    My last order had 2 and a half of these recommendations. I didn't get the fuego ethiopia but got the bear claw blend (also excellent). The other 2 were orphea and crema wave. Can confirm crema wave freshness. Was still degassing on arrival. Found it a very easy bean to get consistently good results. Whole Latte Love is now my first choice for online espresso in Canada

      Hi HN, Thanks for the feedback! The Fuego Bear Claw is an excellent blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian coffees. I nearly featured it in this video but picked their straight Ethiopian Yirgacheffe for complete contrast with the other bean blends in the video.

    So interesting. My last coffee purchase was an Ethiopian (single origin) coffee, a week from roasting and I have had a lot of challenges with my not-so-great coffee grinder. The coffee was delicious despite a less than ideal extraction but it might be time to upgrade my grinder. Definitely a coffee I will purchase again from the awesome roasting house I buy from in Melbourne, Australia.

    I know that oily coffee beans should be avoided. I read that Starbuck blonde whole beans are not as oily. Fo you know if safe to use with gaggia academia?

    Awesome review! I am looking for a chocolatey, thick body, italian style, but with a little bit of brightness (not too much!) It looks like the crema wave might be what I want. Everything I find is either light roast citrus (high altitude single origin), or burnt tasting (i.e., lavazza)

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Před 2 lety

      Sounds like Crema Wave would be a great option to try. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as chocolatey, but it is thick-bodied with a hint of brightness without falling too far into the extremes on either end (citrus or burnt). Give it a shot and let us know what you think!

      Hi Chris, Orphea is very easy to work with! The Fuego Ethiopian and Crema Wave tend to be much fresher so they may still be off-gassing CO2 when received. With very fresh coffees grind size for espresso may need daily adjustment. AJ did a video tracking grind size changes day to day on Fuego Ethiopian as the coffee aged out to about 30 days from roast. Very interesting to see how much grind size changed! Check it out here: czcams.com/video/6TMkDe1XtIM/video.html

    Very nice review. I have used the maromas orphea. Tastes good. However, I don't think its espresso shot has high amount of caffein. i had been used to nespresso diavolitto shot which has 150 mg of caffeine in it for its high robusta content. I tried to find the caffein content per shot but couldn't.
    Which coffee you think would be with highest amount of caffein?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Před rokem +1

      Hi BS, Thanks for the kind comment. Orphea is nice. It does have some robusta content. Difficult to list caffeine content as it depends on how it's brewed. Full robusta coffees tend to have more than Arabica and lighter roasts tend to have more than darker roasts. Coffees here are likely close in caffeine. Might try this one too: www.wholelattelove.com/products/carraro-tazza-doro

    Can you post the recipes used for each of these coffees? grams in/out, brew temp, Pre-infusion duration and brew time.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Steve, When we do tasting of multiple coffees like this we use a relatively consistent recipe of 18g dose/36g out. Brew temp of 200F +/-1F, no pre-infusion and extraction time in high 20's from pump on which puts us at about 23- 25 seconds from 1st drip. If I was fine tuning a single coffee I'd probably change things a bit. For example going a little higher with brew temp on lighter roast like the Ethiopian. A fresher from roast coffee like that one might benefit from a long low flow pre-infusion using flow control on an E61 machine to reduce brightness. Conversely with a darker roast or less fresh coffee I might reduce brew temp a bit and hit it with a higher initial flow rate which reduces as the shot progresses if flow control were available.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Před 2 lety

      Hi Kara, Thanks for the question. Unless you're purchasing high-end specialty coffee you'll be fine going with 2 bags. Just store unopened in original bag away from heat and light. Even expensive single origin coffees don't hit their prime until about 3 weeks after roast. Store those well and they're still very good a couple of months out.

      Hi DP, The standard dose weight for a triple is 21g. Basic shot timing is always the same 20-30 seconds whether doing single, doubles or triples. If you have a scale the basic brew ratio for espresso is 1:2 so if using 21g of ground coffee you'd want 42g out by weight in your cup in 20-30 seconds.
