For me instead, the Great Ape fights instilled dreadful awe whenever I had to fight them, especially Baby's. And I was 8 when I got the game.
Then, I discovered how to unlock most characters in Tenikaichi 2, which then led to unlocking them too... it was, magical to say the least.
