    My father had a fishing company in Sapele and my favorite dish of all foods is what we just call Chicken-Okra. It is a gumbo of chicken, okra and tomatoes served over white rice. It takes a long time to cook - hours and hours. We used to get canned Tomapep and bring back to Houston, Texas. Hot as fire. I always request this (my mother is now 87) for my birthday dinner.

    Nice one😍😍 quick tip:when cooking okro soup or any other slimy nigerian soup like ogbono,avoid covering the pot while it simmers or after cooking and it's still hot.when you cover the pot it reduces the 'goeyness' or sliminess of the okro in the soup,so most times the soup turns out runny or more watery than you would desire

    • @ceefade_athome
      @ceefade_athome  Před 6 lety +14

    I believe that the majority of Creole cuisine from Louisiana like gumbo is originated from Nigeria if I'm not mistaken.

      Yes, you are right. My dad is Nigerian and my mom is African American from the South (Tennessee). A lot of the foods they eat in the South have West African origin, especially Nigerian so she loves Nigerian food. I do too. Lol.
