For next time get a backpack that sits a lot higher and has straps around the hips. That should be the lowest point of the backpack. That way your shoulders won’t have to carry all the weight. Put heavy items in the top
@@macerly It doesnt look as cute but Im a huge fan of Deuter. Their hip straps dont detach and theres a whole ergonomic frame as well as shoulder straps to balance the bag. that being said Ive never gone larger than 28 Liters for a backpack and have never done the classical backpack trip in that sense. The downside though to the more ergonomic packs is that they are usually top loaders which is hard to pack and unpack for sure. Glad you found stuff that worked for you on your trip
I think what OP means is to have straps like you have on the North Face Terra 55 Backpack. If you they got lost during the flight they probably weren't of the best quality to begin with...
@kristin123a when it comes to things like backpacks or hiking boots I think the most important thing is to try them on to see how they fit your body. I wouldn't get them online if I could help it.
Also, if you are travelling internationally and put liquid / cream / gel personal care items in carry on, you are better off with volume labelled bottles (ones that have the amount in oz or ml written on it). You can use the same bottle or reuse old travel size bottles for this. I say this because you are usually allowed to have up to 1L of personal items, in 100ml bottles or less. If the bottle is not labelled, it is entirely up to security check whether they allow it through or not. My SIL had her shampoo travel size container thrown solely because it didn’t have the volume written on it (even though she told them she knew the container was 50ml) 🥴
For anyone who likes the Lulu Lemon bag, I have one from the brand Gaiam; and I love it so much they look very similar and it was only $16 on Amazon the quality is great
The back pack straps should be at the same level as your shoulders and a good waist strap will keep the weight better distributed instead of pulling on the shoulders. Basically, it's about the fit/positioning of the bag that really matters. Even the best bag will hurt if not properly positioned.
I found those little magnetic containers to be very heavy even when empty. Did you also try the small travel size silicone bottles? I preferred them due to weight alone.
The small transparent bag for your Hygiene products seems so come in handy too, no long searching, thats nice when travelling from a backback! Could you name the brand by the way? X
Backpacking when you are sleeping in hostels (I.e. indoors) IMO is better with a rolling suitcase rather than a backpack. It’s easier to pull a heavy suitcase than it is to walk around in sweltering heat with all of your belongings on your back.
I think she decided to carry a backpack because it counts as a personal item. A rolling suitcase will be carry on (the airline charges for it). That’s my believe at least 🤔
@@sibymiller In the UK where I’m from, they care less about what style of carry on bag you have and more about it’s size and weight. It’s also important to pack light - if you wash your clothes as you travel you don’t need to bring as many on longer trips. I would rather spend an hour in a laundrette every week or less time hand washing my clothes than pack too much.
I think it depends on how long you're staying in a given hostel. If you're travelling to a destination and then staying there for a longer period of time, roller bags make sense. You just leave it in the room, so it doesn't really matter. If you're moving hostels every few days though, or are just trying to do tourist things on your travel days when you're having to move around with your luggage, then backpacks make sense. It can be difficult to navigate crowded areas or places with bad sidewalks with a roller bag and the backpack allows you to have your hands free
Personally I wouldn't buy a 40+ Liter Backpack that doesnt have starps in the front for support. Just came back from a weekend trip with my 40L Backpack and because it has hip straps and a chest strap in the front the weight gets distributed more and it doesn't all hang on your shoulders. I feel like its a big over sight and a big no for when companies dont do that for the bigger travel backpacks 😅
Another thing I would recommend: plastic bags and bag sealing clips (you can easily find in IKEA) any snacks or food you buy but don’t want to/can’t finish immediately or just want to save it for a train/plane ride or to consume another time or for keeping dirty clothes in a plastic bag and don’t want to tie it up immediately if you have more to add on for the next day, or some wet toiletries that you don’t want to wet the rest of your items just bag it up in a plastic bag and clip it up :)
Do you know the name of the one that opens up like a suitcase? They seem to have a lot of different kind but I want to find the kind you’re talking about!
I chest clip on that back pack would help. with the weight on the shoulders. My travel has one and with neck and shoulders issues, it really does help.
Lulu Lemon is really problematic :(. I used to love them too until I lived in Vancouver (where it was founded) and found out from everyone that the founder is awful. And then was the lawsuits against him and his very public rants about women, fatphobia, racism and classism. Please do NOT support this brand.
How can you stand a microfiber towel on your skin directly? With cloth diapers: direct contact with skin can dry your skin out really badly and cause rashes.
"only downside you'll be in pain after 30 mins of carrying your backpack" you mean that it's lit useless? personally if i can't walk with my backpack i'm reselling it
@@macerly Something thats worked for me through trial and error is to have one medium backpack and a small suitcase. Put the heavier stuff in the backpack and carry the suitcase in your hand when there are unsmooth surfaces. having two bags can help offset the weight of the one really big bag. Of course everyone prefers different things. Maybe this can be one bigger backback and a smaller one.
The microfiber towels are amazing but they usually fullfil a very specific purpose. If you have autism or are sensitive to certain textures and don't like the normal towels then this is for you. They are super compact, light weight and dry fast but mostly they are like any regular towel if you don't care about the texture. Ever since I got one I haven't been able to use a normal towel I love it so much. If you are trying to save on space but still want to bring a towel for one reason or another this is a good option.

The travel containers look so so nice but they are crazy expensive
And theyre heavy tbh

@@euro_babe Exactly. When you empty it out during the trip, youre just carrying deadweight

Human Gear makes some good ones.
Honestly the shoulder straps would be a deal breaker for me, but since you bought it already one should get shoulder strap pads
