  • Please come join me for the unpacking of my plant haul from the Cactus & Succulent Sale and Show in Schweinfurt, Germany - there are some real beauties, bargains, stunners and surprises waiting! The sale was hosted by a local branch of the Deutsche Kakteen Gesellschaft (the German Society for Friends of Cactus & other Succulent Plants) in the Northern Bavarian town of Schweinfurt.
    This is part 2 of the video tour, featuring the unpacking of the plants I managed to get myself at the sale - in case you missed the tour video itself, please watch video part 1 on my channel!
    Enjoy!

      MANY THANKS for your AWESOME comments, Clyde!! Really very happy that you enjoyed so many of these plants, indeed I was so lucky to pick these up, but as I said, it also sometimes pays to be early at these shows! Yeah you picked out my absolute favorites too, the crested E. obesa, the crazy spined Trichocereus chiloensis and the chunky Eulychnia sprialis, haha! And the best thing was indeed, that they are all taking relatively little space, as that is a real issue in my little greenhouse, lol! I would have absolutely loved to take some of the large, old plants on offer, but the only way I could expand is upwards, ...1st and 2nd floor on my greenhouse, haha! Sending you very best cactus greetings from Bavaria, Germany to Morris Park in the Ozarks, USA, hope you are having a super Sunday and enjoy your week ahead! Happy growing!!

    • @jacobsiebert2204
      @jacobsiebert2204 Před rokem +1

      @Cactus Joe If you would expand your greenhouse upwards, I think in a few years we would see you in a "skyscraper-greenhouse", haha! 😂😅😉
      But I think there are way more "worse" "addictions" than collecting plants 🤔😉 Sadly, I know that at some point there is just no space left, so a skyscraping greenhouse would indeed be cool 😅
      You're right, the old ones we saw in Part 1, for example the huge and probably very, very old P. leninghausii und P. magnifica/warasii were absolutely magnificient.
      Understandable that you would have liked to take them with you if you had enough space for them😬

    An absolutely amazing haul, Joe!!! WOW! You have some incredibly unique and beautiful cacti to add to your collection! I really enjoy your close-ups, they are so beautiful and show every tiny detail of your plants. This was a most interesting (and fun) video, but then again, I think that is what you're becoming known for! I cannot get over the price of the cacti that you got, even with the conversion to Canadian funds, they are a real steal! You must be over the moon to add such incredible beauties to your collection! Thanks for sharing, and hopefully you will share a video of some of the repots that you will do as I always find those very interesting and satisfying to watch. It's such a treat to see a new cacti in fresh mix and ready to start the growing season off! Take care Joe, and I'll look forward to your next video! 🌵💚🌵😊🌺🌞🌵

      @Lady Lee thank you so much, I'm really very happy that you enjoyed the plant haul video and I loved your wonderful message, thanks for all your kind words, much appreciated! Yes the prices are not bad, that's mainly because it is a sort of collector-to-collector sale, i.e. no commercial sellers - and folks are simply happy to see their plants move into other good hands who will take care of their plants well! Thanks for your great suggestion, I will certainly record some repotting videos again in the near future. I am thrilled to hear that you are enjoying my videos, thanks for the feedback, and I will continue to do my best to present more hopefully interesting, useful and enjoyable topics going forward! Thanks for your support! Hope you are having a fantastic Friday and wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, take care, best wishes and HAPPY GROWING of course!!🌵🙏💚🌸🌵😊🌞🌵

Those I really loved from the first video. Also that cactus that was the tallest and was around 15 years old has some super scary spines! I thoroughly enjoyed this video and thank you so much for sharing your awesome haul. I hope you have an excellent evening and a Fantastic Friday from Georgia, USA to Bavaria my friend! 🏜

      Hello Jeff! Many thanks for your wonderful feedback, really appreciated as always, and so happy that you enjoyed the video! Haha, I was indeed myself so happy with the plants I managed to get! And yeah, those Eulychnia spiralis cacti are quite something, such weird forms! Normally I have seen them as straight columnar forms, but never before with these combinations of crested and columnar spiralling! Haha, also the Trichocereus chiloensis with it's indeed crazy scarry spines, I have now repotted it and am curious to see how it will do now, with a bit more "foot space", lol! Hope you are having a fantastic Friday too my friend, and also a wonderful weekend ahead, take care, cactus greetings from Bavaria, Germany to Georgia, USA and happy growing!!

      Hey Ana! Yep, my jaw dropped (secretly, haha) too when I managed to get that plant E. obesa cristata off the "all plants for 10 Euros" table, but then again, I know the seller very well and he needed space, and has specialised on cacti, so was quite happy I think to see it move to someone with (hopefully) good hands for it! Yeah, sometimes one just has to be lucky, but it also helps to be at these sales very early, to still find jewels like that! Omg! I feel like I want to fly to Germany just to go shopping for cactus. 😮 Those are so hard to find here and if I do, they are super expensive. What a great haul, Joe. I’m really so jealous how those are readily available there at a great price.

    • @cactusjoe
      @cactusjoe  Před rokem +1

      THANK YOU, Ana!! Yes we are quite lucky here, that there are quite a lot of amateur cactus & other succulent plant growers and hobbyists here who grow lot's of seedlings and also propagate quite sucessfully - and there is a thriving community of hobby growers who also like to trade, swap and sell their plants among like-minded folks, so like passing on plants to other growers, so that they can see their plants be passed on to other "safe hands" so to speak. The local branches of the German Cactus Society are often quite active in that sense and also like to promote the hobby to new enthusiasts! Obviously, there is also quite a long history and tradition of cactus enthusiasts, horticulturalists and botanists in the country, which also helps! Thanks so much for watching and also for your awesome comments, hope you are having an awesome Sunday, and also have a great week ahead!

    FYI that trichodiadema densum AKA miniature desert rose gets a wonderful caudex after a few years.

      Thanks so much, Dave, it is indeed such a wonderful plant, I simply love it, and indeed it starts developing such a beautiful caudex - I used to have one before, which indeed had a nicely developed caudex, however unfortunately no longer have it. Which is indeed why I decided to get myself a new one now...and with a bit of patience and TLC hopefully it will be a caudex-bearing plant again! Sounds like you are growing this plant (or several of them?) too, which is brilliant! Thanks so much for watching and for your awesome comment, appreciated!

      @@cactusjoe yes, I have 2 of them. One is a small offshoot from my original. Exposing the caudex gives it a bonsai appearance. 🌳

      @@cactusjoe I just bought another trichodiadema densum at the Lowe's hardware store here. When I repotted it, I discovered it was 2 plants. ❤️🌵😊👍

      Hi Anders, wow, yeah T. jauernigii is a real beauty! Indeed they have become relatively pricey (as they are small but have wonderful flowers) but sometimes they are offered for relatively ok prices on eBay, worth looking out for. Or, raising from seed. Good luck with the other three Turbinicarpus, hope they flower for you very soon!

    Turbini are native to where? Thanks from Alberta

    • @cactusjoe
      @cactusjoe  Před rokem

      Hi Duncan, they are all from the northeastern regions of Mexico and quite like a very well draining, mineral rich substrate with a little bit of limestone chips added. Thanks for watching, hope you are having a great day and sending you cactus greetings to Alberta!👍🙏😊🌵🌵🏵🌺🌼💚😎

    Go small? Lol that is what i do i go smallest or just a cutting but sadly stuff grows and 100 small cacti and succulents that just had a year to grow means i need more space and i have no evin started setting seeds yet but no more room

    • @cactusjoe
      @cactusjoe  Před rokem

      Hey Anders! Haha, yes I totally know the feeling, but that's why I wanted to at least start relatively small, knowing that many of these plants will grow quite quickly, BUT somehow space just does not! Yes, when seedlings are added to the mix, it simply means that our greenhosues need to be expanded upwards or downwards (...unless you have more space sideways, ...which I simply do not, unless I build out onto the road, haha). Enjoy the cacti as they are, carpe diem! Have a great Friday and weekend ahead my friend, happy growing!
