Periyar was one of the tallest revolutionaries of India. His thoughts on secularism, on Brahmanism surpass any other political leaders of his time. He was enormously popular with the masses.
Periyar's philosophy of self-respect was based on his image of an ideal world and a universally accepted one. His philosophy preaches that human actions should be based on rational thinking. Further, the outcome of the natural instinct of human beings is to examine every object and every action and even nature with a spirit of inquiry, and to refuse to submit to anything irrational as equivalent to slavery. Thus, the philosophy of self-respect taught that human actions should be guided by reason, right and wrong should follow from rational thinking and conclusions drawn from reason should be respected under all circumstances. Freedom means respect to thoughts and actions considered 'right' by human beings on the basis of 'reason'. There is not much difference between 'freedom' and 'self-respect.
Periyar's foremost appeal to people was to develop self-respect. He preached that the Brahmins had monopolised and cheated other communities for decades and deprived them of self-respect. He stated that most Brahmins claimed to belong to a "superior" community with the reserved privilege of being in charge of temples and performing archanas. He felt that they were trying to reassert their control over religion by using their superior caste status to claim the exclusive privilege to touch idols or enter the sanctum sanctorum.

I see his point of view. Christ is very unique and there is no comparison to Him, His words, His works. Christ gives importance to individual freedom, human rights. Dr Pradamrao has right to criticize any religion, I respect that. We should very much study Christian influence and work in the British Raj (Education, Medicine). True Christians believe in liberty, freedom of religion, free speech, equal rights, equal opportunities.
#1. Liberation of oppressed from corrupt officials / politicians is key today. CORRUPTION is killer of jobs/opportunities today. Reservations do not work in the long run. Capitalism and ease of innovation and justice to ALL will help progress.

He just took examples from Hinduism and talking on behalf of all religions. I see William Carey as a reformer. #1. Who created Christ (the God of Christianity) ?
I looked around and gone through texts Quran, Hadiths, Puranas, Egyptian gods, Roman gods, Greek gods, Europe's gods, Arian gods, South American gods, North American gods..etc for the past 15 years.
Show me a God like Jesus Christ and show me 10 commandments given which are so fundamental for the progress of life and nations. Show me a book which is fundamentally teaching equality in Rights | Justice of ALL people. Read Mattew gospel (if you haven't already) and tell me who spoke with such profound wisdome to fishermen(12) and changed the world forever. This is not God created by man but the God who created heavens and earth.
#2. If you want to blame or bundle all religions, that's a serious mistake.
For one obvious reason:- All religions are not same. They are fundamentally different from each other. So, you got to give considerable time to study all those and come to conclusion.
#3. I personally love seperation of religion and govt. Govt should give freedom to citizens to choose whatever they like and should limit taxes and controlling our lives. Only Civil laws like rape/murder/stealing/harm done to others should be dealt by courts and Penal Codes. Other than that CITIZENS should take care of themselves and their personal affairs.

Periyar Ramaswamy - works are Great value for TamilNadu State, Periyar has reformed Tamilnadu and ensured power to all the people based on their percentage of their representation in society, and for that he fought with Congress , Gandhi and Raja Gopala Chary, His argument that Brahmins constitute just 3% occupied 90% of jobs/Positions in Govt and Assembly and just 10 represented by the communities who constitute more than 90% in society has been finally addressed and ensured representation in power according to their representations in society...He has lived for 96 years, and ensure the social reforms during his life in TN. Has Ambedkar lived long, we would seen all the States in India would have become like Tamilnadu...even though am from Telugu state, I salute People of Tamilnadu for following Periyar ideology...Jai Periyar Jai Bheem..
