The Lab Los Angeles is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly post-work unwind where we stream only the finest American and international DJs, live and direct from our Downtown LA office.
Channeling his unique melting pot of influences both from his Puerto Rican background and his Chicago roots, DJ Sneak has made a name for himself with his funky-jackin-disco-filtered house style throughout a career that spans over two decades.
First cutting his teeth balancing the early stages as a DJ and producer with his career as an airbrush graffiti artist, he first launched his own independent label called Defiant Records before releasing some of his earliest tunes on Green Velvet's Cajual and Relief Records. His hits continued through the 90s, early 2000s and further with Magnetic Recordings, a new imprint launched to showcase new talents and honor the sound of Chicago House.
Los Angeles native Destrada is handling opening duties. His Latin heritage and California influences make him the perfect fit for this Friday night ahead.

One of the top 5 DJs that made me dance hardest back when I used to do proper dancing rather than dad-dancing. Sneak late 90s/early 00s locked you into that jacking groove. A master at understanding the bounce and grit to house music. Tracks he produced have so much naughtiness, you can't help but to move along. Then his sets incorporated the best of the jacking style of house. I love how he played/plays his mixes a little bit behind the beat...he doesn't have that exact beat-match, he lets the mix have a more organic quality with the mix shuffling together, which is really clever because it adds to the jacking sound. You notice it more when he played vinyl and was doing everything by ear. Love him. Always have, always will. Viva DJ Sneak!

I seen Dj Sneak spin in Toronto in 1999 and that was one of the best house sets I've ever heard. The way he mixed and cut this magic feet type of beat he killed it that night

This set really finished so strong with a few huge classics like Respect and Work it to the Bone!!!

After the 1 hour mark it's good.
I wasn't feeling it until 11:45 - not into the "chipmunk" voices in the first mix. Once the funky groove kicked in, I was hooked.

I saw him in London in Oct. 2015 and he was really disappointing. Really dull and repetitive, zero vocal samples. If he'd done a set like this it would have easily been one of my favourite nights that year. Maybe he's one of those really inconsistent DJs?
