Car people: I'll creep at 5mph so not a drop goes into my intake.
Non car people: The faster I go, the water will get scared and move out the way.
Normal people: Build a bridge
@@gennaromirra5270 they have, it is 1.5 miles further to take the bridge. This Ford is part of a historic water mill that's also a museum.

The water was really shallow too.
For those who are curious as to why they don't just build a bridge, it's cause they can't a ford it.
They would have to rename the place Rufbridge.
Ahahahahaha
wouldn't need to be a bridge ... a large diameter concrete tube underneath and the road on top, wouldn't be expensive at all. Wouldn't look cool, wouldn't be a bridge, but would serve the purpose and is cheap

A Sprinter making a wise decision at 1:10!
Lol
Yeah he is educated on the horrendous water crossing capabilities of the Sprinter. Sprinters die the quickest.
@@MistahDave92 because almost all Mercs have air filters at low level
@@jesuschrist2287 yes lol. Almost as if intentionally done to sell more vehicles.
The only one
Why is everyone bombing through it like it won’t touch the engine lol.
not about the touching. Your engine is water resistent, BUT your airintake, which is often located at the higher part of your bumper, isnt! these morons get water in their airintake and the whole block might 'explode' from watercompression
Modern cars have their air intakes close to the place where the air pressure (at speed) is highest to increase engine efficiency and reduce wind resistance, the same applies for water pressure ofcourse, so as long as the water reaches high enough they’re fucked hahaha
Love some good old hydrolock
Engine isnt the problem, the air intake is. Get a snorkel and you're pretty safe
Sprinter at 1.10, nooooo this is the watery graveyard of my friends. Back up, back up.

@@highdownmartin More likely just steam from the hot exhaust in the water.
Yeah, couldn't work that one out. Clearly loves the car - you don't drive one of those unless you are into them and it looked well kept yet he drove into the water like a mad man!
@@thebrowns5337 As a classic car owner, I'd go quicker not slower - water in the distributor will stop it running, get through it, let momentum carry, wait for the dizzy to dry, fire up and crack on. Rather than cut out and sit in the drink.
I'm just thinking of rust! 😂 hopefully that car stays in good nick, it looked to be in mint condition then
Modern vehicles take on a little water, dead. Old school MG takes a lungfull, coughs it out and goes on its merry way!
Nothing like giving the engine a good old drink of water
that’s what that old boy driving that mg thought 🤣
As someone who drives everyday through Manila, where flooded roads are an everyday occurrence, especially during rainy season, a piece of advice - do not power through flood. Speeding through a flood will push water up towards your bonnet/hood, where it will do the most damage. Instead drive slowly while keeping your revs up. Switch to first gear, or on automatics L. This should keep water from flowing into the exhausts. Driving slowly and steady pace will give you the best chance of going through that flood as safe as possible. And once you're committed, DO NOT stop in the middle of the water, like that Mini did. Even lifting off the gas pedal will allow water to go in through the exhaust and drown off the engine. Go in, go through, dont stop.
Exactly my thoughts, living in the monsoon regions, this isn’t really a flooded road. Rather a mere puddle.
Great advice here from a fellow asian. Another advice to add will probably be to turn off the AC when entering the flood. If the flood appears to be entering the grill or where the intake is, it is advised to not go through.
Its not the exhaust dear. Most imp is the front air intake and its relative position. Hondas and dodge chargers have intake scoop as low as the wheels so they suck up water like sipping juice 🥤 from a glass.
i have to correct you on something: water does not enter the exhaust even st iddle. You should not accelerate, you should go low on revs. at higher rpm an engine sucks a lot of air, making it more possible for water to enter the engine. Instead, if your engine "drinks" a little bit of water, it maybe just coughs a little or just hidrolock. But if you go with high rpm, you most certainly will bend a rod
@@junaidgt90 actually it is not good to have water up the exhaust too, it won't kill the engine but it will be annoying AF to get the water out, and you will feel the engine struggling to get it out. It will take a long drive to clear it, it happened to me in my old Mercedes.
1:29 my man know cars
1:20 "How to not drive through a deep puddle."
1:28 "How to properly drive through a deep puddle."
I made it through a puddle that came up to my door in my minivan, water crept in as I was going through it. But I knew to keep the throttle low. That kid's engine is done for. He should not have floored it, because he just sucked a bunch of water in revving it up like that. 😂

I love how people with low vehicles just plow into it. Make sure everything important gets absolutely hosed. Wombats.
That’s not the issue. It’s getting water into the intake. Vehicles can drive completely underwater as long as they have a snorkel for the engine intake.
@@brianfeuerman1732 no they cant lmao you think nothing will happen to electrical connections if you put the car underwater?
@@jayb7932 The important ones are resistant to water. You know, the ones that keep your transmission working, your engine running, etc. I wouldn’t expect your windows, sunroof, stereo, and other things of that sort to be working, but the car will drive as long as the tires are gripping. Course, you’d probably want to check out the fluids when it gets back on the surface. I’d be mainly concerned about transmission fluid, but hey maybe the engine oil and coolant caps don’t keep water out very well.
@@brianfeuerman1732 Don’t talk daft. Water would get into every electrical component and the car would die. Underwater lol.

The guy in the tractor:
_might go fast through that puddle_
I'm surprised how many people take chance to destroy their vehicle. In many cars engine air intake is located behind main light. If water level is rising to the level of main lights, it is possible that water does find way inside to the engine. Modern cars has got also lot of plastic panels. Those can be damaged when peoples does use too high speed when driving through water. To reduce risk of car damage, there is very simple rule: Drive slowly! Many people does have skill to drive fast, but it take more brain capacity to reduce speed to the right and safe level.
Exactly.
nicely said
Even driving slowly I wouldn't risk it. Seeing cars with DSG here for example, reminds me that a lot of DSG cars got gearbox damage because at low speeds it took water to moving parts. Just turn around and spend 5 more minutes to commute, people.
You gotta get that most of these people who drive through that water, they probably do that on daily basis, because they live there and they don't really give a f for their cars, because all they care about is getting from point A to point B.
MGC:
"Hydro-lock? Not today, thanks!"
My dad used to blast through this thing with me in the back seat laughing my head off 😂 happy memories
I seriously question humanity these days, isn't it well known that if you drive through high water without taking care that it will get into the engine, water doesn't compress and goodbye engine? Or am I crazy?
Hydrolock is a cruel teacher.
No, not at all. It's just that some humanity believes the earth is flat, we didn't land on the moon, and what the hey - if you walk round naked wearing a bright purple hat with a calfskin band and an upside down peacock feather, unlimited wealth and power is yours!
So yeah, humanity can also go round bending con rods as well... 👌
Even though many people doesn’t know about hydrolock which is not mentioned on driving test why so many driving without due care and slowly through deep water?!
So the fact some people are rubbish drivers makes you ‘question humanity’? Righto...
@@evoermine It's not so much that they're rubbish drivers - IMO it's more that there's plenty of written and video evidence out there saying that water is bad for your car and you need to do it right (if I'm not mistaken how to ford a body of water is in the UK driving test), and some people either haven't learned or don't know. Personally I'd question some parts of humanity as opposed to the whole lot of us....

01:40 - Where was that skoda's intake?! In the sump or something?
Really odd. He drove slowly and carefully
A lot of VW group cars have the intake near the bottom of the wheel arch.
Lower air intakes - maybe another 'modern' car thing? Colder air is denser so gives more power during combustion. That could help massage the performance/economy figures even though it causes problems in these situations. Even that helps car makers/dealers though as they get money off you again.

I can't believe how badly waterproofed modern vehicles are. Most of the ones that died in this vid were wading through water shallower than some puddles on the motorways these days.
It'd not so much waterproofing but the technique in which they cross water crossings. But I'm guessing watercrossings in the UK isn't a lot where the general public isn't very educated in how to cross them safely and effectively? I'm from Australia for reference.
Ah sure as engineer I will care about those 0.0001% in england who drive through water puddles because the state is to stupid to build proper streets.
Modern cars are plastic crap and endless money pits with a big Chinese tablets in the middle and bunch of crap electronics, small engines and dull design.
I can't believe you don't understand that 90% of the cars in the videos are turbocharged. You need at least a small SUV to get wadding depth of maximum 45cm, like Volvo XC40 or other small city SUVs. Most of the cars in the video bombed through the water creating a wave in front and that at the moment was a solid 60 up to 90cm water level. No matter where your air intake is in the engine bay, it will get flooded. Sedans/hatchbacks "normal cars" have wadding depth maximum 30cm. Your comment is absolutely out of touch with reality, it has nothing to do with waterproofing. Unlikely even one of those cars that ran through the water got any water in the interior. That means they are "waterproof". Engines, especially those who need x amount of air to function compared to naturally aspirated ones.
