- This is like part 3 of my Yamaha HPDI outboard motor service. I'm installing a New water pump this time. So I hope this help you on installing your new water pump. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Thank you so much for doing these! You have been a wealth of information!
Great video! A couple of short cuts I use is #1 put small dabs of super glue on the O rings to hold them in place and #2 put a tie wrap around the impeller to hold the fins bent in the proper direction and the cup easily goes down, cut the tie wrap and remove. I also purchased a split bearing puller to help remove the compression ring that you cut off. I beleive in working "smarter not harder".
There is always a different way to skin a cat. As long as you got the job done! Work smarter not harder....
The super glue won't eat through the gasket? I love the zip tie trick for the impeller. We change impellers as a club so there's a lot of extra hands usually, but that's a great idea for doing it alone.
I've never had a problem using superglue sparringly, just a little in the bottom of the O ring groove. I usually work alone. I've also been trained and experienced in Analytical troubleshooting and root cause analysis.@@warpath6717
Once again one of your videos was extremely helpful for me. I saved myself quite a bit of money replacing the water pump on my Yami VMAX 250 I have. Honestly I found the replacement to be a lot easier than I thought. Once again thank you.
You Welcome!
Best video on youtube on how to change an impeller for a yamaha. Thank you sir.
Awesome video! Thats how stuff gets fixed on the farm. You make do with the tools you've got.
Great vid. The stainless ring can be pried up incrementally with a flat screw driver. It will slide up and over the shaft easily.
One other point to mention is that the shaft should be pulled upwards (and held) while pressing the metal cap into its locking position - this procedure is required to reduce the play of the pinion on the drive gears.
thanks for the video. I had a buddy once who used to say "you gotta think like your in the desert and this is all you got to work with"good job sir
Thanks for the comment and the thumbs up on the video. It's more than one way to skin a cat, right?
Closed face wrench that will slip over shaft and tap the retainer ring down with a hammer hitting the wrench works
Thanks for the video I'm going to change mine. Boat shops have lost their damn minds on the prices they charge anymore
You got that right. That’s why I do all my own work. If I mess it up to bad then I will take it to the shop.
You gave me the confidence to do this. I'm like you I don't have all the correct tools. I destroyed my nylon washer and metal ring as well. I found a 15/16 open end wrench worked perfect to hit on to knock it back in place.
That is the only way you will learn. By doing it yourself. If you mess it up after you tried to fix it. Then you take it to the shop and let them fix it then. Good luck.
You should have seen that wear plate. I won't mention any names where I took it but it looked like it had been ran over on I-285 and reused. We have time same rig and close to the same color. Mine is '05. I think we aren't too far away from each other I'm on the west side of Atlanta maybe I'll run into ya or we can prefish or something together. I do bass clubs as well.
rip rap I’m on the west side too. Are you fishing any FLW tournaments? Next week is the first one on Lanier.
The BassHunter I did a couple of those years ago as a non boater when it was red man. I love Lanier and I do pretty well there but I've just been doing buddy tournaments. My buddy that works up that way said 6 mile was real muddy. The lake is almost full. I haven't seen 6 mile muddy in years. I try to go up there a good bit during the week from March till June. Our first club tournament is in a couple of weeks at Bartletts ferry. My kids are out for winter breaks next week I think we are going to take a long weekend to eufaula this weekend. I hope it's not blown up too bad.
Liked your video. One comment, on tapping in the key, if you have a hammer with a plastic head use that to prevent distorting the top of the key.
Just use a pair of pliers that's the easiest way
Use a little bit of grease on the o ring never use any RTV.Other than that pretty good job sir
There was absolutely no need to cut the metal bushing as it can be pried off without too much effort and without the aid of any specialized tool; all those components are re-usable when putting them back together. Same criteria applies to the woodruff key unless it was severely distorted on removal.
Fulvio Gianola Good advice! There was a new one in the kit. So I went for the quickest way to get it off. Thinks for the advice and I hope others see this.
Great video. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for spending the time doing this.
smorrow0816 You are welcome. I hope it help some people. Thanks for the comment.
Good info, I'm about to do a water pump replacement myself.
It's not that bad of a job. You just need something to hold the lower unit. Good luck.
Great video, but you should grease the bolts and the key when you re- install.
Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you great video
Excellent video and information. Everything we needed to know.
Marilee Wamsley Thanks for the great comment.
You have no idea how much it helped. We are in Mexico and bought a bought that has these outboards and they need maintenance. Had the parts but not sure how to proceed. New impellers now on thanks to you!
bought a boat. darn typos
Marilee Wamsley You are very welcome. That’s why I did the videos. So they might help someone. Thanks again for watching.
Good video!
Thanks for the video. Great stuff man!
Thanks for the video my friend, you helped save me some dough! 👍🏻
I glad I could help out. Good luck with the fix.
Could have used this video 5 hours ago. Nice job.
Mike Melina all man, I sorry you didn’t find me earlier. You got me know. Make sure you check out some of my videos. You might find something else you might need.
Good video, thank you!
Good video if i might just add i apply a light coat of waterproof grease on boat threads keyway and other surfaces for next time to keep them from galling. And replace the plastic housing they are dirt cheap.
Thank for the tip and the comment.
Another great video.
My wife walked by during the video and guessed your're from Louisiana?
Dan Martin No, I'm a Georgia boy.
If you apply some heat to the metal around the shaft, than you will only have to replace the plastic piece.
A new metal ring came with the kit. So, why not replace it.
Great video sir
Thanks, I was just looking at that video a few min ago myself. I'm get water in my low unit oil, now I have to replace the seals below the water pump. So that video will be coming out in the next few weeks. Thanks for the comment.
Very helpful. Thank you, sir!
RockportBob You are welcome. I’m glad the video helped.
|Great video, about to tackle this job and this gives me the confidence to do it.
Jonathan Lusk Good luck with your install.
Dang good video hand
Where did you purchase the kit that included the metal and plastic ring that you had to use the dremel to cut off? I’ve searched any have yet to find a place that includes those. Thanks for the super helpful video!
Kyle Wallace Hey man sorry for not getting back to you yesterday. I had a fishing tournament and my wife want to paint this morning. But I got the parts from www.simyamaha.com. You can find what ever you need there. If not call them. Thanks for the comment.
You should always grease your bolts before you reinstall them.
I had to order a new plastic housing for my 250 hpdi 2 stroke. when it came it did not come eith the black spacer that sits on top of the water pump. Side by side without it it about 3/16 shorter without it on it.
Hopefully they send you the right pump? I always order the kit that has all the gasket, o-rings that you need. I can’t remember the spacer you are talking about but if it came out the water pump. It needs to go back on the water pump. I would contact the people you bought it from and ask they where is that spacer?
Great video! Best I've seen . Great picture and sound, well explained. Do you think it would be exactly the same for a 2017- 150hp. Yamaha SHO
Rich The water pump should be the same or close to it.
@@thebasshunter Thanks for the quick reply!
Hy Buddy , nice vid. I've a Yamaha 150 VMAX HPDI 4 stroke 2002, and I need a lower unit for it. Any idea, once you busy and know someone selling this parts. thanks in advance.
Has anyone done this to a 200-250 SHO (VF)? I assume it's the same setup, but wanted to see if there are any gotchas.
I have the z250turb it's a 2003 250 htpi I'm looking for the nylon sleeve and metal cap were did you get them and what are they called. I've looked at the scamatics and I don't see them. Having a hard time finding them. Would appreciate your help.
R Reichel The nylon sleeve is called a water pump spacer and the metal cap is called WATER PUMP DRIVE SHAFT COLLAR. I order my stuff from www.simyamaha.com and go to parts. I hope that help.
I imagine it would be similar for a 2007 175 HPDI...? Thanks!
Eric Huber it should be but I’m not sure.
Nice. What time does your shop open? I need some freeze plugs on my old fishing truck. lol
The shop is always open. I just like to do my own wrench turning. I started a nether CZcams channel call "Michael You Can fix That". I have the boat service videos and a few more. On that channel I just fix anything and everything. Check it out if you can find it and subscribe.
The BassHunter will do. My dad is a master mechanic and has save me plenty of $.....
You should know something if your dad knows it all. That where I learned most of my stuff. From my Dad.
The BassHunter I did. I learned how to call him. Lol
what's going on? Got any fishing videos coming up?
What engine do you currently run?
I just upgraded to a 2023 Yamaha 225 and 3 months ago. I got 542 hours out of my old and lost compression in cylinder number two. I got 15 year out of the old without a problem until now. I think what kill it was the big silver filter on top of the VST was stop up and dry out cylinder number two.
I need the kit for my 2003 150 HPDI VMAX. Is there a ink for it?
BBQBOY76 Here is the web site that I use for all my parts. www.simyamaha.com and go to parts. you have to look for the motor you have.
Brand boat you run and how you like it..
I am a Ranger man. I have 2009 Ranger 208VX. Its the same body as the Ranger 520. Just for less money. I love my boat. It is just getting a little older and now I have start showing it a little TLC. So you will see all the things I will be doing to her on video. Thanks for watching.
I can't watch this!
