Do I wait until the fruits are dried and have fallen off then I can grow seedling from that? This will be my first time trying. Thank you so much for the contents. BTW, I bought my first strophytum myriostigma and I love it. it's currently in bloom with yellow flowers. :)

    Melocactus: I saw a melocactus in your collection, and your climate is different from its normal habitat. You shade it during the day but then it doesn’t get the right amount of sunlight. And nights in the fall and spring are cool though not freezing. So how do you adapt your growing conditions for the melocactus?
    BTW I have learned a lot by watching your CZcams channel. Especially cacti flower color and how to pollinate and then grow seeds. Thank you

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety

      Oh! Melocactus is so difficult in my climate. 😖 They lose their roots almost every year when they get too dry in summer or winter. Good thing they recover when the weather gets more comfortable for them. I just repotted that big Melocactus with a cephalium 2 days ago. It lost its roots again! 😟 I’m still learning what it likes and what it doesn’t in my weather.

    • @dougberry51
      @dougberry51 Před 2 lety +1

  • @emmitstewart1921
    @emmitstewart1921 Před 2 lety

    I can understand you not wanting to transplant cacti when they are in bud. I have a parodia chrysacanthion that desperately needs transplanting, but starting in late March, it keeps sending up new buds every time I turn around. It's getting hard to water because there is only about a quarter inch between the plant and the edge of the pot. It seems to be happy, though because it keeps blooming.

  • @aimaFHS

    Ana I have a weird question . How do you keep spiders from making webs on your cactus ? I’m struggling this summer and I don’t know what to do

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety +1

      Spiders are actually good for plants since they eat the pests. But the webs can be annoying. Luckily, they are not a big problem in my yard. We get regular pest control treatment here since out in the desert, scorpions and black widow spiders are plenty. Regular pest control treatment is necessary here.

  • @solarwinds-
    @solarwinds- Před 2 lety +1

    I have a question. I wonder can you graft a cactus to itself? Like if it grows fat, then skinny from too much shade or heat, then grows fat again at the top. Can you cut off the skinny part then graft the fat top to the base...make one fat cactus albeit shorter?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety +1

      I’ve never seen that done but I don’t see any reason why it won’t work. But then again, it is better to just root the top separately then let the bottom part produce more offsets. You get more cactus than just having one weird looking cactus. 😉 Just my opinion.
