Having that fork at an angle makes SO MUCH sense, and I never thought of it. I'm also really interested in the process of fire making and hardening. Thank you!
Side note: you are a wonderful role model for me to share with my kids, especially my daughter (11 yr old). I am but one example of woman and strong. In this, the more the merrier!
She has started talking of exploring areas on her own when she is older, and I want NOTHING to stop her in whatever she wants. I'm from a background where I was painfully aware of my vulnerability as a young woman. The type of independence I want available to her, I honestly don't think I've ever reached. I missed that opportunity. Thank you, THANK YOU, for being an example I can't honestly give her.
We BOTH learn from you. Who knows? Maybe there's a "Mom and Daughter" trip in our future... 😉

Lacking a fire you can heat the tip the same as you did with your bow drill fire kit. Rubbing the point against another piece of wood will heat the wood enough to harden it. Also it will smooth the point making for easier wound entry. Fire is quicker if you have it.

You should have added a clear warning: Robinia is toxic - so be careful!
If I remember correctly, the bark of the robinia makes excellent cordage. Thus, you would not have needed the roots. Might be worthwhile to make an extra video: creating cordage from robinia (if I'm not mistaken).

If you find that right stick, and you have the time you can cure it in your attic. Let it sit there for one year and the heat will dry it out and harden. The American Indians would bury them, but you have to have the right type of wood for this. Thanks for the great video and knowledge!

"Against cougars and bears" ;DDD I think it's okay if you climb on a tree and keep the bear from reaching you. However, a bear is hardened against powerful bear claws and it will be very hard to make any damage with it. What I've learned recently is to run downhill because bears are very front heavy and they tip over so they avoid it. So in regions with bears it's clever to build your shelter on a slope with space to run downhill.

A fire-hardened spear is more effective if you first flatten out the point to make it more blade-like before hardening it in the fire. It can still be left thick, just not round. You will get much better penetration that way.

Hi Lilly. I've been making slings forever, saw your spear and reminded me of a Staff Sling. I made a prehistoric one 20 inches long with a one piece Paracord woven sling. The notch at the end is so the loop doesn't slide off behind you. When you throw it the loop comes off the smooth side of the stick. Watch a video of them in action. Much more power then the sling by itself. 💪
