I think there are no new memes/precepts because this expansion can be played standalone without having the Ideology expansion. I completely agree though that I would love to see some extra options added especially relating to children/family! Great video!
as soon as it came out I started a mechinator game, with a dirtmole xenoform. One of the first events was a 6 year old being chased by manhunter bunnies. So I unintentionally got to experience the mechanics of learning and growing up on a run where I was expecting to just have lots of robots.
I had the same thing happen in an MP game with my brother, an 8 year year old came in and was immediately hunted by a Cheetah (shrubland life) and he had both legs eaten, he survived but the run became about getting better bionics so the poor kid could stop hobbling on double peg legs.
I haven’t played this game in a long time but want to get back into it because this sounds awesome. But question: is it a mod or an official dlc that lets you preview the terrain before you pick your starting tile? Because that’s mint!
Dear Quill. You should do a KSP/Rimworld thingy. You do a playthrough with Bob and his crew and land on an unknown planet - Then it's Rimworld time for Bob and his crew!
39:35 Only 45 days? Rice contained in dry environment will last a long time in real life. Years. 1:44:44 Revenge for getting him almost killed by a lynx. 1:50:00 Roses are thorny. Anybody walking over a rose plant should have recieve a sharp hits to leg areas (Or other locomotion organs if something has a different bodytype). Every new tile would inflict such hit. Base Damage=2, Material=Wood, Quality=Growth stage (All the way from Awful for newly planted, to Legendary when fully grown). At such low base damage and poor material for edged weapons, it would basically only be a threat when wearing nothing on legs, or weak pants. Which is consistent with real roses.
Hi quill, I've heard a lot of surprise regarding the lack of intertwining between dlc's especially ideology and biotech because of all the possible memes with babies, mechs etc. From what I understand Tynan intentionally did this to ovoid a DLC pit where they all rely on each other to function at full content. I assume the Vanilla expanded folks will introduce some of this cross compat.
it makes sense, really. dlc for games should be self contained for its content and the base game. let modders work their magic for connecting them. like you said, the VE people are probably hard at work doing their thing to make it all better.
@@Riftweaver1981 I feel like that is a very misguided approach. Modding should always be an extra, people shouldn't need to mod a game to make the base game experience feel cohesive and complete. Currently, Ideology, Royalty and Biotech feel so disconnected that I feel like I installed three big mods that were all made by different people. Ideologies don't care about gene modding, pollution or imperial connections. Royalty mechanics don't care about xenotypes, nor do they have a unique ideology for the Empire. The Biotech factions also make zero use of the ideology system for their ostensibly unique worldviews, nor are any of them connected to the Empire in any way. It all feels so... janky, in a way that discourages me personally from engaging in the mechanics of multiple DLC's in one playthrough. If Tynan wants to continue developing DLC for this game, I fear we'll eventually hit a point where the lack of interaction between DLC mechanics will make it so playing with all DLC's on will make the game more cumbersome and overall worse to play.
@@paradoxicaloutcome1007 Keep in mind though that the earlier DLCs are not the "base game". Interconnectivity is great if you have all the DLCs, but for those that do not it's just wasted development time. As far as I can tell the other two DLCs did not sell all that well, so that might have affected Tynan's decision as well.
@@TripleOmega I didn't say the base game, I said "base game experience", as in the experience you get out of a game without any third party modifications. In my opinion, a game and it's DLC's are an inseperable package, and one cannot simply put them in completely different boxes. You don't need DLC's to play the base game, yes, but at the end of the day DLC's are still a part of Rimworld's official content, they are not completely seperate games. Therefore it only makes sense to me intuitively that DLC's should account for each other's features the same way it would not be acceptable if a pawn's shooting skill was completely ignored by the hit chance calculation during combat because they are not parts of the same game mechanic. I do not buy DLC's with the expectation that I am buying disconnected mods for the game, I buy DLC's with the expectation that I am buying extra offical downloadable content that is a part of Rimworld. Besides, the whole wasted development time seems like a very niche problem to have such a big impact on a game's development. Most people either buy no DLC's or buy every DLC. The amount of people who buy only one or two DLC's of a game that they enjoy, in my experience at least, are infinitesimal. If the previous DLC sold badly, I don't expect that Biotech will sell significantly more, and definitely not because of a disconnected DLC policy. Edited because of big fingers on phone screen.
I disagree with the "most people buy all or none of the DLC". I and most people I know have sharply limited budgets, we often can only have some of the DLC sp we pick and choose what we buy. Avoiding the paradox pit of *needing* all the DLC to access features and interconnectivity between DLC is imo a very good thing.
