Top 50 Eurovision Songs Closest to Not Qualifying (2004-2018)

- Here is the top 50 Eurovision performances who were the closest to not qualifying to grand finals in 2004-2018. For that, differences between qualifiers' and the first non-qualifier's scores were calculated and divided by a maximum possible score a song could get in the semi-final (to adjust the differences to a number of voting countries and dissimilar voting systems). The results are presented in percentages.
In case of a tie, songs' placements are the tie-breaker. If there is still a tie, the percentage of maximum possible score is the second tie-breaker.

Fun fact:
In 2006, Serbia and Montenegro (as only country in history) were able to vote in the semifinal and the final despite their non-participation due to a scandal in the selection process which resulted in Macedonia entering the final instead of Poland. That was also the best placement of Macedonia in history.
Not anymore, *North* Macedonia reached the top 10 by finishing 7th place this year with the masterpiece "Proud" by Tamara (the one who once represent FYR Macedonia back in 2008 contest), become the best North Macedonian result to this date!

Also probably North Macedonia wouldn't have qualified if Serbia&Montenegro didn't withdraw, because Croatia wouldn't have been an AQ and would have probably qualified instead of North Macedonia

I think you should have added sweden 2008 with negative points to qualify just for shock value.
I think he didn't add because of golden cards. Likewise Poland 2008

It is funny, the Netherlands or Belgium don't qualify that often. But when they do they are like top 5 in the semi final.
You can say that our songs are fantastic or dramatic: there is nothing in between. ;)

What about "Hero" from Sweeden in 2008? This song was 12th and qualified only because of wildcard from jury. I think it should be on first place.

As an ABRSM candidate, I think that the 100 pass mark can also be used for SF under the new system.
Only two songs qualified with fewer than 100 points in the semi. So, if you get fewer than 100 points, you are almost a guaranteed NQ.
Only six NQ entries obtained above 100 points, out of 77 (7.8%). This means that if you get more than 100 points, you have a good chance of qualifying.
In my ideal SF votings, there is not a single song which qualified from an SF with less than 100 points, while I will set the 10th place to score between 100 and 110.
Ireland 2006 and Moldova 2007 barely qualified then went on to place top 10 in the final. Even better Latvia 2005 barley qualified and then got 5th place in the final. It just shows how bad the 2004-2007 system was

Paper ESC Norway & Bulgaria in semi final 2 in Baku both scored 45 points after all the results but because Norway scored more top marks that’s why they went through!
