    Good video. One note about the outlet side of you Nexus. You mentioned if there's a blockage "on the output side," the water would return via the vertical standup pipe back to the center. Well... not exactly. The overflow outlet is actually used if the center portion gets blocked. This is more likely to occur in the event you're not cleaning the Nexus enough and the water being pumped into the filter cannot work its way through the clogged media in the center. In that case, the water would rise up until it does overflow the filter, which in your case would eventually empty your pond. This is the most dangerous scenario with a pump-fed filter system and a pond with a bottom drain. You can accidentally and completely empty your pond if the water from the filter doesn't make it back. In the case of the Nexus, if the middle portion is completely clogged, the center chamber uses this overflow pipe to return the water unfiltered back to the pond. Yes, this would be unfiltered water, but still, a better choice verses accidently sucking your pond dry. If the output pipe back to the pond gets clogged, that would actually be a very rare event, but much worse. There again, if the water cannot make it back to the pond, your koi will end up gasping at the bottom. There are several ways to insure this doesn't happen: water detection on the filter-room floor that shuts off the pump, a collection system under the filter that sumps the water back, level detectors in the pond - so when it gets too low, again... the pump shuts down, etc. This is where gravity fed systems do have their advantages, because with those systems, the flow of water to the filter would simply stop. Yes, it could also mean the return pump might run itself dry, which is not good for the pump, but still, a better choice compared to pulling all of your water out of the pond. Most external pumps have electrical thermistors built into their casings that cause them to shut down if they get too hot. This does offer a bit of protection, which is a good thing. After all... we don't want to have to choose between a pump catching fire or accidentally emptying our pond.

    Hi mate . Looking good. I have used Nexus for number of years and very happy.. i struggled a bit with 75lt air pump and upgrading to a 90lt made a masive difference. So much so I now think the 75 is too small for the nexus.
    Boiling for cleaning is now perfect. Wish I had changed up years ago .

    Not sure if anyone has said about the back flush in the comments. But once the middle has emptied, remove the cleaning pipe. It will remove a load more muck and clear the kiss points etc. Also a lot of people put Jap mat in the outlet chamber, to collect any fines. Works well tbh. Great in depth review on the filter though 👍

    Hi mate, great video. I picked up a 210 really cheap and already had a cetus sieve so I am really impressed with the performance. I do clean a 2 cycles daily if I can but that is equally about water change to be honest (pond 2500 gallons). As Eden Koi says I quite enjoy being out there and cleaning also put water on the flower beds/lawn so win win.

    Excellent video 👍 not many people know you don't have to have the outlet at pond level and even EA themselves say you have to have the outlet above the pond I guess they know nothing lol 🤣. Just one more thing If you find your getting a problem with blanket weed in the summer you could always add a pump fed only sieve filter above the 220. Pump to sieve gravity to nexus and gravity again to pond, a bit like what "koi chronicles" does with his eazypod. 👍👍

      I also think it's because it's pump fed as it has the outlet pipe in last chamber will I don't think gravity has
      So I guess the water level depends on the height of that pipe?

  • @kroneditor9266
    @kroneditor9266 Před rokem +1

    Good video but just one observation. I thought it was recommended to have the UV on the return side not input. I have never seen this configuration before but maybe it isn't so important with pump fed as opposed to gravity.

  • @LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection

    You can definitely the difference in water clarity. The nitrate .. have you tested your tap water? I have a lot of nitrate in my tap...
    The high nitrate is often due to the lack of anaerobic bacteria, which you can only achieve with good porous ceramic media to colonise inside media. Which plastic media cannot achieve . It's the only thing that will eat the nitrates. Plants help slightly but you need sometimes like 5 times the size of the pond to be really effective. But any plants will help a bit. Have you considered putting a shower?
    Good video, I enjoyed it.
