The recording was made in Vinhais, a municipality in the district of Bragança, in the far Northeast of Portugal.
This video has unfortunately been edited which means many of the verses are missing. The full version (sung by the same singer) can be heard here: • Romance de D. João
If anyone has any information about the rest of the lyrics or the history of the song, please let me know.

Thank you so much for your work. You made what the Portuguese people don't do as, don't want or don't know. Portugal have received two big influences, on the North, Celtic influence and to the south of "Al Andalus" or if you want, Andalusian (in Spain) "Alentejo"(Portugal) ws the last Califate on Iberian Peninsula. Capital "Beja" or "Pax Julia", now capital the beautiful Sevilha. In my modest opinion, to understand the Portugueses must know that.

I just watched your vid about Scarborough fair, and I know this o completely unrelated, I kind hear the Melody popularised by Paul Simon. Very weird coincidence. You could sing it over this melody
