THE BEST BOURBON OF THE YEAR!

- Dan and I went through the castle and grabbed all the bourbons that we thought had the potential to be the best bourbons of the year. After 5 blinds we each crown our king of 2022! Fred Minnick's Whiskey of the year was William Larue Weller. Will we follow suit? We blind 25 bourbons to find the 10 best that we own!

It’s good to have a review of all bourbons even if they are allocated. I can go to a bar/restaurant and get a pour of things I can’t buy
I can't get enough of your video's. Congrats on the 100k!
6:13 “I don’t feel good” 😂
I definitely agree with this. Someone does not make a list of what their favorite thing was last year based on the fact that other people could have it as well. You make a list of what your favorite bottles of the year were because were your favorites.
But I guess that clarifies the difference between viewers who watch you as influencers, as opposed to fellow whiskey enthusiasts.
Congrats on 100k, you guys have definitely been putting in that work the last couple years, and it's been fun watching. Cheers 🇺🇸 🥃
Everyone scared after it’s bourbon night hahah
Well we didn't know we had to be until people turned on them
Great list. This is fun and I enjoy how you put this together. Disco 8 was my whiskey of the year. Cheers
Great vid! (Also, good to see top of 2022; others are doing too 2023- year that hasn’t occurred yet…)
I’m very happy for your 100k milestone. You deserve it.
Surpringly, that Four Gate Indiana was pretty easy to find online at a great price. I had the pitch of four variations and looks like I went with the right one. Cheers!
Congrats on 100k guys!!
Thank you!!
One of your best vids, sad you both took out Cal 16 as I love that bottle, but your end result was great to see. Always love the blind ranking!
Love the top ten regardless that I only have one of those bottles. Great content! Here’s to 2023 gents!
You don't need disclaimers. Let haters hate. If it's a list about the 'best,' then it's about the best. Period. Allocated or not. Its like this: if ya wanna drive a Ferrari - you gotta pony up that Ferrari $$$. Don't get mad cause you can't find or afford that Ferrari experience for Camry $$ ..those days are gone....it's why those bottles are so damn special. They are the best. I'll happily drink my findable CF16 - It's everywhere for $134 to $150ish or ECBP or RB , and pray to the bourbon gods I snag a lotto bottle once a year. And then throughly enjoy letting you dudes entertain us while sipping on my Camry $$ pour!
Happy to see that FG Batch 22 Indiana Foundation on there! Spotted it in the background of a previous video and was hoping you guys would review it but glad to see it got some love in the best of the year video.
That was fun! For you guys as well.
1. Heaven Hill 17
2. George T. Stagg
3. Van Winkle Lot B
4. William Larue Weller
5. Russell's Reserve 13
6. Old Fitzgerald 17
7. Larceny Barrel Proof C922
8. Lucky Seven The Proprietor
9. Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch
10. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B522
I had a pour of heaven hill 17 this year and was surprisingly not a fan of it. I know I might be the only person on earth that says that but I wasn't gonna pay for another pour to find out.
@@jakeaugust1542 There's no shame in not liking the older stuff. Not everyone is a fan of oak. I bet you would like Wild Turkey products.
@@awsomenesscaleb oh I like old stuff. Was just something about the pour I had I didn't enjoy it. I was in Vegas when I had it and it was $100 so that also might have had something to do with it
@@jakeaugust1542 It's a divisive one. Fred Minnick didn't even put it in his top 100. ADHD gave it one of his highest scores ever. It's one of the best things I've personally ever had, but I can see how some wouldn't like it. The profile is unusual.
Best available list, heck yea!
Enjoy it all!
Drinking vicariously through you...
Got sinus infection end of december and just finishing anti-biotic and prednisone.
So #dryjanuary has been thrust upon me by force.
Damn fine list on both sides. Let the contest begin for 2023!
Thoroughly enjoyed Boureye this year, but yeah, it's not gonna hang against all the high proofers. It's probably my favorite low proofer for the year though. Real glad I bought two bottles when I went out to High West.
Dan, I though for sure Chattanooga Founders would have been in your top 20. I love that bottle. If you like all these better than Founders they must be amazing whiskey. Great year of tasting for you guys. Looking forward to 2023 reviews.
1000% it's top 20 but didn't make top 15
Living in North Carolina it's nice to know which bourbons I'll NEVER get to friggen taste! Thanks guys. Another great vid.
This was fun! Woodford Batch proof was top 5 for me. 🔥
Those are great lists. I love the mix of available and unobtanium and the fact you do it blind. I definitely agree on the Woodford, I love that bottle. And this makes me again wish Bardstown for available here in PA. I'm not quite willing to drive down to DE to get it but might need to rethink that now.
Now for 2023, are you going to put some Virtue into the blinds? Might be a little conflict of interest...
I just gotta say how good was the Woodford batch proof this year made my list pretty high too. A real underdog story
Fantastic list! Great stuff!
Super surprised Cal 16 didnt make it to the top 10 out of those. Thanks for another year of your content.
Solid video. I only have one bottle on the final lists. Congrats on 100K and thanks for the entertainment.
Awsome top 10 guys. 🥃
Great lists guys!
Nice picks! A bit challenging to get through but well worth it. 🤯
Great video!! 👍
What a list! Great top ten guys. Wow Gatsby coming in high for Sean, surprised but kinda not surprised.
Agree with Bardstown being ranked higher than ECBP.
Very good video. I just got the Disco 8. Apparently, I need to get into that bottle. Is it backup bottle worthy?
The Discos have to be the best readily available bottles out there. So I can’t get EVERY top tier bottle but I can always find Disco. That and Four Gate if you’re willing to splurge
Keep drinking them guys its always good info and entertainment.
I haven’t watched you 2 knuckle heads for a bit, this bottle lite stage is legit
Also, I just scored a WLW from my local store in their year end draft. Can't wait to get into it
I loved that Woodford. Wasn't able to try most of these others. ECC922 hasn't hit Colorado yet as far as I know. SMH Good stuff guys!
1:52 new t-shirt design
You guys hit the 100k subscribers!! Congrats! I love your reviews and my wife even loves you guys and she HATES when I watch bourbon or cigar reviews!!! She said you guys are idiotic and that is a compliment from her!!! Lol. Keep up the great work fellas
“It’s just too much whiskey to drink”…said no one ever!! 😂😂
Let’s not push it…. I effing love you guys.
Great job!
Has the fable and folly improved since first opening the bottle? I was surprised it ranked so highly in the low proof since you guys didnt seem too impressed with it when you first cracked it open. LLS has a bottle for $150 and I'm on the fence about it so would love to get your take on it after its had some time to breath.
Glad that the Gatsby made it in! I loved mine when I tried it, and was second guessing myself a lot after all the hate
High expectations for $270.
Huge congrats on 100k
Thank you!!
I currently have 4 WT12s in my collection I feel like I should go clear off the shelf and buy more at less than $50 a bottle. (I currently live in Japan)
It's 120 euro in Europe in
Right now. And still buying it!
I feel so much better for buying that Gatsby for $270 now. At least it blinds well for some. Phew. I did love it a lot, but haven’t had the privilege to try most on this list, so maybe that would change. For what I own, it’s a hitter and one of the best allocations I’ve gotten.
Some of us can only dream of these fancy bourbons.
Would love to see you do this video again in a week or so to see if anything changes. My palate seems to change regularly, making my whiskey adventure even more exciting. Blind tastings can really blow your mind at times. :)
That coy hill is crazy hard to find and expensive!!
Good reviews guys . Great lighting. Love your back wall.and.uplights. Thoroughly confused by the process though lol. Glad you ditched Calumet 16. I paid good money for that... awful herbal, medicinal bomb imo.
Nice job.
I could swear you mentioned Punchers Chance in a video, but I can't find any mention. I do see Blue Run High Rye on your shelf, worth it at $119?? Love the videos!
great video
Good video
This video hurt. I just got back from a trip to Detroit. Picked up a bottle Bardstown fusion #8 and passed on several discovery #8 because I could not remember the reviews. I can’t find any Bardstown in missouri
Any chance you’re going to do a review video of the WT 101 12 year? I know it’s a hard to get for you folks but given I live in Canada 90% of what you review is impossible for me to get anyway. As a huge 101 fan I’d love to see one.
Wish yall had stagg b18 and the new phc, want to see where they would have ended up
Have you guys had the opportunity to try Koval’s Bottle in Bond Rye? I think it’s an absolute hitter
S tier comparison is long pending 😁
Was this the four gate Indiana batch 22? I just scored one of these for well under retail. Excited to crack it.
Should have kept the cameras rolling a few more minutes, I wanted to hear tasting notes on the 2022 Top 10 Blend that Dan was concocting at the end there!
Looking back. You missed on the Weller 107
So sad you took out OKI batch 1.... not surprised with the winners though - all hitters!
Surprised Stagg Jr. 16 didn't make it and that Calumet 16 didn't make top 10! Great video guys!
Stagg jr. 16 was released in 2021. So they couldn't put it in this years blind. They didn't get it to review until 2022.
@@davida130 Wow. I totally knew this and didn't even think about that. Whoops.
Did you guys get an EHTBP this year? Thought that bottle was stellar
Any mention of Shenk’s and I have to chime in. I tried a pour a few months ago, on the recommendation of the bartender at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, and I loved it more than anything else I’ve ever tried (though not technically bourbon for some reason). I spent the next 3 months trying to find a bottle, with zero luck - even on Caskers (I’d have paid the inflated Caskers price).
I recently received a 2022 bottle and it is my favourite at the moment. I also got the toasted barrel but the Shenks was better in my opinion.
@@MrWookie1981 Lucky man! I’m gonna keep searching for it, though I don’t know how likely it is for me to find a 2022 bottle at this point, in mid Jan 2023.
Hmmm, my local liquor store has the Remus Gatsby...maybe I should stretch and buy it?
Cat needs to be permanently made an honorary junky
Love the disclaimer, must of learned from It's Bourbon Night lol. People are crybabies, just keep doing what you do guys!
Man, I wanted to see how the Calumet 16 would have done for real.
Completely unrelated to bourbon.... what was laying beside/under the watch at 02:23? It's driving me nuts haha
Anyway, love the videos. Definitely help to direct my hunting better. I tend to walk in and get super sidetracked by the shelves of options.
I don’t know if I can watch you guys anymore… I thought for sure Kessler’s and Malort would have made the list this year… I mean, who are you two anymore!?!? 😂😂😂
How is the malort? I've had malort but not the whiskey.
@@sn1000k ummm if sweetens cove was made from neutral grain spirits and then watered down
Can you list the bottles from this show? I’m curious about the 4 Gates and the OKI but it’s hard to follow exactly what blends you had here. Thanks
They are on the screen buddy. Four Gate foundation 10 year and four gate kelvin 4
Thanks for watching! Maybe... Hahahaha let’s do all we can to avoid a ‘Chad and Sara’
Sad you had to make the disclaimer in the beginning after what happened to IBN. I liked your method with using blind results to make your list. Have you tried any of the Redwood Empire Cask Strengths? I tried Lost Monarch and enjoyed it very much. Curious where those would rank in your best of 2022.
Emerald giant at cask was our favorite, we're going to do a rye list and that will be on there I bet
Dan what watch are you wearing here?
Cut the Knob Creek 18? Be still my beating heart...lol
OK SO IM NOT A BIG FAN OF U 2 BUT......IM DIGGING THE BOTTLES IN THE BACKGROUND THAT ARE LIT UP!
VERY CLASSY
That new set really turned out nice 😊
I have none of these lol
Disco8 worth every penny
Slammered 😅
How and where can I get the individual bottle Illuminating lights?
They made the shelves themselves with a led lit puck put flush into the shelf
They show them making it in the castle update video too. Go check it out!
czcams.com/video/0YgfoVGQRI4/video.html
Really suprised KC18 didn’t make it. I thought they nailed it this year!
Are the discos really worth the price tag though?
Disco 8 was crazy good, 9 had a little more dickle note on it for us but was still great. We still pick them up regularly for $150 and don't mind paying it.
Maybe people would be satisfied if you only reviewed bottom shelf whiskey🤣😂the point In watching about high end whiskey is the satisfaction when i find a super cool bottle you guys review and i get so excited i prefer this to not ever even hearing about the good stuff
I would have liked to see you guys actually do some of these blinds.
It would have been a 30min video minimum
@@BourbonJunkies For sure!
The Wild Turkey and Bourye are the only non-cask strength options on the lists. Would LOVE to see a comparable test in which each was proofed to 90. MOST people who drink bourbon do not drink it regularly above 90 proof (most under 80 tbh), so how a bourbon tastes at a proof where people actually drink it is MORE important than how it tastes out of the bottle.
This is a great idea! I love a good high proof, but I also like sharing, and the folks I tend to gather with would rather have something a bit more tame.
under 80 isnt bourbon.
@@CL-ty6wp few of my friends will touch straight bourbon over 90 proof. They will have it with water, or on a big rock of ice. And if most people drink bourbon diluted with water, shouldn't taste tests compare it at that concentration rather than bottle strength?
@@blakestah water in whiskey? Just drink cheap vodka.
@@blakestah Why should anybody feel compelled to pander to the masses? "It's popular" is NEVER a reason to do ANYTHING.
I have to find a bottle of Wild Turkey 12
I want to know how Dan's blend at the end tasted...
Love seeing reviews of whiskey that we'll never see on the shelf or in local bars. Looking forward to the top 10 available list.
Need to get y’all some 13th colony double oaked
I do believe that they have one ☝️
Best bottle lists regardless of price are so much better than " best under 20 " or whatever for the poors.
Top 10 unobtanium list
Mmmmmm……..Let’s not push it 😂😂😂
Was the four gate Indiana the 10 year or 14?
How else will I know if I really want to try something or seek it out and pay for it if the people who have access to these hard to find items don't tell me which ones are worth it?
Wt12 def
Guys please tell me where you get those lighted bottle stands? Sorry, don’t know what to call them, but their awesome.
We made them!
They show them making them in the castle update video! Go check it out!
czcams.com/video/0YgfoVGQRI4/video.html
@@lukstephens1 Thanks. I appreciate it
You guys rock ! What's going on this year? IBN had to record a follow-up video due to some cry babies.
Just people being upset at them for their list, which we thought was a fantastic line up.
What's going on? I'd say increasing interest in the bourbon world further limitimg supply and regional availability coupled with high inflation. Add to that the growth both channels have seen in the last year so as they break out of the niche audience and into a more mainstream one, value becomes more of a concern to an audience that, as a percentage, becomes less "enthusiast", and more "casual participant". Imagine the grief Motor Trend would get if they said the best cars every year were always a Bugatti, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Pagani, etc. If you want to grow the audience you have to appeal to a wider crowd and that means taking value and availability into consideration, but not going so far as to lose your core values and become a Jim Murray / Whiskey Advocate. I think separating lists into "best thing I had all year" (no consideration for value allocation) and "whiskies of the year" (value and availability considered) is the best way to please the most people.
