- May 29th marked the two year anniversary of Cookie's Cacti on CZcams. And what better way to celebrate than to share the 2024 Central Arizona Cactus & Succulent Society Show & Sale with you all. This is my longest video to date beating out last year's show and sale video by just over a minute LOL! This video follows the entire experience of being a plant exhibitor from plant drop-off day, to seeing the show, and then returning on the last day to pick up the plants at the show's closing. I hope you enjoy the journey! I had a blast. (I also hope you don't mind over an hour of sentences that end in question marks as I attempt to read hundreds of plant labels.)

This year's show and sale occurred in late May due to venue availability at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. It has already reached 100F degree highs which is why the entire show AND sale is indoors this year - for the safety of all participants. Since indoor space is limited, the DBG was the sole plant vendor. Next year the show will take place in late March, so we will be back to our usual program of multiple vendors outdoors.

No, we don’t. 😔 The society discontinued when COVID started and it never reorganized.

I extremely upset with myself for not going to this event 😠. Thanks to you I at least get a glimpse into what its like Thank you for doing what you do. BTW AZ cactus sales has a huge retusus for sale if u haven't been in awhile. I was there yesterday, it's pricy but Ty told me he was willing to work a deal for it in case u are interested.

@@cookiescacti I live in San Antonio so I drive to Austin for the “Cactus Market ATX” and Austin Cactus society sales. Both are great but we do not have shows like this.

There’s gonna be a show and sell here in Chicago next month and I want to go but it’s pretty far. Maybe I’ll do the 2 hour train ride or pay for the expensive Uber lol. Also the pot at 13:45 looks like a dinasour head 🦖.

Thank you, James! It's so much fun to participate and then see everyone's plants sometimes without knowing what I'm looking at. It's crazy how the Phoenix show is small compared to Intercity in LA. We're all just lucky to have a show at all!
I can relate. The San Jose CSSA has a 10000sf show and sale, but our show part is small compared to your show! I would love to go to the LA show!😂🐈⬛🌵

Mammillaria tetrancistra?! Another Mojave species overlooked in cultivation. I tried to grow some last year but none of the seedlings made it. Can't find another source of seeds this year.

This was SO interesting, I live in Alberta Canada, and we really hardly see any of these cactus and succulents. Everything in the show was so beautiful. Congratulation, on your winnings. You did well. We get very few cactus or succulents in the Stores here, especially any that are as interesting as the one's you filmed. So if I want anything interesting I have to order on-line, Which I have done too much of lately. LOL Thank you so much for the video, I enjoyed it so much. I have almost totally gone into some cactus and a lot of succulents. I'm afraid I just do not like or have room for the large plants, but I sure loved some of the ones you filmed. Again. Thank You. From Alberta, Canada. Quick Question, --Do cactus HAVE to be in terra cotta pot's for just Growing at home?
I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing the show, Kathy! It's such an honor to be able to share it with you all, especially with all us folks who share the same love for cactus and succulents.
With regards to terra cotta pots, it is not required but it can make watering a bit more forgiving since it dries out faster. If you use pots that are glazed or made with a material that doesn't breath, you may need to be more mindful of watering and how fast or slow the soil dries out but it is doable.
Btw, isn't it great that we live in the age of the internet, where plant shopping is right at our fingertips (which may or may not be good for our wallets 😂)

Boojum is a tree in the ocotillo family, Fouquieria columnaris. I love it and yell the name at it every time I see one 😂

I'm currently waiting for July to pay my dues to join the CACSS 😁. How do people enter the show? What are the qualifications?
Only qualification is to be a member of the CACSS or the Tucson cactus and succulent society. Then you just register your name for an exhibitor number and fill out some labels and that's about it! I have a couple of videos that touch on the topic and mention some of the rules.

What are the little white cups for?
It's for attendees to vote for their favorite plant to award people's choice. Each attendee is given a bean upon entering the show and you put the bean in the cup of your favorite plant.
