    Thank you very much indeed for your advice. Our baby Swiss Cheese Plants are flourishing due to your advice. Also, for your advice of what to do if it is too wet, etc. We cannot thank you enough. You covered possible problems, that are so valuable to us and many other people. If they died, we couldn't replace them as they are so expensive. My Mother-In-Law bought a plant for my 60th Birthday tomorrow, (6/9/2023). One for myself and One for her daughter. We are like Mother's! These Monstera Cheese Plants hopefully will grow into healthy, happy Plants? I will let you know as time goes by. You are a Blessing to both of us. Your knowledge is invaluable, also to a lot of other people from what I read in people's Feedback. Bless You. 🪴I have not got a photo of a Cheese Plant sorry. x

    Both under-watering and overwatering, can lead to issues with Monstera plant leaves turning yellow. If the leaves feel dry and brittle, then they are likely dying due to underwatering. If the leaves are moist and almost seem to be rotting as they turn yellow, that is a strong indication of excess water.

  • @snowdog9954
    @snowdog9954 Před rokem +4

    I read that the splits on the leaves are to help wind travel through so a bit of movement can encourage them (a gentle shake). Made sense but could be wrong.

    • @powerranger3223
      @powerranger3223 Před rokem +7

      The splits are to let light get to the lower part of the plant. You’ll notice that very little splits occur the lower they are. Higher ones will have more splits

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem +2

      Thats right. The splits helps in many ways. Such as wind travel, light, and rain water. Because these plants are tropical plants where it rains and moisture level is always high.

    Hello, NEW SUBSCRIBER.. I've had a really healthy monstera plant for several years. Recently I had to. Change the pot & my plant began looking sad, it's leaves curled under , only not the top ones which look healthy & happy.
    I'm often give my plants victims by way of fertilizer & spray them, so i I'm trying too find out what to do next.
    The plant has had a couple of incidents which may have made it depressed looking, A picture hanging above it fell off & onto it about six months ago, so my amy BEAUTIFUL leaves were badly damaged also the stems many breaking off,. I was devastated!! Also I've noticed that the stems seem heavy so causing it to droop.

      My monstera has those dried brown pieces too. I tried to pull one but I ended up ripping actual healthy strings away. Maybe if they really bother you, you could cut them a bit shorter where the dead material is, idk. But don't pull on them!

    • @e.b.4379
      @e.b.4379 Před rokem +2

      Low humidity causes brown spots on a Monstera leaf because unlike other plant species, it takes in a lot of its water through the leaves. When there isn't enough moisture in the air around the plant it will dry out and turn brown. A leaf that has gone brown due to low humidity will also have a papery texture.

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem +2

      Hi there, If the leaves are developing properly then there could be many reasons. Firstly, check if the plant is watered enough. Secondly its receiving enough indirect bright light. Thirdly, there could be nutrient deficiency that could be causing leaves problems. Fertilize during spring and summer with complete liquid fertilizer once monthly.

  • @gisnicbel
    @gisnicbel Před 2 lety +11

    Thank you for this video. I don’t really have any of the problems mentioned, but I have an issue I’m not sure about. Why are my new growth leaves curly? Not drooping, not yellowing, curly. The stem is also a bit curly. Help🙏🏼

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před 2 lety +8

      Hi Giselle, Thank you so much. Inspect your plant and soil thoroughly for any pest infestation. If not then maybe a nutrient deficiency. Curly leaves are generally caused due to extreme temperatures (hot/cold), arid conditions or too much humidity, and too bright light. Make sure all these factors are taken care of. Hopefully, your plant will recover soon.👍

      @yaya804 Před rokem +2

      In my experience, the new leaves uncurl from the stem of the previous leaf so that's probably why. My monstera adanosai does the same but they uncurl pretty quickly with a little helping hand. The deliciosa leaves are much fleshier so they take more effort to straighten. I saw a video on YT where a girl used cardstock junk mail, cut into strips, to make a sort of "brace" which she scotch-taped to the back side of the leaves with the strips holding it in correct position. One long strip down the middle and branching smaller strips out to hold certain striation segments which are also curled. I tried it and my plant looks so uniform and nice now. Hope that helps!

      Hi Marie, the leaves develop their fenestrations while they are curled and growing. Therefore, I cant make a time lapse of how leaves develop fenestrations. If you plant is small, it might not develop fenestrations till it grows bigger. If your plant is mature enough but still not developing fenestrations then that could be due to lack of sufficient lighting.

    The leaves of my monstera are turning almost completely brown, it does have 3 new baby leaves so its still alive but all the other leaves look like they are dying, what must I do with them? Cut them completely off from the start of the stem? Or only the leaves? Or leave them like this? Thank you for your help

Pruning is good for your monstera so you can cut off the brown spots, and feel free to trim the leaves in the shape they would grow to remove the dead parts.

    I've had my Monster for about 8 months now. She is my most favorite plant I have and just recently it has started to have these yellow spots underneath the leaves then they started to curl and now they're starting to droop. What do I do?!? help!! 😢🙏🏻 I did repot a few weeks before all these things started to happen! Don't know if it related but just thought I should mention it in case someone could help me.

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem +1

      It is very common for a plant to droop or slow down in growth after repotting as the plants may go in Transplant shock due to the change in its soil conditions. May be the soil that you used has harsh chemicals or was infected. Rinse the soil once with hydrogen peroxide solution and see if it helps. For concentration details, check out my video on uses of hydrogen peroxide. This will also kill any harmful bacteria or pests in the soil and provide a boost of extra oxygen to roots. I would suggest to take few healthy cuttings of the plant and place it in water, just in case the plant dies, you will still have some propogated cuttings.

    Is it a good idea to transplant the plant right after you buy it?

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem

      I would suggest to let your plant settle in the new environment first before giving the plant another shock by transplanting it straight away. Once the plant has adjusted to the new routine and new environment (light, water, air, ventilation, humidity etc) and starts showing some new growth, then you can repot it in a different pot. But still I would suggest you to repot when you see the roots coming out the drainage holes or the plant growth is stunted. Please check my video on "When to repot your plant" czcams.com/video/cuyXr77RrmM/video.html

      Hi Don, Sorry for late reply. Always check your plant soil before watering. If the soil feels moist then wait for few more days and reassess. If its dry then watering your plant. Thanks for watching. 🙂

    What soil is good for monstera

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Dhanashree, For monsteras, well draining soil is preferrable. You can make a potting mix using cococoir or cocopeat/ regular potting mix + Compost for nutrition + Perlite or coarse sand or pumice( whatever you have) for better drainage.

But within 3-4 days the tip of leaves have started turning inward...i don't understand the reason eventhough the plant is kept in a well lit balcony and is watered mindfully ..please help 🫠

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem +1

      Hi there, When a new plant is brought home, give some plant enough time to adjust itself to the new environment and conditions. After few weeks of purchase, ypu can repot into a bigger pot. But as you already did it, it might have gone inot transplant shock which is why its leaves are curling. It could also be due to low humidity or too much bright light. The leaves tend to curl to avoid water loss. May be move it to an area where it recieves indirect light. And let it settle in the new pot.

      Hi There, to repot your monstera you can use a potting mix with peatmoss or cococoir, perlite and compost. There are many already prepared potting mix bags available in the shops. For fertilizing, you can buy any complete liquid fertilizer for indoor plants or seaweed solution. I am not from UK but you can easily find these things in any plant store.

    I have a huge monstera that is constantly pushing out new growth year around but lately has been having the oldest leaves turning 'bleached' for color around the shape of the leaves. I do not over water as I check the soil daily. BUT, I have not repotted the plant in the three years I have had it. I am in a panick right now on what to do and what is wrong. PLEASE answer with suggestions. There is no logical reason for this. The plant has always had the same conditions it is happy in and it does not appear to be root bound. However, there is very little soil left because it has grown so large. WHAT DO I DO?

    • @Homemakr
      @Homemakr  Před rokem +1

      Hi Megan, I would suggest you to repot the plant. Sometimes , salt build up in the soil can also cause the leaf discolouration. Also, with time, soil tends to get compacted which can cause poor aeration to roots which can affect the leaves and plant. Repot your plant and see if the problem gets solved.
