I have a 1989 Honda Crx HF with over 377,000 miles on the odometer. It has never broken down or been in the shop except for tires. It is a simple car that has been rock solid for thirty five years. How I wish my girl could get this treatment. She deserves. Great job, guys!
Just do it
Your car is worth it and will last another 30 years even though it has miles if it’s rust free and clean it’s worth it
Thanks for your thoughtful reply and encouragement. Yes, it is on the agenda for sure. In the meantime, I keep it well maintained so that it will be worth refurbishing. I have had much nicer cars (this car didn't even come with a cup holder) but not one that I liked better. This car is a big part of my life's journey and that is the context in which it is important to me.@@josephandreuccetti7270
Thank you for your thoughtful and generous reply. Food for thought for sure.@@thatgreencrx7677
大切にしてますね。本田宗一郎も喜ぶでしょう。
Older honda and Toyota should be saved best ling lasting cars ever. 03 camry v6 335k miles I am never selling it.
Nothing more satisfying than seeing a 300+ hour job reduced to 16 mins.
Indeed
This video brought back a lot of memories and a tear to my eyes. My first car was this same year and color. I loved that Si! I bought it for $600 at a wrecking yard, who got it from a police auction for as much. My dad was friends with the wrecking yard owner, and he did me a solid. The police impounded it after the driver wrecked it into a parked car while intoxicated. I fixed up the front end over a summer and had a near perfect car with 69k miles. The interior was perfect! The seats looked new, the floor mats looked new, and the sunroof worked flawlessly. As a senior in high school in 2000, I had a pretty slick ride! Unfortunately, it was involved in an accident during a very bad rainstorm. The back end was crushed, and so was my heart. I would love to find one just like it someday and restore it like this. Thank you for sharing this project!
Man I love the way crx’s look, you should look into get a supplied air respirator it’s a game changer, I just got one and man it’s so nice compared to the ones that you are using
This is my dream resto project! Barbados Yellow Si ftw!!!
That brings back some memories. I had 1990 Barbados yellow Si my senior year in high school and over 20 years later that was still my favorite car.
Another one happy car.And well washed eyes on the streets.Amazing headturner you made Brian. You are a Star .🎉
Masterfully done. So nice to see this classic get the attention she deserves. Thank you. I can't wait to see the final product.
My buddy bought one of these same color, brand new back in the day, car handled like a dream, really hugged the road. His had louvres over the back window
I love these cars. My favorite car I ever had was an 87 CRX hf in blue with a blue interior. It was an amazing car
CRX guys checking in
I like the way you explain the process and why you are doing what you are doing.
Everything about this is so not me or my style but as a car enthusiast I soooo respect and love the heck out of this! Nicely done for sure bud@👍💯
Brian that was a great video. I love how you clearly explain each process. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Love using SEM trim black! I’m a driveway DIY guy so I always use it in aerosol form, but it’s great for everything from bumper trims to side mirrors and even wiper blades. Love what you do and thanks for creating content for everyone from the pros to guys like me 🙌🏻
Yeh me too but I think it also contains silicon so not good when repainting..
I agree , it sprays nice and just works well and reasonable price
LOVE the CRX!!! I’ve got a 1987 1st Gen that needs restored at this point too!
This was lovely to watch, certainly boosted my inspiration.
I am a proud owner of a '89 CRX, but the car is wanting of metal work (doors, rear wells) and paint. Sadly, I have not had the time to work on it for a decade, but I don't think I'll be leaving the car completely alone this coming summer.
It's Rio Red, now pastel yellow. I was thinking of a "faster", more 90s yellow with a a tinge of green in it, but now I'm actually considering going OEM. The conundrum here is that the color doesn't do much for me, personally. A lighter color brings the trims and especially the dominating rear light setup to life. So, OEM or own?
It sounds like I'm asking for an authority to choose for me, but that is the core of the matter, actually. Despite contemplation I can not find myself going OEM (red) just because Honda painted this specimen that color. Sure, I would be ticking a box - a sizable one, given the age of the car - but whose box is it? Ultimately, time will claim the color and the aspirations behind it, so perhaps my will may have it's moment in the passage of time, a breath in the wind among many before, many yet to come.
Didn't sit down to write all this. One thought simply led to another. And no, I didn't spend the last decade plexing about the color. 😀
That turned out so good bruh
the work process is very professional, greetings always success
So beautiful man !!!!
Hands down one of my favorite videos yet. In a huge classic jdm guy and this was you're bliss to watch
Looks AMAZING! I can't wait to get this thing back!
I am so thankful for this video... ON a CRX nonetheless!! THANK YOU!!
Man i had a 91 as my first car when 8 was in high school 96 97 98. That was the best car ive ever had. Never broke down. I remember one time i was driving down the road and my timing belt popped. Normally thats bad for a car but not that one. Man i loved that car
I like the music montages. You do a great job mixing in the music while we get to learn the techniques on the car.
Very impressive. I remember when these cars were new. Fun to drive and great MPG. You used to see them everywhere. I was going to buy a used one, but found a first gen Toyota MR2 instead. Back when they were cheap.
Wow nice 1 day I'd like my 89 s10 to look that good.
Always wanted one of these
Amazing work as usual 😮
Another awesome video reminded me when I had to paint the hood on the 83 Honda Accord but of course it did not come out as good as this CRX but every video you put out is a learning experience, thank you
I always wanna have one of those CRX!!! Amazing job!!!
When people talk about their dream car, they usually talk about Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, Rolls Royce, Austin Martin and many others. My dream car has always been the Honda CRX VTec but that’s quite costly too so I don’t even mind the lesser of the Honda CRX’s, what the shameful thing is I probably will never own one. Most of you are very lucky to own this beautiful, amazing, reliable car.
I had a black CRX Si back in the day...loved that car...traded is off for a 1974 BMW 2002tii...loved that car even more...now i'm old and drive a mint 2002 Buick Park Avenue with a supercharged 3.8L
No Rust! Sunroof Works! Cars perfect
God this car brings back great memories. My sister had one last forever. You guys did an amazing job as always. Enjoy your warm weather in sunny Florida. Merry Christmas and a New Year to you and your beautiful family.
Thanks, you too! Happy new. Ty always for the kind words on your comments.
Wow the car looks phenomenal amazing work !!! Making me wish I still had my 89 crx si in this same Barbados yellow 😢
Channel yang menjadi pedoman saya di bidang body repair terima kasih salam dari indonesia
Fantastic transformation 👏🏽😍
You blew me away on this one NICE NICE!
Amazing work
Those bumpers came out fantastic really offsets nicely. I cant wait to redo my crx like this someday. I spent a week painting it blue when i was a kid. And then two summers ago I stripped it to bare metal and painted it pheonix yellow with a hvlp. Came out good but i want to make it better.
Man i would love my 2001 honda crv to be painted by you guys so professionally done and oem+ good job guys
Watching the whole thing🙏
Thank you!
Nice work and love how you show every step in the process. Look forward to seeing the rest of the process. What based the decision to not use single stage? Does your shop not use U-Tech? Which clear did you use?
Why-49! I love it.
Beautiful job Brian.
Thank you! Cheers!
I need to get you to paint my black Crx!!!! Awsome job on this car!!!!!
Looks awesome
徐々に美しく変身してくのが見ててワクワクします♫レストア動画いいね♫
I had an 89 same color a few years back and for some reason decided to sell it. Would love to have it back or find one same color. Love these cars
Nice job Brian, thanks for the upload.... we.d see loads of these CRXs here in the UK 1990s .. 30 years later super rare, not the fastest ride on the block but a cooler little machine !
Same here! In Canada they were everywhere and you could get them for scrap value bassically. Now I wish I could get my hands on one
Love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
There is an older guy in my small city that has a Barbados yellow crx on bronze TE37's. Looks so good. 13:55
Nice, I wanted to see that front bumper!
Using the SEM paint on the bumper looks amazing when just done but have you ever run into the problem of rock chip from highway driving and then the yellow is showing under the black?
I need the lab coat Brian! Lol
I'd love this car with a turbocharged K24!
I'm working on my 2003 Toyota Corolla s doing video by video you have. The question is do I have to take all the panels off? Cause I don't have helpers and panels , racks. To do it. I'm trying to follow everything you said. From the compressor being too small adding filters to its spray gun lplv gun. And
This was an awesome video! I had a 1985 CRX and loved it...but in the northeast, it was rusted out by 1995...especially behind the rear wheel wells and the bottom pinch seam on both doors. This must have been a California car...didn't see much rust at all for 34 year old car.
One request...could you make a video covering the challenges of painting the bumper covers and why they often look different? We had my wife's car repainted after an accident and the bumper cover looks ever so slightly different. They explained that it's nearly impossible to match but I never understood why. Since then, I've noticed tons of vehicles driving around with front and rear bumper covers that are very slightly off compared to the body of the car. Would be interesting to hear your take on that issue. Thanks!
Different materials, that’s why they look a little off even from brand new.
The ol' Y49
Good luck trying to live with that 'yellow' colour !!
My first car was a Honda CRX. That was back when you could get a car for under 8 grand almost new.
I almost bought one of those in 1989. I wanted one but kept my 89 Ranger xlt
PAINT ALWAYS OM POINT LOVE DA HONDAS
That glass removal tool looks awesome, where did you find something like that
Yo. Who's glass removal tool is that? Very cool.
How did you get started on doing body work and paint , I’ve always wanted to do this as a hobby but don’t know where to start
Honda should redesign the CRX model. Make hybrids and turbo models that would be exciting imo. Great little cars and great on gas. Make an EV model would be cool imo too. 16:44
They did on the first generation Insight. Mine got more than 300k miles at 50+mpg. But we definitely need more Crx based cars!
A respray doesn’t really mean “completely restored” just means it had a respray.
Oh ok. Ty for this invaluable info
It's an angelic ninja
You guys did an amazing job! Also what did you use to fill the holes in the bumper?
Fusor 100ez
And the car immediately bursts into flames after the paint job. #Y49curse
That is a real expensive paint job Brian. Is the quality and value of the car really worth the expense? What interface pads do you use on the sander? They look pretty thick to me, and I can only find the 3M ones here which are only 10mm.
Brian sometimes if I’m repairing old plastic or fibre glass motorcycle fairings I’m finding ordinary spray primer often reacts with any remaining old paint or primer (that hopefully didn’t a need a full strip). What could I use to resolve that?
It always will lift the edges and wrinkle. You need to use the 2k primer
Id love to get my 99 civic resprayed milano red but the cost is outside my price range for the kind of detail id really like. Ive been considering a wrap lately.
One question, why not paint the frame under the fender? I understand its not gonna be seen but for rust prevention.
Very beautiful car I have an 89 that I restored from the ground up. There are very special vehicles. This is an era that will never be duplicated ever again. but there’s one thing I am going to gripe about the car and you know I’m just messing around, but you know the yellow is very bad luck in this car. Every Honda guy knows that yellow has a curse behind it other than that very beautiful.
I remember i was there 3000 years ago 😂
Brian when you sprayed the Matt black on to the bumper, did you have to rub down the clearcoat first?
600 grit
Is that the car with the led dashboard? Had red model of one back in the 80s.
Just out of curiosity, does painting a car always include removal of windows/windshield? I got quoted $2000 for a budget paintjob of my Miata but they never mentioned removing the windshield in the itemized receipt. Thanks!
Not for a $2,000 job. This video shows more like a $10,000 job.
Nice restoration work. The only thing I don't like is the color. Just don't like yellow. Very little is needed. This would have looked so much better to my eyes in almost ANY other color.
Why use the block instead of the da sander? Would the sander not be quicker and easier? I'm just wondering what the advantages are ?
good thing they didnt because thee extra dust from radioactive paint wouldn't have been very good .
Where do I buy those tools to remove the windows!?!?!?
I would love to see what
Chip Foose could do to one of these cars.
You’re looking at Chip Foose right now haha
cool
YEAH!
How much approximately does something like this cost? 15k?
I would really consider doing this if I could find one without rotted quarters. That was a serious design flaw on those cars.
Wow. That paint and metal looked in pristine condition, merely dirty, before painting. Somebody must have had some money to burn.
Woohoo! I want to do this to all the CRX's I can find. I just need unlimited time and money.
You can do it! These old cars require your workmanship!
I wish Honda had kept the 2 door Civic it was the closest thing to this car they had. I almost bought one in 85-86 but I know I wouldn't have kept it very long I was bad about trading cars fairly often.
Completely Restored, do you have link.
Nice to see a restoration that's not being done on a dirt floor with people wearing open toed sandals.
How do I start painting for a career
How much you charged for this ?
How much would something like this cost ?
I wish you could paint my 2000 Impreza coupe
Woulda been the perfect time for the customer to pick any color other than that yellow. The s2000 yellow pearl woulda been nice but also more expensive lol
I’m on the fence about spraying a 67 Camaro separate like the CRX. It’s going to be black. I just keep thinking in my head that it won’t match lol I’ve never done it separately yet
Don’t overthink it, its just paint 🎨
It is black. It will match.
Solid colors aren’t problematic. It’s metallic and pearl colors like he said. I did a full paint job like this last year on a black car and did it separated over a few days using single stage. You have nothing to worry about especially with black.
