    Lovely update on your plants, enjoyed the tour...I also group pots together to make them fit better and also the light needs of each 😉👍🙂 I have got a little group of Echinopsis together though for now 😆 WOW WOW WOW that really tall Cleistocactus species at the end is stunning...those lighter pink flowers look like the flowers on my Cleistocactus Rat Tail cactus! But the stems as you say are really columnar so I know its not like mine (which is hanging) but the flowers look similar 😊 the pink and the purple pollen, but those darker pink flowers are beautiful on the other stem, so lovely to have a different coloured flowered cactus too in same pot...and amazing growth in a year, I think they would do fantastically in the ground too, will be great to see the fruits developing, I hope you can do an update on this beautiful cactus, thanks for showing this Ana👍🌟🌞🌟🌞🌟🌞🌟🌞😊🌵

    This was a very entertaining video, Ana!🤩 I enjoyed a lot the tour around your backyard and talking about all the plants, seeing your non Cactaceae,and everything. The blooming ones were amazing🌺👏👏👏💕.Could I suggest you to try cutting the sunburned cacti (just one of them), those that you told that you think they're going to die? Maybe if you cut the vertical growth and give a low phosphorus and potasium fertilizer, they concentrate their strenght at the roots and growing various new stems or pups, not blooming... (It's just a thought I've had...)😁. Lots of love from Spain to Las Vegas!💞🌵☮️🌺🤗.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 3 lety +1

      This is a very good suggestion. Thank you. 😃 But in the meantime, I would like to share some tips that I do for your immediate needs. 😉 Be very gentle transitioning them in different locations. They do not take rapid big changes very well. But once they are adjusted, they will thrive. During our summer, my haworthias are in bright shade only. No direct sunlight as they will burn with our extreme heat. Once acclimated, I find them to be resilient to excessive heat. They will go dormant though. But they cannot withstand temperature in the 40’s and below.

    Hi! I have just discovered your channel and I am just overwhelmed by the wealth of beautiful plants and helpful information. Thank you so very much for sharing this with the world! It is amazing. I have a question about dormancy - I keep reading about summer dormancy vs. winter dormancy but it's confusing to try to separate all the plants that should go winter dormant and those that should go summer dormant. We are about to hit 118 degrees here (Phoenix) and most of the non-cactus plants will go dormant, so I won't feed them for a few months. What about the cacti? Do yours go dormant in the summer?
    Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge and beautiful collection!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 3 lety

      Oh 118F is too hot. 🥵 Some of my cacti go dormant in summer when it is too hot and dry for a long time. They don’t grow or do anything. I try not to get their roots too wet because when dormant, their roots will take in very little water. If you give them too much water, they will rot. Good luck!

      @@CactusCaffeine Thank you so much for the quick reply! Yes it's really awful when it gets that hot. I've moved all the potted cacti under a shade cloth and will monitor them closely. For all the poor cacti that are planted in the garden, they will have to tough it out yet again. Some of them like it - the fishhook barrels are flowering! But I definitely won't water a lot until it cools down. Thank you again!!

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 3 lety +1

      Aloe Vera is very hardy and a forgiving plant. It will take any soil as long as you do not water it often. 🙂 The rocks that I have are top dressing only. Kasi yung cactus soil na gamit ko is very light. When I water it, the soil floats and spills. So the top dressing keeps the soil down. Also for decoration. 😃

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 3 lety

      Pots depends on preference. They will grow in whatever pot you like as long as given appropriate care. I chose terra pots because I needed something heavier to sustain the very high winds that we get here. Also plastic pots become brittle or even melt when exposed to the brutal sun that we get during summer. Also with terracotta, the soil will dry faster so less risk of root rot. On the downside, I have to water more often during the summer. 🙂

    Hi Ana, can you tell me what system you use in your green house to tell you when the temperature is too cold? What manufacturer & model?
    I’m spending hours trying to find one that will alert you when the app is not open. All of them I’ve found do not alert you until you open the app in your phone. Thanks so much!

      Oh mine just have a sensor and a display screen inside the house. It is not on wifi and does not send any alert. I discussed and showed the thermometer that I used in a video I made last winter. czcams.com/video/QkWHqq28UXs/video.html

    Dear Ana :
    I don't pretend to be some cactus expert ..... However I am a plant enthusiast and at around 11:20 you showed the poor guy's you saved from the fake flowers.....I just wanted to say thank you for doing that....PS...I don't mean to offend anyone who happens to like those things.... it's just me...it messes with me for some reason..... anyways thanks.....PS PS ....How did you take them off?

      I heated up a thin nail and slowly melted the glue. 🙂

    I found a rainbow hedgehog but it was not for a good price and it had one of those stupid plastic flowers jammed into it. You're right they are hard to find so i bought it even tho it was costly. Home Depot does this on ALL of their cactus. The stab each cactus with on of those idiotic pieces of plastic. I told them it damages the plants and they didn't care. But they are the only ones in my area who sells cactus. So each cactus I get are damaged AND they are PRICEY!.

    Please stop using plastic straws, they are bad for the environment. Thank you.
