If only in the land of America we could get more than garbage attempt of anything close to this. I think this is a fine example of a Japanese man that controls the actual products in the Japanese stores. Is sad. You have it way better than we do here in US. Basically what we get from a 7-11 is literally garbage on comparison
Imo, if all convenience stores in the U.S. carried nutritious, delicious, and inexpensive food we wouldn't have quite as large a problem as we do with urban hunger and other diet-related problems. I'm also impressed by the freshness, variety of foods, and the rotating "menu" of combini. Thanks for another yummy and informative video, Shinichi and Satoshi. Everything looked so tasty.
Japan is engaged in a 'race to the top' between the convenience store chains. They want to offer the best quality and service at the best prices. In America, we're engaged in a 'race to the bottom' where all the chains are cutting every single corner to maximize profits while slowly but surely reducing the expectations of the average American. We accept it, though, and that allows them to get away with it.
There's a famous scene in the show Seinfeld where they go on about the hierarchy of babka. Chocolate is on top, cinnamon is a less-popular flavor but also pretty common (at least here in NYC). And yes, this Lawson one looks much more like the real thing than that 7-11 one.
Yes, the convenience store videos will never get old. I'm so envious of the convenience store varieties you have in Japan, and it's always nice to live vicariously just watching your videos.
Hey guys, please pack up everything you had today and send it over to me!🤣🤣🤣. All of the items looked delicious and I haven't eaten yet so my stomach is growling. I am seriously afraid that when I get to Japan that I will be hitting the convenience stores quite often. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable program today. 👍. Have a great week.
Carry on with the Great food reviews for people who cannot travel to Japan! You are both wonderful human beings ❤️, keep up the good work and please stay safe !
Everything looked so good!! And it never ceases to amaze me how much higher quality food your conbinis provide compared to the US 7-11/Wawa-type convenience store foods. Thank you for trying all the yummy food (even the spicy ones!) and sharing with your viewers!
omg I love tuna mayo onigiri, I can only imagine how delicious that grilled beef and mayo onigiri must be! I hope it'll stay in their stores for a long time so whenever I can visit Japan I'll be able to try it lol
I must agree with Shinichi, this babka does look more authentic! Still a bit different than what I'm used to, but the one at 7-eleven didn't even look like something resembling a babka to me lol. The babka flavors I'm aware of are chocolate and cinnamon but I'm sure there are other flavors as well. I actually have some babka at home right now and although it's chocolate flavor, cinnamon is also listed as an ingredient, which surprised me to see! Love that you guys checked out another babka, cheers from Washington DC
Are you two planning to make a tour for tourists from Hawaii..... you both would make the perfect tour guide. The last time I went to Japan I had the most terrible tour guide. You both speak English and you both know Hawaii style that I know you’ll treat the Hawaii people to comfort and satisfying to have visited Japan.... keeping my fingers crossed that you will consider do the tour guide ..let me know. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤙🤙
I know others have mentioned it, but you have to watch Seinfeld, season 5 episode 13, The Dinner Party ... Chocolate vs Cinnamon Babka ... CLASSIC! Elaine: "You sold me a hair with a cake around it." 🤣😂
So many people told me it was expensive to go to Japan, but we found the food at the convenience store very affordable and delicious. If traveling on a budget it is possible with convenience store offering. Those choices do look amazing!!! Oishi!!!
People who say it is expensive have probably never been to Japan. It's no more expensive than going somewhere in western Europe for hotels, and food is way cheaper in Japan if you do not go for super fancy stuff. I've been to Japan several times and even the cheap food there is spectacularly good, well worth going even just for that. Taxis are not cheap but not super expensive either, about the same as western Europe. Busses for long distances are cheap, Shinkansen train is pricey but cool to try once or twice just for the experience. But if you can budget about the equivalent of 100euro a day you can cover a business class hotel and food and some travel, a little more will allow you to try out some more exotic kind of food experiences like fine Wagyu beef, maybe Fugu if you are willing to try that (it's very good!).
@@noth606 yep agreed Japan is inexpensive. I have been several times and yes the food and the sights are first class. Japanese people are so respectful compared to other parts of the World. I love everything about Japan, food, culture, nightlife sights, history and the people, so much so I married a beautiful Japanese lady. We have now been married 22 years. We never stay with family we always stay in hotels or Ryokans, as I love the hot springs (rotemboro)outside bath. Tip you must get away from the tourist traps otherwise you will pay dearly. All the of the Japanese konbini stores are way better than Australia for example, there sandwhiches are always fresh, the variety is huge compared the sad and sorry 7-11’s I. Australia.
@Tima yes mate several times. My wife’s is Japanese. I love the culture, the people and the food. Also the sights and smells are wonderful. Have been to Aomori for the Nebuta Matsuri? It is an experience. Possibly Tsukiji market is my favorite place.
I really envy you two. I would love to live in Japan, and enjoy in it's rich culture and yummy foods. Also, I don't know how you two stay so fit with all those amazing deserts you two try all the time. :D
Once again you leave me wishing I could try that and wondering how, if Japanese 7-Eleven and the like is so good, is the American version so craptacularly bad. Reheated rotating sweat dogs, preservative "burgers" more cardboard than meat, sodas, chips and candy. That's it.
IKR!? I watch these guys eating such amazing foods then I walk into my local convenience store and just get depressed. Best of everything there. Even their dollar stores are better.😣
The problem is that, here in America, the 'convenience stores' have no incentive to offer high quality products since the low grade garbage is still selling. American's standards have been decimated by a corporate-led race to the bottom.
I loved "...super oishii!" 🍙 It is amazing how many new items Japanese convenience stores get every week. Does that mean that they retire a similar number of items on a weekly basis too? Thank you for sharing! 🙏
This inadvertently turned into a spicy noodle challenge, lol! Thank you guys for sharing. I'm sad we don't get such good meals from 7-Eleven here in the US.
I would love to know the logistics of how these convenience stores have new items every week! That's so incredible to me. Here we're lucky if 7/11 has anything to eat at all, let alone new food weekly. They usually only have chips/snacks and drinks, no fresh food and if they do you wouldn't want to go near it. The only quality convenience store I ever had access to in my area is Wawa but they've become much larger and I think much of the supply coming from local places and all of their dairy coming from their own farms has likely switched over to massive factories somewhere to be able to supply much of the east coast with many of their products. Fascinating how differently things work!
Everything looked delicious! I wish the convenience store here in the states had high quality food like in Japan & Korea! Where’s Justine? Please film Justin more! 🙏🏻Please! He’s so cute!
This is awesome, we can’t wait to try to find these items. We unfortunately couldn’t find the beef stew bento from the last video in the Okinawa Lawson 😭
You two just make me so happy.... the food is marvellous, but you have such wonderful personality and attitudes that anything you would put in your videos would be an instant mood elevator for me. Thank you so much for another wonderful video!

First thought, Beef and Mayo? Nahhh, that's not going to work it's a strange combo... but THEN, after seeing the reaction from Shinichi how tasty is is: I NEED this in my life😭 now😂
I wonder if your babka has any remote conection to our polish babka. It looks completely diffrent, we usually have it around Easter, it has raisins and/or candied orange peel in the dough.
Our pre-made 7-11 items are not even crispy here. They are spongy not to mention. I've visited at least 35 of 50 states of the US I've never seen a lawsons
You guys are so fortunate. If we're lucky the convenient stores may add 1 item. Plus the items are mostly crap overall. The most cheaply produced crap available
I really, really miss the convenience stores in Tokyo... Speaking of which, I watched a foreigner vlogger that staying in Japan, he says dining in a restaurant, you are actually paying for their service and environment. He says actually can get a pretty decent price (or even cheaper) of food ingredients from supermarket to cook. Is it possible to make a video of price difference when you dine out and cook at home? Let say, Shabu Shabu?
This is true of the USA too: when you dine in a restaurant you are paying for the service and the environment. The menu price pays for the ingredients and for the preparation of the food and drinks, and the "tip" is paying for the service and the environment provided by the waitstaff. (I put "tip" in quotations because it is almost 100% of the waitstaff's income because the restaurant only pays them enough to cover the taxes taken out of their checks.) Unless you are cooking something that requires special equipment or uncommon ingredients, it is almost always significantly less expensive to cook it at home instead of going out.

I love Satoshi for waiting to say it was spicy until Shinichi had definitively had a mouthful of soup. There was some timing to that.

Satoshi died a little bit inside when he learned cinnamon was in the babka 🤣
Cinnamon is really quite pungent. It has to be balanced by something really sweet.
Babka is Polish/Ukrainian and it originates from both countries and was created by their Jewish communities.
in Poland we also have a cake called Baba, which my grandma used to make very often. :)
