  • Gaming laptops in 2022 are taking another step forward in terms of their raw performance but probably a step backwards in their pricing. They may offer lower performance compared to a PC but when it comes to the casual gamer, these things are reliable, high quality and get the job done well in such a portable and convenient format.

    Love the attention to detail in this review, the day to day usage is a really valuable resource for a potential purchase decision!
    Note: For headphone users, you intro cinematic is very loud and jarring compared to the audio levels of the rest of the clips. Also, if you could splurge for a Lav mic or shotgun mic with background noise suppression it would really boost the overall quality of your videos. Audio is king on CZcams in separating the amateurs from the pros!

      Very helpful feedback Colton. Hate to admit it but I only have my oneplus to record all my videos for now. With everyone 's support, I hope I'll eventually be able to get some decent hardware. I guess till then ill have to be the amateur. Oh and good tip about the intro cinematic volume. Thanks!

      @@kazmiee getting amazing use out of that phone then! A good tip would be to possibly use a secondary device with a pair of wired headphones to record your audio and then mix it in post. Noticed myself a huge jump in quality/clarity when video conferencing the difference between a built in mic and just a headphone mic pinned to a shirt, helps a lot to cut out the background ambiance!

    Very accurate description. I would call the GS66 the poor man's Razer Blade. I bought a 2021 Razer Blade Advanced last year and I knew it was not as strong as some of the competitors but the build quality and OLED display is what drew me in.

    Hey man, thank you for the dedication you put into this review. I'm looking at this laptop in comparison to the Asus M16. It seems like the overall package is better with the GS-66. However, I'm concerned with the fan noise from both laptop and I already know that the M16 is load and the fan kicks in whenever there is more than 8-10 tabs open with a video from CZcams and a couple of websites. Is this the case with the GS-66? do you still have it? if not, please see if you can recall this info. TY!

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for the encouragement! I remember prior to bios updates the fans seem to always have some level of noise. But during moderate browsing work, i realize that the fan noise was not distracting. But under load, the fan noise was noticeably higher than for example my Razer Blade

      I had a M16 and it was nice but soldered ram ruins it and mine died within 4 days, fans were bonkers loud and frequently came on. Now I might have had a defective unit to start with but just sharing my experience. I am awaiting my GS66 which seems to be better overall.

    Hey man, ive been waiting like for ages for asus zephyrus duo 16 to become available in my country. But it seems that they may still need more time to make it available for purchase. So now im considering MSI GS66 or GE66 2022 model. What do you think? Should i wait or just go with either one of the MSIs?

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety +2

      The duo is obviously fancy AF and may also warrant an additional budget. Difficult to compare that use case to any other laptop. I like the GS with the understated professional looks but there is nothing crazy special about it other than that. Even for the GE, they should be reliable,honest to god, simple gaming laptops. But nothing like duo fancy pants. What will your main use of the laptop be?

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety

      @@ferryjunigwanmurdiansyah4307 oh yes. Their versions with QHD screens and 3070ti are usually shipping with 32gigs. Id think if you are looking for value for money premium understated finish, the gs66 would be a decent option. One thing to note though, it does still come with the 16:9 screen. If you look into legions, you should get that slightly taller 16:10 ratio. And it would feel slightly fancier with alot of RGB shows (if required). It would be last gen but the legion 7 is one of the few laptops carrying high TGP and makes up for power

Razer has also continued to stick with 16.9 . You can also check out the m16 and s17 by asus. Those are decent premium laptops as well

    I can't decide between msi gs66 rtx 3070 ti model vs asus strix g15 rtx 3070 ti.... For me performance is really important in games like cyberpunk and in music production and i need good battery comparatively..... which one do u think is better????

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety +1

      Well, while the msi has a 99wh battery which is the absolute max. Was not quite impressed with the overall life even with the 12th gen and those fancy E-cores. A Ryzen system though, will ALWAYS give you better battery life. Like 30% more even. So that g15 with the ryzen might actually work. For your music production though, you would have appreciated a 16:10 screen like in Asus M16. It is a very good machine but comes me low battery life. But the screen will be stunning.

    It's actually not a true gaming laptop, it is trying to be a well-rounded one and yes, the webcam on all PC's should be 1080p and high quality there is not excuse the parts are extremely cheap. I am planning on getting an aftermarket 1080p camera for the rare need for video conferencing and they are cheap and light but shouldn't have to do that in 2022. Let me tell you as I tested 2 other Alder Lake laptops and 7-8 hours is amazing these chips are only slightly more efficient than 11th gen and I only got 6hrs and 22mins with everything including changing display frequency to 60hz out of the Asus M16 and got under 3 hours with the Aorus 15 XE5. The GS77 has the 1080p camera but it is a pound heavier and larger and I needed something a bit more portable.

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety +1

      100% agreed. These laptops are crazy expensive and there should not be any compromise on them. Gamers need even better camera quality for streaming; gaming laptops would be subject to greater use and should be built better than the average joes. I mean the build quality for the msi was pretty decent and solid but things like poor cameras, speakers, touchpads are just criminal to be brought to 12th gen devices; especially for their premium lineup.

      It's the efficiency cores in action. If you're only doing light work with those parameters set, you'd see a huge increase with all of tasks being handled by the little cores.
