    Thanks very much for making this accessible - so few of the standard yoga videos are designed for true beginners - great suggestions - fwiw, I also have had some success increasing hip external rotation by crossing my leg from a sitting position (ankle on knee of opposite leg) and putting gentle pressure on the knee to open the hips externally - thx vm for the video -

    Been going to physio for a month now with knee and ankle issues. Have lots of cramps in my lower hamstring. I was convinced the pain was there but my physiotherapist was interested in my hip area. Turns out I was super tight. He suggested a pigeon stretch which I've been failing miserably at. Have literally zero flexibility in my hips it turns out! 12hrs a day in a bad office chair for 5 years will do that to you. Thanks for the 90/90 suggestion. Still feeling a fair amount of stretching and aching but hoping I can progress. Thanks for this video!

    Question for people who also experience(d) this. My hips are terribly stiff so I was glad to find out there is a 90-90 modified pigeon pose. However, the front leg will make me lean heavily to its side, away from the ankle. I need to put my hand down and push my upper body to my ankle to feel a good stretch. In the video he suggests to lean on both hands lightly, but for me there is no reason to put two hands on the floor. If I were to have my right leg in front, I'd have to put my right hand on the floor to push my upper body towards my ankle and vice versa. Is this the way to go at it, or do I need to do other hip stretches first to loosen them up a bit to be able to do a 90-90 pigeon?

    • @Strengthside
      @Strengthside  Před 6 lety

      Jayden Bueno having to lean is normal if you are stiff. Don’t over think it too much. If you had great range and could get your chest to your ankle then there would be no need to do the stretch.

      Sit down on a chair or bed. With your feet flat on the floor, cross 1 leg over the top of the other leg & lean forward until you feel the stretch. Remember to breathe! As you progress, you’ll find that as you exhale, you’ll be able to lean forward a little more until your hands almost touch the floor. Hope this helps you & good luck. 🤙🏿

    • @lyaworski333
      @lyaworski333 Před 6 lety

      Shane O' Driscoll Foam rolling is great for tightness after hypertrophy training or heavy load sessions lifting.
      Performing active stretches like this one is a must for mobility, strength, and overall performance. You should always spend 15 mins before/after finding tight spots to relax by contracting and releasing with breathing into the stretch.

    • @shaneodriscoll4232
      @shaneodriscoll4232 Před 6 lety

      Lewis Yaworski well you don't want to be doing this stretch if you have Anterior pelvic tilt and a bad back. Stretching will further weaken the already weak glutes

  • @ceciliacorina
    @ceciliacorina Před 3 lety

    I haven’t been able to do pigeon for years. It’s extremely frustrating that my body won’t do what I want it to do...then because my glutes are tight my lower back is tight and in pain all the time, and it just literally feels like it’s locked. I’m really hoping this technique works. I’m almost considering taking a flexibility class because this is so frustrating. Anyone else experience this but have them been able to do it?
