That pedal tone gave me such Entombed vibes with everything set to max. Killer sound + noise gate. Nice!
Exactly. This thing just *screams* Wolverine Blues, and I guess depending on the exact settings might also work for the guitar sounds on Clandestine and Left Hand Path respectively.
I’ve seen EHX advertise the pedal as an HM-2 inspired pedal, yet I have not heard it demoed like in the beginning of this video. When you played it right out of the box, with all the knobs maxed out, that just convinces me to add this to my HM-2 buzzsaw collection, better than those EHX ads.
To me personally the best HM-2 inspired pedal is Guardian of the Wurm by KMA Audio Machines and I would love to see you play it. You 're by far one of the best musicians in terms of making something sound the best it can get. Love your videos!

Hey ola! Not only did you do a great pedal demo, but this video also provides great examples here of your tremolo picking technique, something I'm trying to figure out. Thanks for the unintentional guitar lesson man!

It sounds like an "idealized" version of the Swedish Chainsaw tone. Really big and thick, but tight and chuggy, too. You could easily play fast riffs without the notes getting lost in the mush of sound.
Ola, you should try this out on bass too and see how the blend knob sounds. 🤘🤘
Agree! If something has a blend knob, it's basically a guitar AND a bass pedal.

Nice video looks like fun and the noise gate is a good feature.
I'd still go for a Northern Mauler over this. This is like an HM-2 with a little extra, but Northern Mauler has a wider range of useful sounds. Though the gate on the Hell Melter is a nice extra.
Nice review, I like the versatility of this pedal going from smooth distortion to straight buzzsaw.
This is what I call the GRIND. Could use this for some more experimental sounds in composing music, maybe even a mad Mick Gordon sound. Sounds sweet!

I just recently learned of this pedal. It's great to see a fellow metalhead demo it.
I would have liked to hear it into the effects return of a tube amp. Straight into an interface, I think it sounds like crispy crap!
cool, just 200€ again, the prices especially for pedals have become nothing but ridiculous imo, lets hope that this disgusting trend to make just everything (not just gear related) as overpriced and unaffordable as possible will come to an end soon! 🙈🙏

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but inflation doesn’t usually swing back around the other way.
Unfortunately, it's not a trend, it's life. Jobs are paying more, but it's still rough. I just buy used, or finance, the majority of the gear I buy.

Use a 7+ string with this pedal and you really don't need a bass. Those lows are crazy!
Ahhh , makes me miss bands like entombed and bolt thrower.
So many great bands back then. And they were all so super young. The Entombed guys in particular were all 15-19 years old and produced amazing, timeless metal. Crazy to think about.

I just got an email from Guitar Center with this pedal in it and was like ok, looks cool, but how does it sound. Let me go to CZcams and see if there are any reviews . . . luckily, Ola was right at the top of the list and I was comfortable in the fact that it would be reviewed in the manner most appropriate

Hey Ola! I would love to see a video on how to record and mix the HM2 sound (regardless of what pedal is being used) since it is a very extreme and overbearing sound. How do you get the rest of the instruments to cut through the mix while still retaining the nasty trebly low end sound of the “HM2”?

@@dennismcdonald2607 Not really. Also, they made a more compact Metal Muff with a gate but without the boost. But it doesn't sound as buzzsaw-ish as this one.

Is it possible to dial this thing into something comparable to the Slayer Reign in Blood tone? If so, that would solidify it as my next guitar related purchase. (It having a built in noise gate is a huge bonus and if I can use it to dial in to my favorite metal tone, or something close then that would an absolute win)
The amp I'm using is a Marshall DSL20HR, if that'll help with the dialing process. And I'm probably gonna get a MX angled 2x12 to replace the old MG 4x12 I'm currently running it through. Lord knows how important speakers are to your tone.

Hi Ola, I think you should test the Joyo Dark Flame pedal, I'm pretty sure it will chug, I know you already review the joyo bantamp zombie. The dark flame is a terrible and very affordable pedal to any beginner with a short budget who wants to play Metal (the joyo UZI is not bad too but I prefer the dark flame which is known as a "kind of" REVV G3 and this arround 50 dollars/euros or whatever)

I got one of these. I think my favorite sound I got out of it was in normal mode with treble at noon, mids and highs maxed with frequency set to 3 o’clock, and distortion set to 3 o’clock
It reminds me of the tone you hear in Plagues, by Converge
You left out the dry lvl knob. how does it work with other distortions? i want to be able to get an hm-2 sound blended with my normal distorted sound.

When a pedal is released I jump immediately to Ola reviews because is the real trustable one. Honestly, nothing special on this pedal. For the price, HM2 sounds better in my view.
