After a year of looking for a new car and being pickey as all can be. I skipped over the used BMWs and Mercedes for a new '21 XSE at the end of 2020.
It's been the prefect car so far. From moving houses, road trips with 3 6ft tall adults and even some bush camping. Its been the perfect do-all vehicle. Friends and Co-workers have said the interor is like a baby lexus, and after sitting in a few, they are not far off. Having the manual is the real bonus. It's no slouch, yet supper easy to drive. People get hung up on horsepower when they don't understand what they need or use. Not everything needs to be 3, 4 or 500HP to be good.
No car is prefect, but this this is thing is the prefect blend of bad and good. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it.

    • @inctru

I agree. Turbo engines are one of several items that are deal-breakers for me in terms of buying that particular vehicle. Push-belt CVT's are another. Same with engine cylinder deactivation, engine stop/start technologies, & GDI engines that don't also incorporate port injection into the design. WOW, I just described almost all new vehicles offered today, in one way or another. :( I'm currently driving a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE sedan 6-MT, but liked my previous 2015 Yaris SE hatch 5-MT better in retrospect & now regret trading that in for the Corolla. :(

Great video but one thing that I think is important to mention when it comes to achieving the miles per gallon that Toyota talks about. Let me ask you, did you go the speed limit on that long drive? Going the speed limit makes it achievable for sure. I found that my 2021 Toyota Corolla gets its very best gas mileage between 55 and 65 mph. So if you're willing to go the speed limit or slightly under you will beat the average miles per gallon that the dealership or that Toyota claims you can get. You can get even better than that just by going the speed limit.
Go the speed limit and you'll get 38-40 avg mpg highway. Go five under and you'll get as high as 46-48 mpg highway mileage in a 2021 Corolla, not hybrid either.
But I understand this is America and almost no one is willing to do that.

Please skip the push-ups, and just show the complete cargo area with seats folded down. Does it allow sleeping/camping with both seats down?

I was so excited to pick one of these up until I felt the CVT. Modern Manufactures are spitting in the faces of consumers selling these abysmal transmissions
Now I'll have to hunt down a manual

you say 168hp is gutless but upgrading to it from a mitsubishi mirage will make you think otherwise.

IT MAKES ME LAUGH WHEN PEOPLE COMPLAIN THE COROLLA ISN'T FAST ENOUGH... IT'S A COROLLA NOT A Z1 CORVETTE!
THE COROLLA IS MADE FOR DRIVER'S WHO HAVE SENSE - NOT IDIOTS OUT TO KILL SOMEBODY ON THE HIGHWAY!
TO COMPLAIN THAT THE COROLLA ONLY GETS 32 MPG INSTEAD OF 35MPG IS NIT-PICKING.
DRIVER SKILLS HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MPG ALSO!

I'm surprised at the relatively poor mpg. Especially when fitted with the dreadful CVT transmission, which supposedly is to make mpg better than a regular automatic. My 17 Elantra 2.0 engine, with a 6 speed automatic gets 29 30, around town, and 38 40 on the highway running at 75 mph. My new kia K5 turbo, with 8 speed automatic transmission, is getting 28 29 around town, and 36, 38 mpg highway at 75 80 mph. And its a much bigger and heavier car. Toyota was always the mpg champ. Wonder why this small car seems a little thirsty.
