  • It's been a while since I've been out fishing, so it's great to have sneaked out for a session over on the Holderness coast. I was joined on the beach today by Mike (Mike's Rigs on Facebook), and his brother, to fish one of the middle beaches between Hornsea and Withernsea.
    Tackle used in the session includes
    Akios Airline and Iron Spin 50
    Akios Fury FX420 and Penn Spinfisher 5500lc
    Akios Airpower RXP and Penn Spinfisher 7500lc
    Thanks for watching, take care & tight lines!
    Alex

      I'm tempted to go the other way mate. I might give the dongles a go over rough ground in winter.

    well done on the fish Alex. a single small hook or pennel arrangement is far more effective than a dongle you were quite right to question its efficiency , too many anglers seem to miss bites with them . Ask Mr Begbie on what hook size and pattern he uses, he has seen the light.🤔

  • @mattp7136

    Nice to see you had a better session, there are three bits of advice I could give you, but the biggest one is to reduce the size of your baits, the crab bait you showed would do 3 or 4 chucks, rather than the standard pattern J hook you feel obliged to fill, use short shanks, cox and rawle or kamasan b940s 2/0 being a decent size, with a small circle pennel, or if on the dongle, again smaller baits, you might feel tight but its beach not rock fishing. Last one is, hounds especially are good at shedding the hook close in, when you are bringing them into shallow water keep your rod tip low, you'll lose less. All the best, tight lines.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  Před měsícem +1

      The thing is, its not the dongle/hair that folk want. it's the loop that the hook attaches to, which allows it to swivel. It's also the thing that sets a hair rig and dingle rig apart 😉

    Nice Hounds. Get yourself down to Southbourne near Bournemouth if you can...good fishing and lots of different species off the beach and can be very good any time of the year. I fished the area for three years when I worked there and good all along that coast
