Renting in general is just a terrible concept. If you pay $25,000 a year (average in Australia) then that's $25,000 in the rubbish, you'll never see again.. I don't know the situation in the UK but the monthly mortgage payments to own your own home in Australia in many areas are the same or even less than the cost of rent and your $25,000 doesn't disappear you earn equity in the home. Don't rent if you can avoid it.

Just curious, do you get something from the places you visit. I have the habit of visiting the local supermarkets anywhere I visit and get local things. Mostly food, wine. Recently I was in Italy and brought back pasta, butter, pistachio creme , olive oil etc. 🙈 I love doing that.

Life lesson. Never put effort into a rented flat . Its not your home you will be thrown out . Either buy a house or live in a van . Renting is to unstable. I know i once chucked chesterfield sofas i was still paying for into the skip . A rental property is like a hotel at best .
