I just bought a “rescue” monstera from Lowe’s on clearance for the students I teach about all things planty at a school I volunteer at. They did such a good job assessing her. They got to see the junk soil costa farms uses vs the soil they learned how to make. They learned about transpiration, how to trim the sunburnt leaves. They checked the roots and repotted her. Within the first week she put out the 2 leaves she was working on and is so happy now. The kids love her. They named her Jayde (Jade). Lol
So I'm not the only one who buckles my plants in the seat. 😊
Do you trim your roots? I bought a monstera 2 years ago from the grocery store. She was $80, in a 2 gal pot I think. But she was big. I repotted her into a 24 inch pot, and she outgrew it. Now she’s in the biggest pot I can give her- 36 inches plastic pot from the outdoor section at Lowe’s. Last year I chopped her roots, I had to do it again this year. When I do she puts out new leaves and pups. I took out 6 of the 8 pups she had in the spring and gave them to my sister. Now she is about 8 ft tall and putting out leaves over 2 ft wide in an east window w southern exposure.
But I couldn’t keep her happy if I didn’t trim her roots. It also saves me some money on pots and soil.
I loved your video on purchased plant, taking it home, etc. that was a beautiful Monstera that you purchased. I like the idea of clear pods to see what’s going on.
Thank you for doing this because it's a matter of education to help plants thrive and survive, especially for the novice starting out. Would you consider featuring a plant from a big box store that covers the condition and listed price? I only ask because Lowe's and saw a decent sized Prismacolor Florida Green with damaged sections that were clipped together and priced at $29.98. I'm hoping they will go on clearance soon.

What a great video!! 🙏🏽💚 I agree with all your care tips and I wish this video existed 5 years ago! LOL I definitely try to give my plants a week or 2 to acclimate before any repotting and adding systemic treatments, but Monsteras are tough so it can handle it when things are done right like in this video

I just wasn't cautious enough bringing in my new plants I guess. I look at my plants all the time, so I hope I caught it early! I'll be spending this afternoon spraying every plant down with Neem oil!
Im a plant novice and just bought a monstera from Walmart and it was infested with gnat eggs so I had to get all of the soil off of the roots as much as possible and repotted it in my own mixture. Ij really hope it'll still continue to grow after all of the trauma Ij put it through 🙁😩

I have a fairly new MD baby that I purchased back in February from our university’s greenhouse. It’s doing great, but there’s only one plant in the pot. Would it be too stressful for the plant if I repotted and added more plants to the pot? I’d love to have a more full plant. Same question for a Swiss Cheese plant. I have one I rescued and it’s growing like mad…a new leaf, sometimes two a week!
Wow i got on this morning for $49 and it don't have so many leaves like yours, my was the same size it height with only 6 leaves, 3 small, and 3 big ones. I feel Robbed lol

Hi Ashley Anita. Speaking of Monstera-where would be the best location for my Monstera cuttings that I just put in soil? Thank you! I put 3 cuttings in water and placed them in soil after the roots were nice n long!
I'm at the point where my monstera is huge and up to the ceiling! I would love some info on how to safely cut them back and propagate! I actually cut back one of them and put them in water! Ive done it before with smaller ones. Unfortunately it rotted most of the cuttings!! So the remaining ones are now in perlite. I hope it works! 😂 I'm just worried about cutting back the rest of it!! If you have any suggestions.
In my experience I found that when I let the cutting harden off longer, it roots easily for me in water no matter the size of the cutting

Buying a big plant is very risky if you cant recreate its envrionment from where you bought it, much more likely to respond to trauma badly especially concerning light
Where do I buy a male monstera , there must be lots about as you are all buying the female ones !!!!!
