CoFA is the most underrated book in the series I hope you enjoy it
Covenfan1234 it really is. I think it deserves better but anyways.
I just started city of bones yesterday because of her
DragonFly444 yay. Have fun reading.
Impressive
I just borrowed City of Bones from my friend, about to start my journey...
Hows your journey
I actually read the infernal devices first before TMI. And it worked out the best for me.
I like that way because that is how it is historically. And you get how the Institute is protected in City of Heavenly Fire. There are little references like that throughout the series. When I first read her books, Dark Artifices wasn't out yet so, I haven't read that series but I am excited to start it!
I read tid after tmi lol
@@claireadams2503 the dark artifices is so perfect in my opinion jsjsj
Hey I olnly want to comment that I love Will Herondale 😂❤
omg will is amazing😍😍
The best comment
Lol! Who doesn’t 💁🏾♀️❤️😂
I do not blame you. Will Herondale is an incredible character. Really I just love all Herondales
Dorothy Wild And that’s on PERIODT
that background setup!! must have taken you an age
I read all of TMI without knowing how many connections it had with TID but then I waited a year or 2 before reading TID and forgot about some of the stuff in the TMI epilogue so I was still shocked when I finished it. If this happens to you then immediately reread the CoHF after finishing TID because I did that and I have never cried harder in my life.
Personally, I suggest you to read those books :
City of bones
City of ashes
City of glass
City of fallen angels
City of lost souls
City of heavenly fire
Clockwork angel
Clockwork prince
Clockwork princess
Lady midnight
Lord of shadows
Queen of air and darkness
Chain of gold
And the other ones like ever you want, because Cassie Clare made those books in trilogies, therefor, you’ll follow the story of the characters during your reading.
That is how I read them but I watched this because I wasn't sure when to read the add-on books.
I'm confused after watching this video 😂 ... So i just started reading them ... I started with mortal instruments ... i finished first 3 books : bones , ashes, glass... i want to continue with city of fallen angels . So if i will skip clocwork series i will understand it right?
Because im really interested in jace's and clarie's story .... I really dont care about clockwork series right now .... So it will be clear right???
By the way whats clockwork series about? Will it make big difference to skip them?
@@miram8913 I’d say it’s fine to finish the mortal instruments first but just be warned that if you do plan on reading the infernal devices, city of heavenly fire spoils a major plot point from the ending of the infernal devices. Hope this helps! :)

Are there any references or important things in the bane chronicles? I don't really feel any urge to read it as of now since im still working through the main books. And there aren't really any official reviews of the book by known booktubers.
Wow, you must be very confused 😂
Claire T no, there isn’t anything important in the bane chronicles that relates to the storyline so you don’t have to red it. But, I recommend that you do because there is some really funny warlock moments (especially Ragnor Fell) and some parts relate to Clary’s parents and her backstory. Also, there is some ADORABLE malec moments at the end!
Regan Gregory alright, thank you so much
No words can describe how much I needed this
Love how you can see how passionate you are about it these books! I actually got a healing rune tattooed on me yesterday. Never knew how much this series would become to me after I stumbled onto your channel and started the series

I think I want to reread by Publication Order.
I love the little notes at the end. So important!
Thanks Emma!
Definitely needed this! I started getting very confused recently about all the new releases and this cleared it up for me! I initially read the first 5 books of TMI and then all of TID and then cohf and then continued onto Lady midnight and lord of shadows but before reading qoad I am back tracking and re reading everything plus reading the bane chronicals and tales from the shadowhunter academy for the first time!
thank you so much for this guide! i plan to read the whole shadowhunters chronicles either this year or the next, and your videos have helped a lot!

Watching this again and feeling so happy because it lead me to binge read all these books and fall in love with reading for the first time in my life 🥰

I just bought City of Bones and I see this. YAS I NEEDED THIS
This video is so useful and you have explained everything so clearly and properly. Thank you, Emma ❤
So helpful, thanks Emma! I’ve read most but lost track a little recently so this helped me catch back up with my plan of what’s coming next! ☺️
My experience was to read in publication order, which I am still doing as I’m currently reading Red Scrolls of Magic, and I totally get you with that reference. I read it earlier and was like ooooh 😮😁.
Part of me is desperate for the chronicles to be finished. I’m in desperate need of a reread, especially the earlier books, and I want to do my reread in timeline order. It seems that I will have to wait several more years yet to embark on that journey.
I remember reading all of the mortal instruments first and being so confused in city of heavenly fire with jem and tessa
Jem and Tessa are in City of Heavenly Fire? Why did she say to read the Infernal Devices before the 6th book? I've read both The Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices and am confused.
Claire Adams yeah jem and tessa are in city of heavenly fire that’s why it’s important to read the infernal devices first
@@claireadams2503 Yeah Jem and Tessa were at the party at the end of City of Heavenly. Emma's basically saying read the Infernal Devices first to understand who Jem and Tessa and how they were able to be at the party even though they're from the 1800s
I remember reading this exact comment before starting the Infernal Devices and:
1) I was assumed Jem was girl based on the name and thought he was a girl for the first few sentences of Clockwork Angel and immediately predicted that "she" was going to end up with Will at the end of the series and
2) I was expecting Jem and Tessa to time travel at the end of Clockwork Prince to modern day and appear in City of Heavenly Fire where the two stories basically merge and conclude into one (I was very disappointed this didn't happen but I still love the stories nonetheless)
I have read all of CC canon multiple times and know all of this information- yet I am watching this video. Listening to you talk through this topic which you’re so passionate about is very relaxing and comforting.
I've been wanting to try reading them again (for the 4th time. Clearly I want to like these books) and I just had gone off your old video for the order not too long ago! Thanks for the updated one!!!
I've seen your other video but i still clicked the video 😂
I read TID first and definitely didn't regret it because i had a hard time reading TMI after it. I just prefer TID over TMI 🤷🏻♀️. I'm planning on starting TDA soon 😊
Tda will fill ur heart and make u feel whole, then it will crush your spirit, soul and heart...
Sorry if that sounded morbid. But its the truth. WHY LIE?
@@wx3359 I'm not totally surprised 😂 It's sounds familiar since TID was a punch in the heart. So i guess that what makes us keep reading Cassandra's books?! 😂
I read the first three Mortal Instruments back when it was still a trilogy, and then re-read them before reading the fourth, fifth, and sixth books. Then I read all of TID and went onto TDA much later (I waited until Queen of Air and Darkness was out before I read any of them because I really like marathoning series and felt for some reason felt EXTRA strong on that point with the Shadowhunter books).
Once the Wicked Powers series is out and complete, I plan on making a GIANT chart and reading the entire world in exact chronology..
Because of your channel I’ve finally decided to try out the shadowhunters universe. Came to this video to figure out how to begin.
love your videos!!! watch them all the time

I LOVE SHADOWHUNTERS, despite the profile pic xd
I read TMI, TID, TDA, Shadowhunter Academy, The Bane Chronicles, then Red Scrolls :)
In Germany Queen of air and darkness will be released in four days and ghosts of the shadowmarket will be released in october. That's way to long to wait for reading ghosts of the shadowmarket before queen of air and darkness.
I finished lord of shadows yesterday and even these four days are way to long to wait before I can read on xD
Thanks so much for this video. I've been wanting to read them forever but could NEVER figure out an order to read them in. Thank you for all these recommendations! (and I'm sure it took a lot of time to figure this out, so I, as well as others, I'm sure, really appreciate this updated version)
bless your shadowhunter content, seriously! i love that you continue to talk about these books frequently as someone who‘s just as much of a big fan! :)
i actually also read the first five tmi books for the 1st time over 1-2 years (bc i didn’t want them to be over) and read tid, reread tmi and read cohf and the shadowhunter academy and then the bane chronicles. i‘ve read tda and then read the first 8 gotsm stories. and now i can finally read in publication order 😂 this is so messy but i still got to appreciate so much of the content!
I'm a huge fan of the shadowhunters Chronicles... I read all of TMI first then TID then TDA the the ghost of the shadowhunter market then shadowhunter academy then the last hours... havent read anything pertaining to Magnus yet. I havent got my hand on a copy.. but I would really like to read them over in order of publication

you have no idea how much I needed this today.
I watched your older version of this video last month and I started City of Bones and now im obsessed!! Im nearly finished Clockwork Angel now and I cant wait to read all the other books! 😍😍
I've been shamed for starting with Lady Midnight.. but that wasn't really a choice, I went to the library and picked up a book that sounded interesting, I don't do full on research every time I want to read a book 😂 I wasn't confused at all and really enjoyed my experience. I have now read City of Bones and didn't really like it so I'm glad I found my way into this world through Lady Midnight. I also don't really mind spoilers so that helps. They even enhance my enjoyment occasionally.
lisagna ha😂 interesting.
I didn't like City of Bones either :D I might try to pick up Lady Midnight now though :D
XX xx yea. You can do that, but just Incase if you didn’t know Lady Midnight takes place five years after the event of city of heavenly fire which is the last book of the mortal instruments and city of bones is the first story of TMI. So you might be confused a little bit (world building) and might not get as much references but yea I understand. City of bones was the first book so I didn’t expect greatness from it. It definitely gets better.
Sun kissed_ Melanin O Oh, I didn't know that, thanks for the info :) I was always a bit sad I couldn't get into TMI because everyone else seems to love it, so hopefully i'll like Lady Midnight at least :)
XX xx it’s ok, you don’t have to always like what everyone likes. Hope you like Lady Midnight. It’s really good.
I am literally on city of heavenly fire (loving the series so far
