Muir Woods // Running in the Redwoods

- The day after skiing in Crater Lake National Park we went for a 24 Mile run on some of the most beautiful trails in Northern California. From redwoods, to mountain top views, and scenic beach this run provides a kaleidoscope of ever changing scenery. The smell of the ocean and the abundance of oxygen must also have had a calming effect on Matt and Christof. It took all the best impatient looks and gestures to get them out of the cafe and off the beach back into the mountains.
Absolutely love this channel, to the point where 8 months ago it inspired me to start running. I have hiked, rock climbed with the odd bit of mountaineering for years now, but never ran at all..Mediocre amateur was the kick up the arse I needed and now I can comfortably run 10-15 miles on trails and I improve with every run..Please dont stop making these videos!
Same! I never realized how fun trail running could be!
These guys literally motivated me to do the south kaibob to bright angel trail in the grand canyon! After doing that trail and trail running it, I immediately knew why Danny and Co. trail run! It is absolutely one of the most addicting things in the world!
saaame
God bless you brother! Way to take charge to improve and enjoy your life to the max! You have my admiration and envy!
When Matt said “Ok guys, you know you wanna be here”, I felt that
Laughed out loud at "this goes against everything I believe"
"Ugh...we get here and Christof and Matt are just frolicking" - what a great quote.
I don’t watch you guys because of the pain and suffering, your physical abilities are beyond my comprehension. I watch because of the camaraderie of good friends, the amazing scenery, and the respect you show for each other and our planet.
"like a dog set free"
Danny needs Christof like how a fish sandwich needs non alcoholic beer.
Matt's final kick to beat Christof was epic. A true champion.
Next weekend, you guys should do a quick day trip and run the entire Appalachian Trail!😂
I can’t wait until they sprint up Mt Everest and then get B-Roll of the summit from the helicopter 😉
🤣🤣
They’ll have pizza and soda delivered to them along the way
You guys are awesome. I actually met Aaron and Chase in a trailhead parking lot a few weeks ago. They were so cool and nice to me. Thanks to the whole Mediocre Amateur crew for not only being an inspiration but also being solid, good dudes.
I hope these guys (and Chase and Aaron fully realize how inspirational these videos are to people like me and many others around the world. I’m 72 and have been working out at Planet Fitness since July of last year. I’ve lost over 15 lbs and have been hiking sections of the A/T and other trails as well. At my age and condition, I know that I can never trail run like these guys, or ski etc. But just watching the videos has been so great and I know that they have contributed to me getting outdoors and explore all of the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains where I live.
Plus, they are funny to watch and the outdoor scenery and videography is incredible.
Keep going lads and bring us more adventures. 💪🤘.
Picked up my first pair of trail running shoes last Sunday because of these guys. Used to run only when someone larger was chasing me
@@gmckemie4281 I got mine when I started hiking last summer. Altra Lone Peaks. Just hiking for me. No trail running I’m too old to run I couldn’t even run when I was their age. Too much running in Air Force basic training 50 years ago. lol.
From one veteran to another it looks like you are doing it right. Enjoy your retirement; I still have about Five to go. There is so much to see and so much to do. Staying in shape enables a lot of options
@@gmckemie4281 thanks so much. And back atcha. Thanks so much for your service. Retirement is great. You have a lot to look forward to. All the best from East Tennessee.
The lunch break brought on a flashback to "The Haute Route" once Christof joined Danny ;-) What amazes me is how Christof can run after eating a full lunch - that in itself is a feat not acknowledged by most!!!
It’s just one of my unique skills:)
Is it just me or this was the most unusual episode cause it was full of greenery and some beach shots 😁
Just what I needed to totally turn the cloudy day here into a pumped up day. 👊👊👊
Definitely a type 1 heavy one
What is this blasphemy? Big lunches! Beach frolicking!! Looks like it was a lot fun, great vid as always.
Any chance you could post your gear of choice for these kind of adventures? I’ve finally graduated from standard hiking to trail running and I’m hoping to pack lighter than my old setup.
Also big thank you to this channel, I’ve lost 100 pounds over 2020! Big part of it was discovering a love of the outdoors and finding huge inspiration from this channel! Giant thank you for posting your adventures, it saved my life
Congrats man! I love hearing success stories, esp from 2020. The outdoors is healing in so many ways; keep enjoying it!
They have a gear review channel called extra mediocre
@@samuelpinkerton209 thank you!
Great to see grown successfull men in better shape than most teenagers. Enjoying their time with friends doing sports is amazing.
I f*ckin love this channel man, something about the atmosphere just makes me so relaxed and happy
Why this channel doesn’t get 500k+ followers? Such good videos!!
This was funny and probably my favourite episode ever
I totally saw you guys! I was riding up between Pantoll Ranger station and the amphitheater and saw you coming down. Epic day, cool video!
New shirt “summon the power of your fish sandwich”
Going in the Pacific for a swim is the craziest thing I’ve watched MA do. And y’all do a lot of crazy. Went to Muir Woods a few years back. Truly is magical. Like elves or leprechauns will spring out. Loved seeing it again.
Way to get back into running Uncle Christof hope it felt good. As usual, you guys are the brightest people on the trail!
Totally AWESOME!!
This is amazing! I love all of it. Woods, beach, lunch!
Stunning! Also very funny and entertaining. Thank you so much.
Wow......gorgeous scenery on a perfect day. Makes me homesick for my old California Redwood stompin grounds.
I LOVE Mt Tam and the areas around the bay. So easy to be amazed.
You know what’s really amazing and what keeps me watching? Doing all of this, enjoying the great outdoors with your friends. All of those good hearted taunts and traveling far and wide to suffer together.
Great adventures, cool videos, friendship stoke
Awesome video such cool scenery! Loved the mid run lunch break 😀
So glad you guys were able to experience this beautiful area in California
Danny: you guys need to revive Blake for 1 episode. We all miss him so maybe u guys can pick something appropriate for him like a walk in the park or the mall, something more his speed. Come on, chop chop!!!
Do you mean fat, wheezy Blake or lean, fit Blake?
I think its Blakes choice, not Danny’s. Based off of Instagram it looks like the Blizz has become more a family man over the years so probably has less time to go on crazy adventures.
I missed you guys! Rock on!
Very entertaining video as always! Awesome run that included a little bit of everything. 👍
Classical good. Looks amazing
Great running video. That’s what originally drew me to the channel. Superb as always.
Excellent as usual gentlemen 👌
Great to see you guys in our neck of the woods! If you're ever in the area again, there's a classic trail, 'skyline to sea' in south bay, 60 miles both ways with 2k feet. Very nice trails.
Another great and inspiring video. Keep them coming.
Reminds me of when we used to run to the top of Timp to the hut in the 90s, as part of Sojourners running club. Except this is more beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Nothing more exciting than a Mediocre Amateur notification! Nice run guys, variety is the spice of rice.
Great run 🏃🏼♂️! Loved the the bridge & ladder of the rainforest section. So serene & beautiful. Happy New Year 🎊🎆🙋🏼♀️
GREAT trail, adventure and video. I love those spots too - those have been some exact locations of a couple of my memorable trips out there too!
The variety really is special. Looked like a wonderful day.
I would for real wear that every Friday of Lent...or all year
Blasting so fast and so far to so many awesome places, cool to see you guys actually enjoying more of it! The beauty of nature both large and small is the best part of it all for me! Well, that and the intense gnar moments! LOL
Amazing!!
Man that looks beautiful. Gotta add that to my list of places to run!
Awww Danny, it sounds like you and they care. Sometimes a full lunch on a fantastic vacation during a 20 mile run in such an amazing setting is like standing on the mountain top yelling, "I love this git!"
Seriously, those views are envious and yes, Matt, I do want to be there.
A change from our usual March broadcasting but I'm here for this. This was a fun watch. The stop for lunch put a smile on my face. Super pretty area.
So pretty!
Runners paradise!
So glad to see you guys killing it on my old stomping grounds before I left for college in the east coast 👊
My home!! I love it!! 🍀
The run in it self was impressive but stopping for lunch and then swimming in the cold ocean then getting back on the trail has put you in another level. Much respect. Thanks for taking us along.
great video... thx for posting
Damn I’ll be running a similar route on Monday, stoked you explored Marin!
I just found this channel after starting snowboarding with my husband and i’m just gonna say we LOVE this channel!! Please keep making vids ! We’ve watched almost every video y’all have on this channel 💖 Y’all are awesome !
You guys have got me into trail running. So than you. Been an inspiration.
Next one is the coast trail in the Royal National Park- 26km but beautiful (South of SYDNEY).
"Like dog set free" Haha! You guys have some of the best quotes on this channel!
A perfect day
I would not pass up a dip in cold water! Amazing video!
Wow what a cool trip :)
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying your videos for a while now so I was stoked to see one from my own backyard. Suggestion for another adventure: Downieville to the fire lookout at the top of the Sierra Buttes, I’m already looking forward to that one!
Right in my backyard!! Welcome to some of the most gorgeous land in the US. Such a mix of environments around Mt Tam and Pt Reyes :)
It’s always a great day when there’s a Mediocre Amateur waiting in my CZcams feed! Awesome video, hilarious beach scene. Keep up the great work, your videos get better and better!
What a beautiful hike. My fiancee and I are going to be in the bay area for our honeymoon in a couple of months. We'll have to check some of these trails out.
The Dipsea trail is not to be missed!
this was a fun video, amazing scenery. "it doesnt just have to be about suffering" lol
Chris and mat frolicking lol! blake..... i know you are watching these were ya at! another great video, thanks guys and good outro!
he's had knee issues in the past, he probably can't keep up with them as a result
@@eddiej7259 ya i miss blake..
I miss you guys when there is no videos! Always an exciting day when I see a notification!
I love the Dipsea Trail area. Sacred ground.
I dig the Jazz Samba music on the beach!
When was young I would have done that run in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours and not stopped to look at any of the sights. Now I appreciate all the sights now and don’t care how long it takes.
This MA video may very well be the most interesting one. Prior to the beach, I thought Crystof had been the influence of reason on the group; Danny showed good judgment. Awesome views, excellent editing and video. Thank you
You guys are the perfect storm. My daughter and I do small adventure runs (some posted on my channel) and we absolutely love your content!! Cheers gentlemen!
Another great video that makes me sad yet again that I live in Kansas!
yes kansas is very flat, but on a more positive note you are right next door to colorado!
Oh wow such beautiful scenery. Great job. Just Sub'd
you guys stopping for lunch was hilarious
I feel really robbed of some puke footage; seemed nearly inevitable
Also: a visit to Muir Woods helped me finally start to recover from PPD after having my first baby. Wild to see footage of it for the first time since visiting years ago
My hometown!
amazinng jeez
Hope your friendships last and last! God Bless!
Can not go wrong with Dipsea and Tam running. I absolutely love the Dipsea Trail, easily one of the top 3 in all of CA. Even though I HATE lapping things did my first marathon and ultra distance doing the Quad Dipsea unsupported.
This THIS is the way to get a long run in with friends, when youre in it for the experience and fun and not competing or setting a FKT this is an ideal day outside IMO
Cathedral music is soo appropriate!
Had to pretend to get an important call to watch this at the office haha.
Welcome to my neck of the woods!
That scene on the beach is so funny 😂
Dope !
Whenever you run down to the ocean, a dip is basically mandatory. 💪💪
To those of you thinking of doing this loop / parts of it, just be aware that the beach water in San Francisco bay area is usually very cold and the current can be strong & unpredictable. Would not recommend unless you are a strong swimmer and know how to handle rip currents. There have been numerous deaths reported on the beaches here. Stay safe homies!
Great video as usual! Cheers!
That’s how we lost Blake.
Hey, my home town!
Amazing you guys!! Well done.
Need to do this on my hiking this weekend!!
When was this again?
Hey it would be interesting to know what you guys do for a living, or at least what industries in general you work in? Hope major success for Mediocre Amateur, and all those who become one ;) The outdoors is a calling!
part of the mediocre experience is tryna figure out what they all do for a living haha.
Christoff is an airline pilot for united. Matt used to be a geography professor turned real-estate investor which clearly seems to be going very well considering his 2 million dollar jet and 1 million dollar helicopter. I know blake is a general contractor and thats how they met matt in the first place, he was doing work on matts home. Not sure what danny does though.
@@eddiej7259 Cool brotha, I appreciate that. Super inspiring to see how this all works.
@@pinetarsavage so true. The intrigue is killing me. Ha
Have to check it out. Generally do the Eastern Sierra, but wilderness areas probably make it hard to shoot. Western states trail is classic and easy to access if you know the back roads, but mostly state park so still has some restrictions. Tahoe might work, but usually too crowded for me. If you want notes ping me. Anyway, two thumbs up for Davis grad school alum 👍👍
Not many hills but lots of cold water up here in Michigan - the Great Lakes State.
Just hiked the Dipsea trail wearing MA hat two weeks ago. Weird!
That church like organ music for the first run through Muir Woods was absolutely perfect. 🙏🎶@dannybryson
I'm with Danny. Big meal in the middle of a long run just increases that late-run vom factor.
So good! What are the top two things you LOVE about the Amateurs videos?
Frolicking in the water! 🤣🤣
Was a new camera used for this? Everything looked fantastic!
