Thank you! This is exactly what I needed! I have a reconstructed ACL/Meniscus in my right knee. I could never seem to get an effective glute stretch because of the extreme knee pain I experienced when doing the pigeon pose and other similar stretches. That little change with the ankles did the trick, and I was finally able to really crank on those glutes in a way I have never been able to before. I feel great!

thank you so much for sharing this! I wasn't having any trouble with pigeon pose until I added weight training for lower body, now my knee kills in that pose.

hey all just wanted to share a pigeon tip that is fairly challenging at first but can help align your knees so that the pose targets your hips and not the knee joint. Please share with friend, yoga teachers, students etc!

Yes, I've discovered by myself that dorsiflexion helps in these external hip rotation poses (also in lotus). I wish I had watched this video a couple years ago instead of hurting myself back then. Somehow my natural instinct was to plantar flex, probably to make the pose look deeper. Today I'd say if you can't enter lotus dorsiflexed, you shouldn't be attempting it at all.

Thank you. I don't have knee issues and I love this pose, but as a teacher I wanted to see how to help those who do have knee issues. However, I find that I cannot point my foot and flex my toes while in this pose. My big toe is fused and doesn't bend back. Is this a common problem? And what can I do to modify?
