    This helped me solve my mower issue upon reassembling my cleaned carb. I had the linkage in the wrong hold. You clearly showed where to install the linkage. Problem solved. THANKS

    Thanks for the video! I had the exact same problem with my linkage. I was about to give up when I found your video..

    Another nice freebie! Well done--some of that linkage can be a chore even (as in your case) when you know what you're doing. Nice reminder not to ever take anything for granted, especially on a machine that has been touched by others.

      Learning this trade on my own I have spend more time learning about springs that have been tampered with without my knowledge.

    I've got a 4.5hp Tecumseh on a lawn mower I purchased new in 1996. Same exact setup, so either that's a 1994, or they kept the same design for 12+ years.
    Made the same mistake putting my linkage back together the first time. Took me a few minutes to figure that one out.

    Great fix! those 80's an older Tecumseh's where a lot better than the later ones.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  Před 8 lety +1

      They look to be pretty good. I like that the tecumseh use the gravity carb rather than the top of the tank pump style briggs uses.

    I have a 1982 murray that I use to this day. The only thing of original parts that I need to replace is the green sponge filter. It starts every time.

    mine was a 92 and has the bolt on throttle cable rather than the plastic press fit cable on yours...therefore yours is more likely a 94...thanks for the vid.

    I had an Murray '84 with tecumseh engine and it didn't have the added deflector on it, instead the exit chute was shaped as part of the stamped deck itself. It also didn't have an engine cutoff bar on it that had to be held. I think this is a later version.

    If this lawn mower were a 1984 model, some most striking visual clues for you:
    TVS90 engine would have stamped-steel recoil starter
    Bare chrome handlebars

    Damn, I needed to see how you took all those linkages n' such off at high speed. I was given a used Murray over a decade ago that my aunt had bought in the 70s. All these years it starts first pull, unserviced, old gas, dirt and all. I"m finally cleaning it up but I'm not sure how to take springs and cable clips, etc. off without breaking them.

  • @farmboysgarage7595
    @farmboysgarage7595 Před 8 lety

    Man, I can't believe you found one that old. Most of them have been sent to the scrap yard. These things weren't very reliable when new. I remember my mother buying one in the late '80s or early '90s and it ran ok for 1 year and started giving trouble.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  Před 8 lety

      Apparently in the 80's you did not get the option to adjust you lawn height if you bought this model. One size fits all!

    • @farmboysgarage7595
      @farmboysgarage7595 Před 8 lety

      On the one my mother bought, you couldn't adjust the throttle either. Prime it and run it ;)

      Farmboy's Garage
      You may have answered a question for me about my son's Craftsman Eager-1 with a 4.5 Tecumseh engine that he dropped of at my barn/garage.
      My son said that it didn't run, and that he already had the carb off once, wiped it down, threw it back on the mower with no luck
      I said to my son "Well let's pull the carb off now and have a look" which got me a weird look, he said he had a date. My son is working 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week so I told him to go, and have fun
      I tore the carb off and rebuilt it, before I could put his carb back on, my mower decided to go belly up and puked gas out of the top of the bowl, the float was bad
      I figured that I would rebuild the carb that came off of my Tecumseh 4.5 HP engine. I tore my carb off and found out that my carb can't be rebuilt so I threw a new needle valve and seat in mine, got mine back together and went to my son's mower and threw his carb back on.
      I quickly realized that his didn't have the fancy tortoise and hare plate that mine has and I knew he didn't bring me any plate so I wondered how in the hell is he throttling the mower up and down
      Farmer's garage, I think you answered my question haaa and I called and emailed my son but after he is done working he goes home, showers, eats and passes out from exhaustion so I think you have saved me about 6-7 days of waiting on my son to answer me back

    I'm working on one exactly like that right now. Got it to start on the first pull. Same carb linkage configuration that you have. It's racing even at idle though. Can't figure it out. high /low screws have no effect. Any thoughts?

    Is there any chance you could give me a hint on a Murray 5 hp linkage (on a walk behind string trimmer)? This seems to be about carb cleaning. Your video ran through the parts on the linkage removal at high speed. Mine looks similar but has wire loops, extremely thin wires and a cover plate on top of the carb that seems to be connected to the linkage system.

    Hello there, I have a mower exactly like this one and you have to go by the model number on the mower deck sticker. Mine is a 9-20203 and has a 3.5hp tecumseh. The 9 stands for 89' and the model is a 20203.

    CORRECTION to my earlier comment about year manufacture designation. After checking some of my old units dating back to 1973 and checking my old shop manuals, it appears the high order position of the serial is the low order position of the year. Only the units position of the year is used and thus repeats every decade. The decade, century, and millennia are not displayed. So that mower could be any year that ends in 4.
