Any time I have onigiri I always feel like I'm instantly transported to Japan. Luckily Thailand has a large community of Japanese expats so it's quite easy to find oginiri with various fillings at supermarkets. I still miss sitting in a park or by the river in small Japanese towns just enjoying onigiri and a bottle of tea!
When I visited Japan in 2019, I found that I liked Family Mart's onigiri and sandwiches the most.
I like the Lawson onigiri most.
I remember my momma making this with the sour plum...I love these

This was fun but makes me miss Japan even more. I loved being able to go into Lawson or Family Mart and pick up something when I didn't feel like going to a restaurant. I'm the same as Shinichi with Ume. If I don't feel well or if I have an upset stomach, ume always makes me feel better. I will even make tea with ume sometimes.
I do the same thing with ume, I learned it from my mom👍🏼
Ume, miso, and ginger are amazing when you’re sick...or hungover.

My son (a chef) has become a Mayo snob. He orders the Kewpie Mayo from Japan. He won’t eat any other now. Lol. ❤️
Have he tried making mayo? It's not very hard but you havecto stir a lot.
The tuna onigiri was my favorite growing up in Hawaii.
I love ume and onigiri. The first thing what I always do when I arriwe to Japan, I looking for the closest conviniant store to the airport, buy a couple of onigiri and a sapporo beer, and I know I arriwed to the right place. O how I miss Japan, I hope at the end of this year I will be able to visit again. 2020 trip was canceled unfortuanetly.
I like it when Yakiniku places serves plain onigiri with Shoyu at the side and we bbq it over the charcoal fire

Love your convenience store series. When in Japan we often get a light meal from the convenience store because it is such a good deal.
If 7Eleven in western countries were to start setting up their food offering the way they do in Japan, it would take off big time.
I love onigiri. Because japanese food is trendy you can now buy it in our country but they're expensive and have no taste

I ‘m like you both Umeboshi musubi is the best,,, I Hawaii there’s a good musubi called happy rice. It’s made with nametake, shiofuki konbu and edamane.. sooo so good. It’s like mazegohan and all you need is takuwan or any tsukemono. Ask Niki if she knows about. If you need the recipe, I’m more than happy to share with you all. You made me die for a musubi. I’ll make me one right now. Yummmm

It would be amazing if you could do some episode around a single theme of supermarket! Taking us to your favorite market and buying one type of food for each section (like one best frozen food, one bento, one snack etc) ♡
Poor Justin must've been scared silly by the thunder :(. most of the dogs I've had my entire life was scared silly by it-except the white one my thumbnail!

Hiiiii from 🇨🇦 and im sending my most sincerest thank you. My eyes are very very hungry. I loved visiting Japan about 5 years ago and my first impressions in Tokyo will forever be cherished memories, especially memories of all the convenience stores i found along the way and it was the definition of HEAVEN (omg I miss the hot food section with soooo much selection). I hope to visit again some day and find every single onigiri and get to taste the joy... btw I enjoy your descriptions.. it motivates me 😁. Stay safe stay well and stay full of good soul food 🙏
I wish there were more onigiri options where I live in the USA. There is a restaurant that just opened up recently that mostly sells onigiri that I want to try.

First time I ever had Onigiri it was on a backpacking trip with friends of my mom and dad. We had them the first day in Yosemite starting the John Muir Trail. It was pickled plum. I was so hungry and it was so good.

This is making me miss Japan SO much! I've had a go at making my own onigiri but it's not the same. My favourite was a limited edition one from Family Mart with chilli oil (like La Yu) inside. It was my breakfast every day in Yokohama. I was devastated when they stopped selling it!

I just went to Marukai, Mitsuwa and Nijiya here in San Diego for my monthly shopping. Japanese food is so expensive here! In addition to my normal items I bought 3 tuna onigiri ($2.80 each) and there was hardly any tuna😕

The onigiris in Japan's convenience stores have way more filling than the US ones! It's like 3-4x times more! They're also more fresh, the ones I've tried are all cold and hard rice...

I had onigiri for breakfast lunch & dinner at times during my last visit. Compacted transportable delicious 😋
I remember that separated nori onigiri from Family Mart was one of the first things I ate when I went to Japan. Was, and still kind of am, not a huge fan of nori, but that was awesome. There was also another one that the nori ripped away super easily. Like how cotton candy would. I don't remember what that was though, other than (I think) having salmon in it.
If for whatever reason you guys haven't tried the Lawson swiss roll though, you really need to. It's the one that has says mochi as part of the name. Ugh that thing is easily one of my favorite things to eat in Japan. Must buy every single time.
I am the worst Onigiri maker, failed many times and then I call my japanese friend Chef ex Nobu Chef and he always sends me his homemade Onigiri because I’m begging while crying. I’m always spoilt! Everyone loves Loretta in Bali

Whitebait is super popular here in New Zealand! I think our variety is a native one, but I'm sure Japan's whitebait is just as delicious! Over here, we tend to eat them cooked into fritters/patties made from flour and egg. They're admittedly overpriced, but damn they're good...

During my trips to Japan my breakfasts on the go was always onigiri. I can’t remember which konbini it was but there was one whose onigiri did not come with pictures (I think it was 7/11)...it was thanks to choosing the wrong one that I got to try KOMBU (8:40) and that’s my #1 favourite now haha
Trying mentaiko was great as well... there was also a tonkotsu ramen special onigiri back then, it had a perfectly soft egg embedded in it so delicious 🤤
I did develop a taste for ume-shu but why didn’t I try the umeboshi onigiri 🤔 I will have to try it next time for sure from your recommendation!

My fave onigiri are tuna/mayo, salmon, mentaiko mayo and konbu. They have these here in Hawaii but its not the same. They can't get the rice right.

I missed the premium range so much. FM expanded a lot in Malaysia but they didn't bring in the premium range.
never seen sansai onigiri but I've never been in Japan in spring. Is it really bitter? I love the kombu one. I like to try the different onigiri but usually come back to the kombu. The shirasu one sound good too, and I really want to try the takomeshi; I love octopus!! I realize now that I have never really tried ume onigiri. I really like ume and the umeboshi furikake tasted to good, but somehow never bought an ume onigiri hahaha

Sea chiki? Like chicken of the sea? Love it :D My favourite is konbu in soy sauce, which seems quite rare in Canada anyway
