Jakob Winter Word. it was in 94. And James has admitted that he used to be very closed minded about a lot of bands in the late 80s and 90s and he harshly criticized them. As he got older he began appreciating the fact those bands admired his and learned from him. And you right being around Jerry and hanging with him says a lot. Says it's past them, so I agree with you. Why are people holding grudges for other people? lol.
James was far from the first and I doubt he will be the last one to make an ignorant comment that they later regret

Jerry is an awesome lead guitarist and singer as well. Why wouldn't they allow him to play the lead guitar part or solo in the song, or at least sing one of the verses?

Jerry gets invited to play a lot by his friends from various bands. Imagine if he had to fully learn all their music.
I think it's because Jerry is also a great singer and Metallica, being as awesome as they are, wanted to highlight that.

Jerry wrote most of Alice's Music, even today he does. Jerry is the soul of Alice In Chains, you may disagree with me but it's cold hard fact. Jerry wrote most of the Music while Layne wrote most lyrics but Jerry has a beautiful voice to harmonize, I still think Jerry is the master since he is the soul of Alice.

Most of the complainers are new fans who try to get cred by mouthing off, or were not a fan in the 80s and wished they lived through the classic era. I have lived and breathed classic Metallica for what 30 years now, and now I am digging the new stuff. I am sorry those people were born to late to enjoy it when it was new, but I want to hear what Metallica is doing next, not do a rehash of Justice. As long is it is heavy, well played and does not have the word Load in it, I am happy!

That was a bullshit edited video of James taking a shot at Jason Newstead for writing a don't they performed. The fans loved Jason but knew the band gave him a lot of shit. Someone edited it to stir up shit. Look up the actual video of James saying "he's cooler than we all thought". Jerry and James have been friends for decades.
The album "Death Magnetic" and song "Child of Babylon" are both dedicated to Layne as well.

@metalikaz Yes, I was mistaken. I was thinking of that footage of James playing it by himself on the Year and Half DVD. Anyway, I think he SHOULD play the intro because it's his song. Kirk never played a note on the actual recording.

Funny true story...At my wedding in 2005 my wife and I were supposed to do our first dance. It was supposed to be an Eric Clapton song. It started to play and then bllurrrp Nothing Else Matters from S and M came on. I thought my wife had played a joke on me and she thought I'd payed the DJ to do it. I'm a huge Metallica fan and anyone who knows me knows it. My family kept asking me if that was on purpose. The DJ didn't know what happend and to this day we still don'tk know.
