I think we need to have Daryll on the podcast as a guest
That would be awesome.
Agreed
Yasssss!!!
that'd be cheating. You darn airbrush cheaters!
that would be great! I feel like Daryll understands the plight of the common artist. He gets it
(nice outfit btw XD)
Ninjon: Hey there Friends
Me: Hey there Cheator
That chair spin intro gets me everytime! 🤣
I really love that goofy spin around shot in the intro.
Jon: the only minipainting youtuber that doesn't have a pot of boltgun metal.
Man, I didn't know Scott was making a cameo.
ive grown to like this channel, daryll needs his own channel
The in-chair spin from the intro kills me every time
Proudly brought to you by Crayola. Nice explanation of the method and value of oils.
Subtractive method may be my freshly learned technique.
You rock!!!!!
Dude, put some crocs on when you go outside!
I’d rather walk on rusty nails barefoot, you heathen!
I am sensing some heresy over here. Time for a purge.
Thick Grey wool Carhartt socks with crocs shouldn't be underestimated. It's how I got through the pandemic haha.
It's not just the technique that's impressive - it's the overall composition. Being able to get the colors to work together and contrast so well seems equally important as the actual brush skills. Well done!
I do love how minipainters have their own "hater-persona" :D
That's the imposter syndrome
I wanna see an Australian hype man to balance it out
I never thought of that before...interesting
wowman! you are beyond talented! beautiful work!
Great dragon sculpt 😉👍
Love it. Did not change channel when the oil showed up. Totally worth it.
I dig the choice of classical medieval soundtrack in a video about painting a dragon :)
definately needed that SWEET LUTE
The sculpt, the super easy oil blends and subtractive highlights, the combination of conventional acrylic highlights and ink filters. Absolutely great video, I learned a lot.
Just commenting to say how much i love your goofy intro fumbling and spin smile.
I love it a lot
Bloke just got away with wearing socks without shoes outside. A real alpha right there 👌
The Rune Dragon!
love the beginning of your vids, always gives me a laugh. years ago but better late than never
Awesome. Welcome to the oil club
Bruh, the colors on that final turntable shot were POPPIN
Wow! So visually striking! I love the way you’re unafraid to use unusual color combinations to get a fabulous array of colors. Great video!
You easily have the best intro on youtube. You spinning around in your chair makes me laugh everytime.
Super cool alternative painting techniques. Thanks man.
Great Color choices! Wow!
Now that, looks awesome
So many colors!
I would use an airbrush if I could, but I live in a tiny studio apartment, so a video like this is super helpful for getting started on that project I've put off.
Looking at it under the bright light: "Oh, that's nice!"
Looking at it in the final shot: "Holy crap, that is VIBRANT"
I'm impressed at how well that looks under some more regular lighting. You did an excellent job, here!
Jon is number one mini painter 🥰
Great idea laying some initial colors and lighting down before the oils. Going to try these techniques on a red dragon that’s been haunting my shelf of shame for basically forever.
Those colors are just FANTASTIC! Love the way it turned out.
Beautiful paint job! I don't have an airbrush and this makes me feel so much better knowing what can be achieved! I absolutely love the colors you chose
That was increadible Thanks for posting this.
That paint job is just simply GORGEOUS!
Awesome Dragon sheer awesomeness paint work and I’ve added it to my Facebook account page to
I love how he's already caught up to Scott in such a short time
he hearted it too haha suck it scott
Nice result
Man this into and into music is so dope! Great vibes!
I definitely wouldn't have been brave enough for a color palette such as this, but it works so well!!!! Thanks for the newly found confidence
Quality opening!
Amazing end results, great job 😀
Holy cow! Love that final result.
Really vibrant and exciting to look at. Feels almost like a chameleon dragon.
9:00 I too would like a dragon with polka dot wings.
The colors on this are beautiful, nicely painted!
Looks great! Love the result
Fair warning: Daryll is definitely going to work on his 1983 Trans Am tonight, and he'll be blaring Bad Company and Molly Hatchet on the garage's sound system until at least 3am. He only turns it up that loud so you can enjoy it too.
I have been using oil paints since I heard you and Scott talk about the Dimitri video on the podcast. I immediately bought a thing of Windsor newton oil paint starter set and I have been implementing them ever since . Oil washes are my go to washes now and the oil paint blending has really helped me with non-metallic metal since I can smoothly blend out the brightest white and the darkest dark of the Gradient.
Thanks for all your content and fun wit to keep the hobby exciting
Love how vibrant this dragon came out! Great job as always Jon!
I love your choice of colours on this miniature. It looks superb!
Gratz on the 100k, you really earned that.
That looks amazing!
That is an awesome dragon!! I’m loving your subtractive painting method!
Wow, that is a beautifull paintjob. Thank you for introducing us to oil paints, I have been a bit scared to use them, but I might try something in my next project.
Great video! I love those colors around the head/neck of the dragon!
Dude, i love your energy. I'm getting ready to start a painting channel of my own purely for the love of painting Dragons. Thanks for existing
Darrell is my spirit animal
He's currently running through my woods in short shorts, throwing a football at trees and making explosion sounds.
I've never used an airbrush on big miniatures. I'm sure it would speed up the process but I enjoy doing everything the old fashioned way. It just feels so satisfying.
I was so excited to see you pull out some oils, I'm just about to try them out for the first time and seeing your use is a great guide!
Looks awesome
Thanks for the nice video Jon, learned some new things
Already can’t wait for the next video love how to trying different methods out. Only been painting like a month and my oils turned up today looking forward to trying them
Great video Jon. I really like this approach!
couldn't tell it was 3d printed
fantastic vid as per usual
Major Step Brothers vibes from Darrel. Mans probably got drumsticks.
I never thought of trying that.
Another great video. Thanks for your content!!
This is inspiring ...thank you 💖
Such a timely subject - I was just looking to branch out from 28mm scale. Thanks for the great content!
My new 3d printer came today also!!!!! So excited to do some resin printing!!!! I loved Danny's first kickstarter and my other non resin printer did a great job for the terrain. I bought this new kickstarter as soon as I could and am super pumped to print some of the minis from both kickstarters in resin
Ended up coming out sick! Great work bro.
This would be a really awesome technique for a Krootox as well, lots of little scales and fiddly bits to catch the light 🤔
Loved it
Ser Winter? What are you doing here? Lmao
Model came out beautiful as expected. Pulled some useful information as always from the video. Keep it up.
Dude! Awesome!
This is so cool. My husband got some oil paints to try some of this out. I think I might try it too.
That is beautiful :O
This video is really helpful! I’ve collected various paints, inks, and kits for painting across a lot of types of crafting- so seeing you use oils (I have water soluble oils so I will give it try the same way) and acrylic inks (I have calligraphy/ alcohol inks would those work? ) - gives me so many ideas to use what I have and new pigments to use in mini painting
that s beautiful.
Yeah I'm gonna go +1 for more Daryl content please. Loved the video as always!
Don’t forget to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm 😁👍🏼
This is the way.
Does commenting on a comment's comment help?
Always nice to see videos showing techniques that don't require an airbrush. They're a wonderful tool for sure, but I lot of hobbyists don't have access to one, and with minis constantly getting bigger this is very useful stuff! 😄
Yet again amazing, been painting 35years and keep learning new things from your vids.
Aw I too prime my models in my socks.lol
Love the video.
The clown dragon, definitely something new :)
I have the Mono X! I love it sooooo much! I want the Photon Mono Max SOOOO BAD!
Your videos are really amazing!
Truly amazed with the brilliancy and vibrancy of the colors on the final shot. Truly impressive, reminds me of some rare deadly flower from the depths of the amazon or something. Funny how in nature most beautiful things will kill you. Another home-run, thanks for sharing and please be safe!
i rcently painted the Pathfinder Gargantuan Red Dragon without and airbrush (i don't have one) and it came out amazing
im looking at getting a resin printer soon, so excited!
Your videos are so darn fun and relaxing to watch!
even though I never played any miniature games, your whole vibe is extremely zen
Hey ninjon, i just wanted to let you know that youre awesome! Every time I see youve got a new video up, it brings a smike to my face because i know im in for something great! So thank you, and I hope you're doing well:)
Great video!
I love how the level of the videos increases consistently. Good Job :)
Jon this video is encouraging me to pick up a quick oil set to try out myself!
I audibly scared my cat with how loud i said “holy shit that’s so vibrant!” When that end shot came up.
Fantastic work! Thanks Jon!
Not into minis (yet!) but I really enjoy your channel!
Love the podcast love the videos keep on keeping on!!
