This is a heartbreaking story. She cared first and foremost about saving lives, even at the cost of her own. The good she did has lived on.

An extremely courageous person. She showed Allied men as well as the enemy, we can do anything men can. Fight shoulder to shoulder, sometime ahead of men, but never behind.....

That was absolutely brilliant. Perhaps your best so far. But, we must not forget you are just starting this journey.
You brought this story to life, that young man, that is called talent.
    Thank you. 😊

I had heard the name of this lady but knew nothing about her. You have filled that gap for me so I thank you.
A phenomenal heroin and her story told phenomenally well by you Sir!
So far as I know, you have found a unique niche in telling of lives and incidents from history in East Anglia and I am sure similar channels covering other regions could arise, or perhaps you could look into them when material from your own region is exhausted.
I am so pleased that your work is starting to bear fruit but I know how you hate video editing. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a suitable collaborator came along to complement your undoubted research and storytelling skills. But that would need to be a very special person as your productions come from your heart and nothing must spoil that.
    Best wishes young man.

Thank you for this chapter. I had a vague idea of who Nurse Cavell was and what she did or how she died. My niece was born in the Edith Cavell hospital in Brussels, where I first heard her name. She certainly deserves every monument and mountain and memorial around the world. What a woman!

A well known street is named after Edith Cavell in Port Louis, the Capital of Mauritius.
This well presented video, highlights the brute cruelty that has been / is inflicted by mankind on mankind. This cruel show does carry on still today unabated!
One dares not think what went in the mind of Edith Cavell, seconds before the fatal bullet took away her life.

Thank you, I really enjoy all your videos. I’m pretty deaf and there’s very few videos I can hear without captions. You speak so clearly and lucidly I do not need captions but thank you for them anyway. Sometimes it is easier. What a wonderful woman - war brings out the best in most people but It can also - sadly - bring out the worst of humanity. The phrase “ sadly there are too many memorials’ - isn’t that so sad. Humanity must find a way to get on otherwise we will doom ourselves. Bless the woman 🙏🙏👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺

Thank you, I'm not at the level yet where I can add my own subtilties I believe you need over 10K subs for that and the auto one are not very good, But I plane to add them if and when I can. All I meant by the memorial comment is there is so many I would probably had to 10 mins just to list them all.

I will be honest I was never greatly interested in history at school, they made it just politics or a way to broad to understand or largely care about, I find if you start small you can get people much more interested.

I think it was pretty foolhardy to make the decision to go back to Belgium knowing the war had started, knowing she could have practiced nursing at home, and considering the history between France and Germanic states before and after unification, one would be foolish to think Belgian neutrality would hold out, and that one would be safe residing and working there. It was basically a big buffer between them, and of course would be invaded. I’m sure she realized what her fate would be if caught aiding soldiers

    • @alittlebitofhistory
      @alittlebitofhistory  Před 2 lety +2

True but by that point her life was there, not to mention her friends, students and pets. Plus their was the belief that Belgium being Protected by Britain would kept them safe, sadly very misguided.

Sometimes it can appear to be personally foolhardy to do the best one can for others at one's own personal risk or cost.
This is what makes the lady a very special and exalted person. She represents the very best of humanity and the levels they can attain.
