Welcome to my review of the brilliant 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross Design.
Although this is a head rather than heart car, it does much to endear itself to the driver and is capable of truly amazing MPG figures. Despite being a little pricier than some of its competitors, this Yaris Cross is one of the best compact SUVs on the market.
Find out more about the Toyota Yaris Cross in this very honest car review from Jim Starling (Definitely Not A Guru).

Had my Yaris Cross just over one year and 11,000 miles I can confirm everything you have covered in your excellent U-Tube review of the Yaris Cross. If anyone is considering buying this B segment SUV I would totally recommend this fantastic Toyota Yaris Cross. Thank you for the great review, well done🤗

We got our brand new one just over a week ago after waiting 4 months but absolutely worth the wait. Having flirted with Vauxhall I am now firmly back in the arms of my Toyota Yaris (my first love and new car) who has grown into a Yaris Cross and I am there for keeps! Well done Toyota! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

First timer to your channel. Great quick review. I fully agree with you on flat floors. I'm in mk7 golf and love the deep floor to stop things rolling out. Thinking of changing to Toyota as wife's rav4 has amazing fuel economy for size of vehicle though I do prefer seats on vw. In Ireland with our double tax on new cars it's near 30k euro plus for yaris cross entry model. As someone looking up reviews for cars things I look for are seat comfort adjustment, infotainment sound quality, mpg figures, boot space, road noise in cabin. Toyota have better customer support than most. I persuaded my Aunt out of diesel saloon to the yaris cross and she loves it.

Good review ….I used to be a bit of a speed freak but since moving from Turbo Diesel’s to a mk 4 Prius and now a Yaris Cross for company car tax savings these Toyota hybrids are just so good at practical motoring. Super easy and chilled out to drive and great reliability and running costs. A lot of typical car reviewers just don’t seem to get it but with potholes, traffic and speed cameras everywhere they make a lot of sense.

Hello mate great review, pleased my misses no end ,because we just picked our scorched orange gr sport on Tuesday, and we are loving it. The only disappointment is the GR range doesn't come with a power tailgate, which we were used to on our ford kuga we just sold, although I offered to pay extra, apart from that it's great car, thanks again Paul and Di.

Like to say great review, both you and many of the comments reflect the comments that I would use. I have now had my Yaris Cross for over a year, I do have all wheel drive, but here in Australia especially where I live reliability is paramount, have driven up around the snowiest on unsealed roads and found it shore footed and exciting to drive with a bit of slide when driving a little faster than I should, as for the rough road it is a bit more comfortable than a lot of others I have driven on the same roads, as for highway driving have done trips of over 300 Klm in one run of Highway stick it in cruise control and it just purrs along with ease , have just got back from a 900 klm run no stiff joints or sore back from sitting for 5 to 6 hours at the wheel, just looking forward to go again.

Quality vid Jim 🤙🏻 I’ve got a 4 year lease & 1 year in, I drive the dynamic with safety pack, JBL & pan roof. It comes with auto park, black 18’s & silver paint with black roof & it looks nice. The most I’ve got & shoes on the app, was a mega 124mpg & it’s always around 70+ mpg on a daily run to work, which is 12 miles there & back. It is a little skippy over ruff roads & the door cards are like stone with a lick of cloth. I’ve had performance cars over the years, so even in power mode, it doesn’t set you alight, but it’s an overall good drive & a nice higher seating position is nice. It’s defo worth a test drive & I pay £336 pm, that’s now very cheap for what I’ve seen (hope it’s ok to put that price?) Keep up the good reviews 😁🤙🏻

If I was in the market for a small SUV I would probably have this. The Toyota hybrid systems are excellent especially in urban driving when they run silently. They are well proven too and stand up to big mileages. BTW mate the VW T-Cross would be a rival rather than the T-Roc which is a bigger Golf based SUV.

Too bad they added it to new prius, a car with 2.0 engine.... hmm great economy. In my oppinion a hybrid should have only 1.5 engine because a hybrid means fuel economy, who doesnt want fuel economy should buy turbo diesel.

    • @devon7008

It's totally different to what everyone knows as a CVT. There are no cones or belts, or the problems associated with them, just two MG's (Motor Generators) joined with an ingenious set of gears, and accurately controlled by computer. It shouldn't even be referred to as a CVT in my opinion. 👍

It is sad that all car reviews say "It's got Android Auto" for many cars these days as if it was a plus point, glossing over the fact that it does not have satnav in its own right. What is android auto like to use and does the car radio still play whilst the phone satnav is working?

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  Před 6 měsíci

They say that because car play and AA are far better than any manufacturer sat nav. If reviewers say it, then there’s good reason.

Far too expensive, too tinny, gutless with its gearbox and dealers milking it when it comes to delivery and part ex prices. I looked at one of these and was quoted about 9 months for delivery. Ended up buying an 8 month old BMW X1 diesel with X drive and a lot more solid. Durable meaning its full of scratchy plastic. Plenty of them around my area with driving schools.

In fact it was pretty brisk especially away from the lights. In any case your comparison is not like for like. The Yaris Cross is a small (supermini) based SUV starting at £24k. The X1 starts at £34k. For £10k more I would hope the X1 does offer more performance and some soft touch materials on the dash!!

Wait until you've done a few short journeys and then the Yaris Cross won't start as the 12volt battery has lost charge! When the dealers are contacted they tell you you should do a minimum of 8,000 miles a year then try to sell you a trickle charger or a solar charger. This is an acknowledged fault but Toyota seem not to want to confront it. Spoils a nice vehicle.

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru

I'm intrigued by the number of of 12v battery problems that I've read about, our Yaris Cross is driven most days but does less than 10,000km/year. On two occasions this year it has been garaged for 4 weeks and then 6weeks while on holidays, started no problems.
The 12v battery has no cranking duties as in a conventional car, so should have an easy life. It is small so using accessories while the hybrid system is off could quickly deplete its charge.
