    Your comments were right on the money, so thank you. And you're doing a splendid job, too. Sure you make mistakes, but who doesn't? Plus you always learn from your mistakes, you admit when you don't know something and ask for help - which is a remarkable and rare trait. Negative comments that aren't constructive tell us more about those who make them than anything about you. You bring a great deal of entertainment and joy into our homes with your hard work, cheerful attitude and clever designs. One thing we especially liked today was the way you utilized the logs that had split by putting them up "together" with a small amount of mortar in between the separation - that came out really nicely and was very distinctive.

    If you were to ask the people who have been leaving negative comments what they have built, I am sure the answer would be: 'I have built nothing at all'. It's a sad fact that there are people out there who are capable of nothing but negativity. It's so much easier to tear down than to build. In my opinion, the project is going very well. I am sure that your imaginative use of materials and hard work will pay off in the end and that you will have a great place to live in once all the work is done. Good luck with this wonderful project. Best wishes. :)

    @ 13:29-13-53 and 14:34-15:77 I love the way you don’t fixate on rigid traditional methods, rather using creative techniques to get a more interesting effect, like using the split logs with fill in between. Definitely unique.
    As humans, our brains are trained to see something we know and understand and translate it so that we don’t focus on details. We see a shape like a house, and our brains say “house” or “structure” and we move on without seeing more. What you’ve done, however, is caused our brains to stop and not move on with an icon in our head that says, “house”, but to study the details to understand what we’re actually looking at. Bravo!

    A wee suggestion for your wall area. How about a nice trellis with some type of climbing plant. Or you might prefer to use artificial plants to weave onto it and trail down. Also some nice planters (large pots) with maybe one large greenery plant and the rest with flowering bush type plants like lavander(ones that come back every year. It will be a bit of expense to begin with) you could also extend a rockery (heaped up rocks) further along and plant lots of little rock plants between the rocks. Hope this stirs up some ideas for you.🤗

    Plant cuttings. Put in autumn and they'll do their thing. many species can be metre or more in height from the start. Interestingly olive trees will transplant at any age, and they make really good hedge.Alternatively plant vines, they will cover wall quickly. Live in climate like yours. Passionfruit and Morning glory will do well. Morning glory is a pest in wetter climates. But in yours its gonna be fine.

  • @medaily57

    For your garden area, you could put bottle trees. Search the term in Google images. Basically it as a dead tree with small branches that you place bottles on, with the branch going in the neck of the bottle. You would need a solid base, concrete, but could cover that with organic material. Grass or moss, or even mulch if you don't want to worry about keeping anything alive there. The more colorful the bottles on your tree, the better!
    I really enjoy your channel. I am looking for a new home and think your bottle wall concept would be nice to give more privacy!

    If you can stand making another stone wall, the best thing long-term for the back wall would be a garden. Plant fruit trees--you have a climate that likes citrus--and espalier them if you need to keep them contained. Then when you're not traveling, you can grow lettuce and broccoli in the raised bed in front of the trees. When you're away, you just mulch it with wood chips, and it still looks okay. In shady areas you can grow flowery bushes that take up about the same room as citrus, like azaleas and rhododendrons. Anyway, that would get you a screen for the back wall, a pretty one that wouldn't take much work, and it would help make you more self-sufficient when you're home. Plus, there's nothing quite like home-picked fruit.

  • @oiavh
    @oiavh Před 3 lety +8

    I would plant plants that are adapted to the area so you don't need to be watering a lot. Herbs like thyme, rosemary and lavender. Fruits like grapes, figs, strawberry tree, peach, apricot, loquat, pomegrante, some citrus... that you will need to prune in espalier form.

    Thank you for talking about the commenting. It is such a large community in youtube and even if in life you can deal with a few difficult people and move on, avoiding them in the future... in here you have to listen to the nonconstructive, degrading commentary in regular basis. As you said it might not stop, but I'm glad you talk about it. It is the first step towards recognition of something which in turn will change the attitude of people towards that said thing, making people less prone to do it in the long run.

    Are we hiding the wall or shading the wall? I mean, if coverage matters, use English ivy, if it's a wind break, the some species of cedar, if bugs are an issue Wax Myrtles. All these are mid speed growers, cheap when small, and fill out green of different shades.
