I miss bra & panties matches. I can't stand these shows where 50% of the matches are women's matches. While there are a few women that are really talented ( Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Alexa Bliss, Hikaru Shida, Asuka, Rhea Rhipley, Io Shirai, Bayley), most of the current crop would barely get booked on an indie show if they were men, and I do not like seeing women in hardcore or HIAC type matches. It just doesn't do anything for me, and puts them at unnecessary risk for injury.

You think WCW was edgy in 2000?
How old are you? I am 38 and I can tell you nothing WCW ever did came close to WWF in that department.

      1. Al Snow's Head (head being a reference to blowjobs)
      2. 69 on the back of D-X jerseys

      12. Satanic Ministry of Darkness and crucifying SCSA
      13. The Brood entering from Hell
      14. Bossman and Gangrel being lynched
      15. Bossman killing a chihuahua and feeding it back to it's owner or interrupting a funeral to steal the deceased.
      16. The People's strudel/Big Valbowski (the Rock and Val Venis' penises)
      17. The Rock's love of "poontang pie" on the Thanksgiving special in 1999 later shortened to just "pie". So when he says he's "pie eating" in his rants he means he loves to eat pussy.
      18. Pretty much everything Mark Henry did once he was "Sexual Chocolate"
      19. No ladies from WCW posed with

As someone who lived the JCP Territory I can say the R n R Express was a Hot Act. The money they drew was proof. The money the drew with the Midnight Express was big time! With Corny and Ricky Morton providing the main mouth pieces and then the boys didn't disappoint with the action. He managed the WWF/E World Champion and Tag Team Champions.
Smokey Mountain Wrestling was the last Real Territory (ECW was map for the new age Independents) and still gets views on CZcams. Jim trained Sunny (in the business, not in life) and in OVW he helped launch the careers of Batista, Randy Orton, Brock Leaner, John Cena, MnM, Sheldon Benjamin...... He was the reason the ROH got the ABC Contract and the eventual buyout. He and Dutch are the reasons TNA had much of their success, when they did have some. He has 2 Great Podcast. I think the the thing with Vince Russo is he just has a different perspective on wrestling. I watched Kayfabe Commentaries last night with Sean Oliver & Russo and it's so insightful of Russo's thinking towards the business. Russo see wrestling as "entertainment" and clearly doesn't see any positives in a good wrestling match anymore (since the curtain was pulled back due to the internet in the late 90's). I disagree. Wrestling to me is: Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels Wrestlemania 12. I absolutely loved the attitude era and the "golden era" of the late 80's/early 90's as well as the "New Generation" era but Russo's booking and writing was one of the reasons I switched off from wrestling in the early noughties. I appreciate that Russo wanted to push the younger guys and tried to move on the old guard towards less TV time etc but I can't be having Judy Bagwell on a Pole matches, Jim Duggan finding the TV title in the trash can or David Arquette winning the world title. No not for me mate. That killed wrestling for me. Eric Bischoff (currently reading his Cash Creates Controversy book - cracking read so far) over Vince Russo for me all day long. Eric had a mind for the business, Russo doesn't in my own humble opinion.

    • @darthbigred22

You loved the Attitude era yet hate Russo? That makes no sense. "Car crash TV" is a nice way to say Jerry Springer like TV. All the heights of the Attitude era even after he left are that influence. Hart/HBK are what were in the way of it and it was obvious then as it is now.
So you were not really as old as you imply you are or you were more on the other side and hated the edgy "Attitude" era stuff like most of the WCW fans argued back then. I was a teen back then and I do recall those arguments from the brand loyal WCW fans. We (WWF fans) liked trashy stupid shows and didn't have real stars like Hogan. We'd argue back the WCW guys were old, the show was kiddie, and the only thing they had that was cool was the nWo, Sting, and Goldberg.

Mr. Bischoff owns up to many errors. However, when Mr. Turner lost power, Eric lost his power backer.
That loss of power along with making several bad contract decisions, led to the downfall of WCW.
Paul Heyman described it as choke points.
For the entertainment business you need Content, Financing and Distribution to be successful.
Bischoff lost two out of three roughly around the same time. When the NWO lost that cool factor they lost their content. When Turner lost his power, that led to WCW losing distribution.
These factors destroyed WCW. And sadly, began a two (going on three) decade drought where we, the wrestling fan, are forced to bear witness to PG Era wrestling and overpaid independent shows.
When WCW and ECW went under, it was the fans that lost.
Have you ever worked for a place where you know the right way the business needs to go but some bonehead middle management guy despises everything you come up with. But you know the guys above them would love your ideas?
Now imagine this same guy barring you from accessing anyone that would be able to do anything and forcing you to produce substandard work.
Now you know that you aren't the best, but you are pretty damn good. But because of the product you represent, you cannot gain respect. This prevents you from creating the best content. And that bonehead crushes half or more of your ideas, putting you into an impossible position.
Each and every one of us has worked in a situation like this.
Now imagine being responsible for about 1,000 human beings and knowing that this bonehead is preventing you from giving these employees the quality of life you promised them.
I would have lost my cool way before Mr. Bischoff did.
As for Mr. Russo, I do not enjoy the content he creates in general. But every once in a while he is the golden goose. The only problem is, you have to sift through the other 99 rotten eggs to find that golden one.
Not efficient and I pity the person whose job it is to do the sifting.

AOL Time Warner merges in Jan 2000. If merely ratings were all that mattered to them I would remind you that 2000 is the same year WWF opened up bidding for Raw. I am sure AOL Time Warner had more money than TNN (the network with bullriding, fishing shows, and Duke's of Hazard reruns) did. So if they just wanted a high rated wrestling show why didn't they bid for WWF who was also public by that time and would not have been able to refuse a higher offering than TNN?
      OR
It's like Eric B says wrestling was not loved by the "respectable" public. AOL Time Warner was going to kill WCW regardless if they were the top show in wrestling or not. Some of us were teens back then and remember the almost monthly hand wringing by the big news networks about how bad wrestling was for kids, women, etc.
Now if I am WWF which one would I rather want you believing? That I legit beat Ted Turner or that Ted Turner sold out and the WWF had skewed the public's perception of wrestling into a scuzzy Jerry Springer like show so much that only a few cable channels wanted it?

I get what Russo was saying and I think deep down Eric does. Nobody thinks he thinks if Buzzkill could light incense on Nitro that would have shot them to #1. That is ridiculous. He was saying standards and practices were hogtying him. If they wouldn't let him do those things what would they let him do?

    • @KHayes666

How about great in-ring matches, good storylines and elevating new stars? Russo himself admits he hates real wrestling which is why everything has to be a gimmick, swerve or pole match. Standards & practices didn't seem to hogtie Bischoff too badly when he beat Raw every week for almost 2 years.
Nowadays after Vince took a 20 year long $hit on the business, WCW 2000 seems tame in comparison but back then those of us who lived it considered it an embarrassment.

Of course there's a double standard...the industry created it for itself. If the customer thinks it is sport, because it is presented as sport (Hey there were 83 greatest nights in the history of our sport), then it has to be programmed as sport. Add the layer that WCW as owned by its network, and of course that standard would be enforced. I'm not saying they are right to do so. I'm just saying it isn't the hardest mystery to solve.
