Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
Any time, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Merry Christmas to you, Lilly!
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas! Just wondering what jacket is that you have in the video ? I want a wool jacket with a big hood like that
Fun fact: Bucket makers don't use pine pitch. If the wood is dry and the bucket leaks, soak the bucket in water, the wood will swell and close up small cracks. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷
Excellent work! Such a bottle could be useful in quite a few situations, as you mentioned. About ten years ago, when I was helping a friend of mine build cigar box guitars, he and I discussed the possibility of using such an inexpensive primitive musical instrument as a bug out kit. We thought about using carbon fiber material for the body of the guitar to make it durable, lightweight, and weather resistant. Basically, the guitar would be a box with a hinged lid, in which a small alcohol stove, bottle of fuel, lighter, and a few other items could be stored for a weekend getaway, and once everything is unpacked, you can also play yourself a few songs by the campfire.
Great simple idea and use for pine resin, and when its when its no longer good will make a great fire torch, would have been nice to see some slow motion shots pouring though. Merry xmas and I hope you get snow soon!
Don't forget that its still possible to carry water in the upside down skull of your enemy. 😁
Thanks Lilly. Great pup, got a few here as well.
😂
I saw someone do this on another channel but he used it filling with water to expand the wood to seal it. Like they do on wooden boats. Very useful video, thanks.
Amy must be part termite LOL. I loved her reaction to when the fire was lit. She knew the warmth was coming
I am watching this a second time, largely to watch Amy's antics, trying to save branches from the fire lol
As I was watching I thought that I might like to experiment with just splitig the log once and using embers to hollow it out...??? I really enjoy your channel. Thank You! :)
Very cool. I can always count on you to make an attempt at something and show me the results; good, bad or ugly. It's enjoyable to virtually hang out with you while you hone your skills and learn new things. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Lilly!
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Lilly. Thank you for all your hard work bringing us these videos. Keep’em coming! 🏕🎄🐶❤☃
14:23 The puppy only sees toy-sticks: building a fire out of toys, making a container from toys, and concocting pitch glue collected at the tip of a toy; so excited and confused that you'd spend so much time on a toy, "Just break it off and throw it".
We loved log water container as kids really nostalgic
Great work. To make something leak-proof out of all natural materials is impressive. I also liked your honest assessment of the return on investment and its priority in an actual survival situation.
Nice job! spreading the pine pitch between the sections works better to seal the container. An alternative method is to burn out the cavity using hot coles and a hallo branch, stem or something similar as a tube to blow through and direct the burn and keep the cole hot. scraping the chard spots between coles speeds up the process. be careful not to use toxic wood. to boil water line a hole with hidel. clay or anything nontoxic to hold the water fill with water and drop heated rocks until boiling. be careful picking rocks, porous ones will absorb water and can explode while heating.
forgot to mention using clay or just water can help direct the burn if it gets too close to the sides.
My Dad was in the desert but his canteen had a hole in it so he tossed it in the garbage at the first stop at the trading post. Dad popped in and bought supplies and the guide was worried when he saw him throw his canteen away. They were doing a geological expedition in Death Valley.
So at the next stop after 30 minutes of hiking. My dad digs through his rucksack and pulls out his chemical cold pack and puts it into his rucksack while everyone was taking a sip of their hot water. After 10 minutes my Dad pulls out his first ice cold beer. After another 45 minutes of more hiking and looking at rocks they have another stop. More hot water for everyone my Dad activates another cold pack and 10 minutes later is enjoying another ice cold beer. Weak cold American beer but it is much better than hot canteen water. At the third stop Dad activates his last ice pack then drank his third beer and passed the other three around to everyone else. Everyone agreed my Dads solution was much better. Dad said the ice pack in the rucksack kept him nice and cool too. He made a lot of new friends on that excursion.
Great for woodcraft practice!
A loggers wedge, like a blunt chisel, could be a tiny feature at the guard or pommel of your personally designed knife series.
Lilly, you are a proper survival Gal. You could have been a proper trapper in the USA or Canada back in the day.
Congratulations Lilly! You're gonna hit that 1 million subscribers soon!
Love the dog, a stick provides a lot of entertainment. Good video
Part of survival is making sure you're not making excess noise. Metallic gear can give away your position. Stay safe and Merry Christmas.
that depends on your situation. in war or in areas with a lot of big dangerous predators (though i suppose many of those would more likely be scared off by that), yes. when you get lost on, say, a mountain in austria, not so important. i suppose she usually carries her water bottle with her and in a situation where being noisy is a risk, she'd be especislly careful not to use gear she'd have to loudly replace 🤷🏻♀️
Well done. Next time look for a Gum tree.. When you find one cut near the base of the tree. The cut a section two times the length of you knife. Gum trees grow hollow. So take the Gum barrel and scrape the inside clean. Then make a wooden plug for each end. The end plugs have to be smooth and tight. Yes !!! 1972 Boy Scouts rule
I'm guessing it's a very similar technique to making a wooden barrel the cordage taking the place of the metal rings that hold a barrel together. So you made a mini barrel 👍
You could use heated up pebbles to put inside to boil the water, just a thought. When I was younger I found a Navajo pottery which could hold a little over a gallon of water for transport. The bottom of the vase was covered with pinion pitch which would make it water proof. Love watching your videos…Merry Xmas..
Merry Christmas, Lilly!!! Hope you and your family have a happy and blessed day.
This is definitely a time consuming task. Best thing is to look for that piece of perfect wood when gettin your fire wood. Set it off to the side. Process you firewood and you can split that n set it back aside. When things are set up and you are relaxing, then you can whittle some more. Be able to spend more time on the cordage. When I made my first one I was told I did great following orders. Now see if I can figure out why it leaks. 🤣. When I split the wood at the start, I made that end the bottom. So the hatchet had smashed the wood leaving more of a gap for leaking.
About the 6th one I got it right. Then I used the pitch glue on the inside. Skinny smear stick and fill the crack. Just don’t use the pitch with poop in it. Grind grass for the binder filler. Love the video. Keep them coming
You did great! I hope I never have to use one of those but at least I now know that it is NOT impossible. You're a great teacher Lilly! Thanks so much and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄❤🎄🎁🎄🎁🎄 🍾🥂
PS. Are you going to give us a baby? That would be something special! 🍼🤰👨👩👧😁
Not everything that we try works, and it's good that you show that. Thanks for sharing this knowledge with us. :)
Agreed. It takes honesty, humility, and integrity to show your mistakes, and then how you overcome them. We are all better off for it. You teach more than bushcraft and survival. Perseverance. In one so young. Thank you Lilly.🎄
A GREAT hands on presentation Lilly !! Always good to see you and your smiles. Stay safe ....Michigan, USA
Excellent! Complete with Lilly's Patented Deer poop sealer!
I think this would be better used for storage other than water, found berries, fire starting materials( since it always rains when I'm in the woods🤣) etc. But great video for sure. Merry Christmas to you as well, and be sure to give Amy a belly rub from all of us here in the U.S.
Great job, Lil! Now that bottle is worth $110..00, at the sporting goods store...
Hi Lilly, Just wanted to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and (hopefully!) a wonderful 2022!
🌲🎅😇
This was so cool, and definitely not something I would have thought of. Great video as usual my friend. Wishing you a safe and blessed Christmas ~ Tschuss ~
Btw ~ Still loving both of the knives I've bought from you, they are awesome!
Es ist schon erstaunlich, was du alles als Ueberlebensfrau machen kannst.
Merry Christmas to u too, going back to basics huh?
If you ever find yourself out in the woods and need to boil some water. You can find you a not rotten tree downed, Carve a bowl in the side of it. Find you some rocks and heat the rocks up Put your water in the bowled part that you carved in the log put the hot rocks in it. It will boil that water. Keep boiling for a bout a min. or 2 and then let cool. Then you can fill up your make shift canteen. Use some sticks to pick up the hot rocks from the fire. Don't place the rocks directly in the fire, create a coal bed I found is the best way to heat them up. Try this out. Get good at it. and when you need it. You'll know it. For those of you that don't already know this technique. Let me know what you do?
Merry Christmas Lily !
Q: Define "emergency water container." A: One that is partly made out of deer poo.
Always a great wilderness survival tip, I can't wait to see the next episode. Good nativity
Excellent video again thanks, hope you and your family have a fantastic Christmas 🎄, take care and stay safe 👍.
I've seen several of these videos where these containers are being made and you're the first one to use your commonsense and seal it with pine tar :) .
Merry Christmas mate. Thank you for all of the help and advice that you have given over the years.
Amy was really trying to help you with that fire and I love that knife of yours
Merry Christmas ⛄🎄Lily and Amy ❤️👍🌲🇨🇦☃️
Here in Michigan there are areas with stone outcropping where Native Tribes carved water catching pools. An example on Public access land would be Petroglyph on Germania Road, near Marlette, Mi. The trail loop is only about a 1/2 mile but one can see several water catching pools carved into the stone.
If you go when an officer is present, the gate to the Petroglyphs will be opened and the officer will explain the stories told on the stone.
SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK !!!!! I WATCHED ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS IN THE PAST, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU DISAPPEARED?? GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK
Merry Christmas all followers !
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Awesome method, especially the sealing.
Lilly, you are absolutely brilliant. I enjoy your videos and always looking forward to the next one. I live in Montreal, Canada. If you ever come this way, please let me know. I would be honored to meet you. Dave & The Girls.
Your dog is so cute and inquisitive.
Excellent, love your coat.
Thank you and Merry Christmas Lilly!
Nice idea ! Supersize it for a permanent storage vessel! Merry Christmas Lily❗
I've enjoyed this video a lot. Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas, Lilly
No offense but Amy is the best part of your video! She's adorable and soooooo helpful! LOL
Great job on that container! That pine resin works like hot glue, nice to see!
Amy was very eager to help, also...
:-D
Thx for the vid!
Frohe Weihnachten!
:-D
Very cool Lilly! As soon as you started with a log, I wondered if you might use that technique. Except for the sealing, that was almost cut for cut one of Nate's techniques for making a small rocket stove, so a good dual use process,Lol.
Happy Holidays to all!
Try putting a little pine-glue just inside the edges of the splits before you put them together. Then smear the glue on the seams as you tie it together.
Great video, Thank you Lily
I love seeing your dog in these videos.
It's a skill to have. Merry Christmas!
Hi from Syracuse NY USA my friend and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures
Very cool Lilly. I will have to try this sometime with my sons. But also cool is your jacket/hoodie. Would love to find one like for my wife. Have a great day.
Perfect. Thank you!🎄🎄🎄
Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video! You work so hard. Thanks for all U do! Merry Christmas! And, God Bless!
You can always fill the water bottle half way with water and half with pea and it’s fine to drink.
Another way to seal it is leaving it submerged so the wood would swell and seal the gaps on his own.
Around my area ,there would always be available trash ,unfortunately. I still love watching your dog.
A swimming cap it’s the way to go! Orange also! The Dreadlocks swimming cap!
Excellent work Lilly. 😀👍
Hey Lilly,
eine schöne Arbeit des haste toll gemacht gefällt mir. Notfalls könnte man noch Steine heiß machen um Wasser abzukochen wenn es notwendig wär. Klasse. Ich wünsche Dir ein schönes Weihnachtsfest.
Lg der Markus
Nice work. 😉
Merry Christmas everyone. 🎅🎄🌲⛄
Nice project - congratulations that you were successful!
The only thing I didn't understand: Why did you make so many (horizontal) cuts with your saw and then break the rest out with your knife? Wouldn't be only one cut per part at the bottom end enough, and then split from the top (instead from the bottom like you showed)?
Merry Christmas to you lovely Lilly and a happy new year
Merry Christmas Lilly! My wife and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year! Gott Segne, mein freund.
He Lilly, al the best for you and Amy in 2022...
I will try to make a container doe my wooden kitchenspoons...
Thkx for the tip👍💕
Hmmm, in theory it should even be possible to get that log sealed without the glue by letting the log parts swell. That would mean a much tighter ring out of willow tree or something which can hold some pressure. As soon as water is added, it will swell sealed.
Excellent work. Great idea. Waterproof wise it just takes time and if it leaks in a few weeks, its easily fixed.
I think Amy's a troublemaker! LOL
(Unruhestifter)
Lilly you are so smart and beautiful🥰👍🇺🇸, USA Tennessee 101 proper smoky mountains Tennessee👍🇺🇸❤️
Primitive love making in the woods ?? Future episodes..
Toll gemacht! Sehr sympathisch seid ihr 2.
Great job as always and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
You, are...Amazing Lilly! I could sit at your feet and take notes.
It would be pretty good for capturing water from a tarp during a rainstorm though
Merry Christmas lilly.
6:10 - 6:13 great advice for everyone in 2021 and going forwards, for the sake of humanity
I have also seen a tutorial for water container made from folded tree bark in some survival show. It would be great to see you make a video on that technique as well.
That pullover with the hood looks warm and good quality! Merry Christmas 🎄
So beautiful! Love, blessings and Merry Christmas from Ontario Canada! I love you!
I think the pitch should go between the sections like glue before assembly. I'd try it that way.
Merry Christmas Lilly ! Excellent video. I'm going to try this project soon.
Merry Christmas!!
Excellent topic. Sometimes finding water isn't as hard as transporting it and containers are always important. Great work there. Merry Christmas to You and Yours.
What an amazing video. I have never seen such a thing before. I wonder about our ancestors learning about the right types of wood species and wood condition to make such an object. So interesting.
Visit a proper museum...
Lilly, wonderful project video. You could boil water in your log canteen by finding several smooth, clean, dry stones. Heat them in the fire. When hot, pluck them up with 'chop sticks' - like twigs and drop them into the half-full canteen. Stones taken from underwater in a lake or stream might have small cracks with water inside - when in the fire they could burst. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
