From the documentary, Jordan didn't even want to meet with Nike since they were a small track running shoe company while he was scouting for his signature shoes lol, But they let him have his deal and signature shoes. Jordan MADE Nike to what it is today

It was the color scheme that was banned.... So jordan ones were still technically banned by the nba because they had the same color scheme as the air ships.

My favorite MJ commercial
nike air ship in black/red were the original banned 1s. Jordan didn't wear the Banned 1s as we know today until closer to the all star break in 1985. Jordan wore the bred ships in the preseason until oct 28 or November 5th he started wearing white air ships cuz of the rule of the colors have to match what other plays wore.

That’s dead wrong. He was fined because he wore black and red Air Ships. They didn’t have any white in them. The NBA stated all sneakers must be mostly white and share the team’s uniform colors. He was fined for wearing the Bred Nike Air Ships. Then, he wore the Bred Jordan 1’s because Nike used the hype of the ban to promote the Jordan 1’s. He also wore the Chicago’s (they released at the same time).

That really sucked that these shoes were banned by the NBA back in the day!!! Even up to this day they still look very very awesome!!! They are a very iconic pair of shoes that's for sure!!! They were banned since they didn’t have any white on it, so he was fined 5000 dollars each time he wore them in a game, so Nike instead of changing color or giving him different pair, they just let him use it as Nike pays the fines
