Still isn’t louder than the Honda Civic down the street.
beat me to it, bastard.
Hahah yeah
25th like!
I used to hate the sound. But the older I get the more I kind of miss it. At least around me fart cans are a thing of the past.
Yea, sorry about that, my exhaust needs some work I'll admit
“The racetrack was there before the houses”
Perfectly said
If you move next to a race track you should expect it to be loud
Fair enough, but why do we have to have loud cars on regular streets as well? same with motorcycles and my goodness why would you make an electric car as loud as a gas powered car? The noise is just a pain at this point....There's other ways to show power and performance without all the noise, calling it noise pollution is dumb, but i get where they're coming from.
Happened to kcir. It got shut down after someone bought the land next to and complained constantly. Now Street racing is up 400 %
Most retarded thing I've ever heard. "Omg, it's always so loud where I live!" YOU LIVE NEAR A DAMN TRACK TF YOU MEAN?! 😂😂😂
@@MrJustek it’s not (mostly) cars trying to be loud, it’s that with a less restrictive exhaust, the decibel level goes up as a byproduct of not having as much restriction in the way
Same way as if you talk at a wall the person on the other side can’t hear you as well
But without the wall, the communication is more efficient
It’s not about who has the loudest car, it’s about who has the less restrictive exhaust, it’s a byproduct, not an intent
@@MrJustek Motorcycles actually have fairly restrictive noise regulations from the factory. Blame the straight piped Harley bros who seem to think that obnoxiously loud exhaust makes them more noticeable but still wear black leather because safety only matters if they can use it as an excuse to be stupid.
for a while I welded mufflers at a shop that also had a 1000hp dyno, and my welding station was just a few feet from the door to the dyno room. So I heard a lot of crazy loud cars, sometimes I'd be welding and hear some insane dyno pull and go take a peak through the door to see what car was doing it. Fun times
I used to be a wall cleaner in an adult entertainment night club, I’d also hear lots of strange sounds and peak through doors.

Donut boys rollin' a GT4RS made my day. I know it probably doesn't fit the demo for the channel but I would kill to watch Zack and the guys tackle an air cooled Pcar project at some point.
Yeah that gt4rs is easily a $250-300k car in today’s market. Best sounding current production car IMO
The sound of that electric daytona demon actually made me laugh out loud
Sounds like an engine from a bad PS1 video game, it's like the engineer heard a car once in 73" and reproduced it from memory on a nokia 3210 on .midi
its actually cringe
What you don’t want to drive an oversized vacuum down the road?
Its basically on brand for Dodge because people that drive those are insecure attention seekers. lol
Dumbest shit I think I’ve ever heard. Cant believe multiple teams of people had to clear that for production 😂😂😂🤮
Something they didn’t mention is that decibels are logarithmic, meaning 95 decibels is actually over 3X louder than 90.
I definitely thought their graph would have been much more impressive if they should the actual difference between the cars
Didn’t know that. That’s dope
Depends on the decibal scale used. There is 4. Most common scale is 10percent louder per decibal. So likely that 5 decibals is about 50 percent louder. So every time 10 decibals is 10x louder
@@austinhardy1234 I don't think your math is mathing dude. If 5 decibels louder is 50% louder, then 10 decibels is 100% louder, i.e 2x as loud as the original value.
@@aaronvector4750yeah that’s what I’ve heard, every 10 decibels the sounds is twice as loud
I’ll never forget Clarksons review of it, and his comment “when I put my foot down to over take I genuinely thought the engine had exploded” is just great
Honestly, I think more car makers need to start listing "too loud for California Highway patrol" as a sort of badge of honor on their spec sheet. Can't speak for everyone, but I know if I was shopping for a high-end car and saw that on the sticker, I'd want it.
Gotta give a thumbs up whenever the sponsor segment has a progress bar
Let's you know when to stop skipping
Did you guys see like 3 new vid names???
@@THE_Game_Mental That's pretty normal. Pretty much all of these big content channels will have multiple titles and they'll try them out within the first few hours of release and see how they affect their analytics.
@@THE_Game_Mental I seen the original one and I opened it on a diff tab and came back today and it was different and I was so confused
Progress bar should be mandatory on all sponsored segments on all YT videos.
10:50 I'm sorry guys, but a Senna Spider is not a real thing
Right? Scrolling through the comments now to see who else noticed it...
I thought so, I was super confused bc ik it was a track car 1st and foremost; and the P1 spider is by Lanzante
Also Lamborghini huracan performante is all wheel drive not rear wheel drive
@@kchitijaryan5955 I think they are referring to the STO. Definitely not the best researched video they've done..
@@NotShortShiftingI agree and I was assuming that the gt500 would be in place. Same with the SVJ and much more. Kinda meh with the list once again
I’m surprised that the Jag F-Type R isn’t on the list, or the F-150 Raptor S. I’ve had both in my shop and they’re pretty freakin loud.
Donut: "Let's get some exhaust sounds and compare them"
Also Donut: "Let's hold the mic one foot away from the exhaust pipe and have the audio clipping so badly they all sound terrible"
And the director holding the Mic looking like Scotty Kilmer. Lol!
I can't lie it was so painful watching Justin read that script 😅
Yeah that ad was terrible
I loved it😂
Maybe it was their secret way to get people to skip past it because they accepted Draft Kings dirty gambling money but also don't want people to fall victim to it. Even at the very end for a split second there is a notice about gambling addiction.
lmao justin is the best
It was such thinly veiled way of saying “fuck these sponsors” it’s perfect
y’all forgot to add my neighbors lawnmower at 6:27am on a saturday
🤣
Too true 😂
For a little context, decibels are logarithmic, a 3db increase represents roughly a doubling of the volume.
You guys listed the 2GR-fe in the Lotus as “flat plane crank” I didn’t know that was possible in a v6
header length arguably also makes a big difference in sound
Not just length, girth. Just ask the ladies. 😉
Yeah, I learned that the hard way when I installed a downpipe on my 335i and thought something didnt sound right. Turns out its the uneven header lengths.
@@redbarchetta8782the bigger it is, the louder they get 😏
put weapon r tri Y equal lengths on my 2.0 Sentra and it sounds great! yonaka res and muffler still but headers unlocked a great rumble and a charred bumper.
@@user-yy4ux9zf4runeven header(s) as in plural? On a inline 6? Okay
Nothing is louder than the silence of no Up To Speed videos
Bingo

@@alexpryce555 nah he was annoying as fuck, too much shouting and cringe
At this point, I'll never expect Up to Speed and Wheelhouse back for a long long time sad to say
They did up to speed on everything there is
The flat-plane Mustang has an exhaust that makes it sound less flat-plane and more like a regular mustang. Ends up sounding pretty cool though, with instant revs.
"That guy at 3am next to my apartment is feeling alot of emotions all the time, i hope hes alright" 😂😂😂
20 years ago, I was inside the Porsche Weissach Design and test track stuff, and was in the room where they create, tune, call-it-what-you-want - the exhaust sound. looks like a quite big sound studio with an engine on a podium in the middle of the room - with one of many exhaust configurations... these guys are rather musicians than engineers... crazy shit.............. it was the time Haarm Lagaay as head of the porsche design dept. nice guy.
the color grading and the blue tone in this video look fantastic
Day 396 of asking James to do an Up to Speed on his Dad
Haha ur still going
The loudest noise I've heard was when they were doing an afterburner test on the F-15, even with two sets of hearing protection the ground shook and you felt it in your bones. Next would have been a top-fuel dragster or funny car especially when the grandstands were built on dirt I also enjoyed IMSA racing at VIR where I tend to be on the exit of the Oak Tree turn.
B-1 Lancer has 4 F-15 engines and will make the earth around you feel like it’s coming apart as it screams by at a devastating 140db at full burner. Quite the sight (and sound) to behold.
Cant be outmatched by that one GSX-1000R running down the street, popping a wheelie... At 3 AM
Or the Harley you can hear from the next county. That's why Harley's electric bike is a failure, it doesn't have 1000 watts of speakers to go blub-blub blat-blat.
I've heard people say the 2nd gen Firebird Trans Am (1970-81) with the 400, 403, or 455 Super Duty was made specifically to be the loudest muscle car on the market. Not sure if it was the loudest production car from the factory at the time, but it was up there at the top. My 1978 Trans Am is completely stock and its loud as hell
When Pontiac went to make that generation of trans am, they specifically wanted it to be THE most cartoonishly aggressive version of a muscle car the world had ever seen, so i’d fully believe that those firebirds are screamers
Shout out to the modifued camaro at Le man's, it was the loudest of evry single car entry there 🦅🦅🦅
Pagani Zonda R:
"Am I a joke to you"
I knew a lot of this but I really enjoyed the additional explanation. Would be great to break down a lot of the regulations that have changed industry. Especially diesels that transitioned through the tiers to where we are today, maybe sprinklin in how the motors over came those restrictions to make more power.
The Evora GT is one helluva fun car; and all of that sound is not only right behind the ears, but it can be heard pretty darn well on the outside of the car.
Is it flat plane crank like they said?
@@ryanpuryear Flat plane v6? Seriously doubt it.
@@ForgetSnow I know…but they said that on the video.
It definitely is not.
@@ryanpuryear This video was the first I've ever heard of a flatplane V6.
Worth mentioning that piston size and length of stroke also play a huge part in the noise an engine makes
"The Leafblower is our State Bird." 😂😂 idk why that was so funny.
Need a repeat of worst food to eat while driving again. Hilarious episode.
Thank you for pointing that one out to me 🙂
Shout out to the production team on this one, the video looks crisp and the editing is on point. It seems you experimented a bit on this one and it looks and sounds great 😃
Since when did Lotus Evora GT have a flat plane crank? I thought it is a Toyota 2GR-FE
It doesn't have a flat plane crank, I don't know where they get their info from 🤦🏼♂️🤣
As an owner of a GT350 on Long tube headers and borla ataks, I can confirm my neighbors think I'm just a ray of sunshine
my guy forgot the insane valkyrie
can’t forget the escalade v, it’s definitely up there in terms of loudest current production cars
85 decibels. Doesn't even make the list 😂
@@btuttle8thats inside the cabin bro
@@btuttle8 How is it even measured, interior sound when full throttle, exterior sound when doing a flyby at full throttle? They should at least say how they are measuring those cars. Because if i'd rev my CL63 in Stationary thats 123.6 dB max and meaning its louder than ANY car in this list. And i can't believe that.
@@DarkSession6208 Not sure. Can only assume they all do it the same in which case it doesn't make the list.
Hate to be that debby downer, but the Camry V6 sourced for the Evora is not flat plane, as no one has ever built a flat plane crank V6, ever.
❤❤
That new Dodge sounds like a kids toy that had sound 💀
The new Raptor has 4 exhaust modes, quiet, normal, sport, and race”Baja” it’s a cool setup using two large 3” tailpipes and one smaller 2 3/4” pipe for the quiet mode (which is still not quiet)
Who else noticed they incorrectly said a v6 can have a flat plane crankshaft?
That’s impossible, wtf donut?🤷♂️
mclaren senna spider... haven't heard of that one before lol
I literally get chills when the beautiful sounds come
The loudest sound is still either starting up your car in the morning and hearing that someone stole your cat or the sound of an exhaust header bolt snapping.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is driving heaven. Not just the way it accelerates and corners but the sound. Add the sound of air whooshing by your ear into the glorious engine right behind you, barely shielded and it makes a recipe for a really special car. This is how a car should go out before being replaced by an electric version. With a good old bang.
The Pagani Zonda R can go to 117 decibels.
It is therefore banned from some tracks.
I remember that Top Gear video where they reviewed a Zonda R, and Clarkson (I believe) commented it was the most expensive car in the world as you have to buy a car AND the circuit to drive it on.
Same with the legendary Mazda 787b. 117 decibels.
@@rogehmarbi Yeah, I watched it as well. He noted that the cheapest circuit is worth 6 Billion.
Now that's a lot of money for being able to drive your car without limits.
Not just some tracks, all tracks because it’s so loud. It’s joked as being a multimillion dollar paperweight.
For the record: this difference in dB doesn't seem that much, but decibels aren't a linear scale, so every +3dB is almost twice the power
no matter how loud those cars, nothing surpasses the HEAVENLY v10 noises the LFA makes 😇
I'm surprised they didn't talk about the Pagani Zonda R. It was even too loud for Jeremy Clarkson
Not a production car
This was posted within seconds of Tom Scotts video on why adverts are loud, and decibels aren't what really matter when perceiving loudness.
🤓
I have a '16 F-Type R. Shits loud. Great Sound. Love It. Cool feature is being able to open the exhaust for the sound while keeping in in standard driving mode.
The performance car farts took me tf out ☠️ 😂😂😂😂
I really appreciate seeing when hosts like Nolan get passionate about what theyre talking about. It really shows!
I'd really like to know your source for this Lotus flat-plane crank v6.
I know, that’s insane and impossible, to think that a large channel would have its sources right
I love it when these 2 do videos together
The guys steady stalking the car at 7:30 😂
Love the lime green 4Runner camera truck🤘
F Type with the v8 is the one of best sounding v8s from the factory at that price point
No one can convince me there’s a better sounding car. That POP POP POP when you let off the gas… chills
I always get all warm and tingly when they feature my Evora GT. ❤
While sitting in the ol lazy boy watching this, the wife pepped up and said " None of those cars have anything on your snoring"!!
No such thing as a Senna Spider.
Yeah, wtf was that?
Not only that, they said a v6 can have a flat plane crankshaft, a flat plane crankshaft is only used on v8s and v12s
People also read to realize that if you try to shut down majority of the racetracks, then some people will just move onto the streets (obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone but still).
And if you can't handle the noise, then don't move in that area. Simple. I get it can be annoying at times, but not every person with loud cars is inconsiderate (e.g. ragging their cars at night, etc.)
The VR6 wookie noises are my favorite motor platform
Friends of mine have been pulled over in their 500 abarth's. I've been followed in mine as well. We all have factory stock exhaust. My car is tuned, but it doesn't make it louder. Factory exhaust on US models is straight pipe no muffler after the cat on the turbo down pipe
James looks amazing ! Glad to see it
I gotta say Justin remembering all of that straight thru was pretty epic...And the robot like rap song in the back of his mind really showed...js...
I was waiting for the Lexus LFA, nothing beats that sound.
"What do you drive?"
"A Honda Civic"
"Is it fast?"
"No, but it sounds fast!"
Bring back B2B!!!
Made Monday even better :)
Nothing can beat on loudness over that 4 cylinder down the street at 3am
The new Dodge is an example of how loud is not always good
I love to yell "loud pipes save lives!" when I walk out of an elevator.
Way to be a misanthrope, take the loudness away from town where it's hella annoying at best
@@hobog I thought I had IBS.
you might have missed something like tha Fiat 500 Abarth, that thing comes stock with no mufflers and is EXTREMELY loud from the factory. seen a video of a dude clocking in over 100 db from the back
At the end of the day, absolutely nothing beats a carburated engine in any engine configuration.
The electric dodge sounds like a vacuum cleaner
more videos produced/edited like this!
Yay this just made my monday😊❤
This was a great video idea. Unexpectedly excellent ✌🏼
Definitely happy Donut has become as successful as they have, but I'm starting to think I've outgrown the channel. It seems they've really simplified their content, to the point I'm essentially watching a Vox documentary on Netflix. Most the old series have been killed off (or they're just so few and far between they may as well be), and the ones remaining feel like they're talking to people who's knowledge of cars goes as far as "it has tires".
Also: You didn''t play the GT3RS sound clip.
I agree, it’s like they turned into their followers. Past Gas, Bumper to Bumper, Up to Speed, Wheelhouse, there isn’t much for me here now either when almost every video is just another D-List.
You're not the only one with that feeling. They got big and sold out to some media company. Even Money Pit and classic High-Low felt like shows for car guys where they show us how to install stuff ourselves. The episode they did with the BMW drift car a few weeks ago was just "it was a rally car, now it's a drift car".
I know that Donut needs to make it's ad money, but please, PLEASE never gamble. If you gamble, you have an almost 100% chance of never owning a supercar.
Eh I beg to differ , I won a lot on a scratch off , just need to moderate yourself lol
The thing about gambling is that the house always wins. Same thing for smoking or vaping, that stuff's expensive.
@@bwofficial1776 not unless you're buying it by the lb 😆
Yes@@bwofficial1776, over a lifetime, they always win big. And I'm even more concerned for those who get a small win, as that can "hook" them into the gambling addiction.
@@cormaro1376 I just don't want people to hurt themselves. I'm generalizing, yes, just like the advertisements:) And they sometimes put those silly little "gamble responsibly" at the end of the ads. Responsibly would be to never spend money on the chance to win more. I am not upset at those who gamble, I just don't want to see them continue hurting themselves and their families. All the best to you friend! I want to see you succeed at this life, making it a better world!
“i saw you , you saw me “ i’m dying 😂
That E-dodge sounds like almost every car in Maffia 3 😂😂😂
I need the up to speed show back with James
I really appreciate that this wasn't just a list but actual information and learning involved
if you believe the Senna Spider is a real car and the Performante is RWD. Yeah, we leart stufs.
That's what schools are for NOT CZcams!😂
"A saw that reciprocates. I saw you, you saw me." 😂😂😂😂
“Dodge Challenger Hellcat” *shows a Demon*
My friend got an 89 Toyota pickup that had no exhaust on it, just the manifold. We custom made a side exit straight piped exhaust from pipes laying around and it hit 118 dB when revving. It's easily the loudest V6 I've ever heard, and probably the loudest car I've heard in person.
i'm a Ev fan but.Nothing can beat the harmony of the LFA.
What else would you substitute for fake engine noises?
- Me making Hot Wheels noises like I did when I was 5 since we're pretending
- farts
- your mom
- nothing; go ninja mode
- a flock of geese
- cats in rut fighting
- a balloon deflating
- automatic weapon fire, but only in Detroit
- Dvorak's 9th symphony 4th movement
- coffee slurping to trigger anyone with misophonia
- the light bikes from Tron
- the torture scene from Marathon Man
- Al Pacino shouting "Say hello to my little friend!"
- My name is Enigo Montoya; you killed my father, prepare to die
Feel free to add more.
I’m an engine/exhaust sound nerd, there’s more information about engine sounds than engines themselves, I can teach you how engines work in a day, it would take weeks to teach all the sound science.
Good vid keep up the fun work Also, try to make a american or european car cheap vs expensive
Can we just agree Cali just sucks and isn’t what it used to be 😂 like hey here’s a state where u can go a legit window shop rods and pistons but you can’t really use them because it’s “for race use only”
14:37 Man is mouthing James lines with his hands and lips 🤣😂
Must've been plenty of takes..
The supercharger whine gives me the tingles
The crazy thing is they can force you to replace your exhaust, which can reduce performance, fuel economy and possibly cause engine damage depending on the exhaust
The Jaguar FType SVR exhaust absolutely should be on this list!
How it isn’t makes no sense at all. Imo to best sounding stock V8 of all time
Yeah the list makes no sense. The F-Typ is absurd loud. In Germany every car has its decibel ratings in stationary in its vehicle papers. Means how loud the engine is at lets say 3750 rpm when it revs to 8000 rpm max. So you hold your accelerater in stationary to lets say 3750rpm (the exact rpms at which the car was measured is given in the papers, 90% of the time its between 3750 and 4250,no matter if V6,V8,V12 200 or 600 HP ... most of the time 3750-4250).
You can see that stuff online without even owning the car, so with germanys system you can 100% see how loud a car really is, measuered by the Car Commitee and legislation.
From what i know : (DON'T FORGET ITS MEASURED AT a MUCH lower RPM that the car can rev, for example my RS5 does 84 dB at 4250 rpm, but can rev up all to 8250.
Now some numbers, all cars stock obviously :
C63 AMG W204 Coupe (102 dB)
C63 AMG W205 Pre Facelift no OPF (99 dB+)
Huracan Performance (109 dB)
911 GT3 RS (96 db)
Dodge Challenger Hellcat (96 dB)
Hyundai i30N (109 dB)
E92 M3 (88 dB)
2012 Corvette Z07 (99 dB)
Jaguar F-Type R (98 db)
2019 Mustang GT V8 (93 dB)
2015 BMW M5 (93 - 97dB)
I measured my Lotus Elise at 107.3 dBA (WOT, in-cabin) with a Lotus Stage 2 exhaust on it. Not sure if you count that as factory since the exhaust was dealer-installed.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOW AND THE HOSTS THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A MASTERPIECE
You guys should do one about car audio and how many decibels some of them hit. Like 170db plus! And I am pretty sure that the loudest in the world is above 180db's!
