    Oh WOWSERS GALORE Ana :-D what a MAGNIFICENT update of all of your AMAZING collection, and Hans and I watched this together last night and we were in our element watching all of your beautiful collection, we loved part one and two, the cactus at 2:38 is a Cleistocactus winterii Cristata 'Golden Rat's Tail cristata' I have one of these and they are amazing with their wavy gold appearance, mine has not flowered yet but I think the flowers will be like the Golden rats tail with the orange blooms, your Cactus garden is so gorgeous too and we LOVE your pink opuntia 'Santa rita' and WOW at the HUGE Opuntias, such a wonderful update Ana and thanks so much for sharing, and Hans and I are sending you an abundance of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a fantastic weekend ahead XXXX

    Super enjoyed the tour, Ana. I have a bit of a better luck when it comes to Astrophytums. I learned they actually appreciate more frequent watering especially when they have buds. I water mine every 5 days and my humidity level here doesn’t go below 60%. Some of my myriostigmas are even outside my balcony receiving rain and sun almost all day. I have more of them in my collection. I am however, jealous of your Rainbow Hedgehogs! 😍 They’re awesome but they prefer arid conditions which I don’t have so i have killed some. 🤣 Thank you for the tour. Ingat lagi. ❤️🌵🙏🥰😍❤️

    • @Cactimania
      @Cactimania Před 4 lety +2

      Great tour Ana, as Edith said Astros seem to prefer more frequent waterings. I’ve noticed with mine, especially the asterias, is they don’t like hot direct sunlight all day. Mine only get about 4 hours of direct sunlight and that seems to be enough for them. Enjoyed the complete tour Ana. From Edith & myself, have a wonderful day 😊🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜☕️

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 4 lety +2

      I watched a Filipino CZcams channel where the astro grower/collector keeps his astros in a tray with water 24/7! It’s like an aquaphonics setup. He turned his astrophytum into a semi-aquatic plant! Yes, I think astrophytum likes more humidity and temperate climate.

  • @jondowson7563
    @jondowson7563 Před 4 lety +3

    Hi Anna,
    Recently discovered your channel during the Coronavirus lockdown, it's given me quite a lot of inspiration. I live in the south of England and we're also having a bit of a drought/heatwave at the same time- sunniest May on record! So my collection has been outside for the past 3 months and doing really well from it, many previously dull specimens (Gymnocalycium, Astrophytum) have now developed more vivid hues, and flower buds are appearing on many more of my plants.
    I forget which plant of yours you mentioned had flowered but produced no seeds- perhaps in Las Vegas away from its indigenous environment it lacks a necessary pollinator. Perhaps you could do the work of an insect with a paint brush and dab some pollen around? (I've had to do something similar in the past with squash plants to get the fruit to set)
    How did you get the name for your channel- are cactus and coffee 2 of your favourite things?
    Keep up the good work,
    Jon.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 4 lety

      Hello Jon! I am glad that you are liking my videos (so far). 😉 That is great that your weather is benefiting your plants. I hand pollinate many of my cacti but my ferocactus latispinus produces empty seed pods. Maybe because I only have one plant of it and I have no other ferocactus blooming yet to cross-pollinate it with. And yes, cactus and coffee are my 2 favorite things. 😃🌵☕️

  • @Heendhendry
    @Heendhendry Před 2 lety +3

    Hi, Love your videos, and garden. I am actually calling you my Cacti Guru to all my mates.
    Anyway, I have recently got myself an Astrophytum and did a little research on how to care for them. and I saw your Astrophytum collection, and you said it's not growing so well. Its just I am wondering, for the Astrophytum Capricorne the problem might be the water and the soil? it seems like they are on the alkaline side, so it's better to water them with tap water that contains higher ph rather than rainwater? I saw in your other video, that you are using normal water and add vinegar to lower the ph to make it more acidic to mimic rainwater.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Cheers!

    beautiful collection! Can you keep your Pilosocereus azureus outside during the winter? mine is getting too big to my terrace 😕

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 4 lety +1

      I keep mine inside the house during winter. We get below freezing temperatures during winter and mine turns purple when it gets very cold. I have not tried leaving them out all winter because once they turn purple, I get scared and move them indoors right away. 😉

      @@CactusCaffeine Ok, thanks. I keep mine in the terrace where the temperature is during winter over 6-7ºC 👍

    Hi, Ana! That's a beautiful collection! Your Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii Friedrichii is growing by itself. Did you get it rooted already? I only could find it on top of the other green cactus. I love the Gymnocalycium mihanovichii friedrichii, but i hate this green stem 😆 do you know if pups from Gymnocalycium itself can be rooted in substrate, instead of putting them on another ugly pole?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 4 lety +1

      Marina Indricane I got mine already rooted. If they have some kind of green color in them, they can grow on their own roots. Also the purple ones can grow on their own. 🙂

    When I was in college (A&M), I used to have a very large Ferocactus Latispinis (like at 20:09). It also formed empty fruit. One of my fellow students told me it's because it's a hybrid. I think he was wrong. I'm waiting for a reply from one of those desert plant society sites.

    How do you keep track of the watering you have so many plants!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 3 lety +1

      That is one reason why I like using all terra cotta pots. All the soil in the pots dry out at the same time so I can water them all on a schedule during summer

    If I send you photo of a cactus I have, could you maybe tell me what the name is? My local Greenhouse could not help me. I’ve watched several videos & never seen any, even not on your collection.

    You ever get black spots on your totem pole. Do you know how to cure it. I think some is caused by damage.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před rokem

      Not on my totem pole but I get it in my other columnar cacti. They are caused by damage or sudden change in temperatures or climate. I usually don’t do anything. They heal by themselves once they are acclimated.

    Where r u buying your cactus? Star nursery don’t have any ID for the cactus.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 4 lety

      Many of them were from Star Nursery since they are the closest to me. But I go online to find their IDs or sometimes, viewers here or from Instagram are very good at giving me their IDs. 😉 Then some of them I bought from California nurseries or online (planetdesert.com). 🌵☕️
