    I got a Chinese pwk knock off for a tuned two stroke bike. Lovely bit of kit runs sweet and cost £12 compared to£175 for original

    timing is off, I'd check the key between the shaft and the flywheel. It might be sheared some.

    Hope you are still following this video. At about the 5 min. mark, you put a cap on the crankcase breather hose port. There is usually a hose that attaches to that port and goes into the crankcase as I understand it. I guess you don't think that it is necessary or maybe that older mower didn't come with one in the first place. I just picked up a mower where the port is broken so a hose won't attach but it could be plugged. So my question is: in your experience, do you think that the port/hose is necessary for the proper running of the engine?

      on lawn mower I got, the fuel hose from fuel tank is connected there and gas just pours out of air filter. Maybe this was the problem...

  • @ghettohillbilly1
    @ghettohillbilly1 Před 9 lety +2

    I had almost the same exact mower, actually kinda funny the woman who used to own the house I live in now threw it out almost 10 years ago, i took it home gassed it up and it worked fine, so I gave it to my Dad, every spring I'd have to fix something, The fuel line collapsed on the inside restricting gas, the primer bulb dissolved, the safety cut off messed up so I bypassed it, making a wired cut off switch, the carb float got a hole so I replaced it, it didnt have an air filter and it tended to burbble oil from that o ring till I secured the pipe better, but other than that it was used and abused, until last year, Dad was having a hard time starting it so instead of fixing it I gave him my mothers old mower she no longer needed(also from the trash)and brought it home, i found it would run fine after you "primed" the carb with some gas so I used it as my shit mower all summer (for mowing rocky areas etc) then gave it away, it still works and the kid i gave it to will be using it this year to mow lawns, once the snow melts I'll do a vid on the honda mower i have at my moms, it was a barn find, with out a pull cord handle(just a knot in the cord) and a 6-8 inch pull it started almost everytime even after being outside all winter, cant wait till this snow melts and i can do some mower vids myself

    You don't have to replace the dipstick oring. Just loosen the screw on the shroud that holds the dipstick, put downward pressure on the dipstick, and tighten the screw back to the shroud. That should fix your leak.
    On the carbs that use the red straw; do not operate the engine without.
    Cut it down the to fit your air box if you need to, but do not remove the tube. It will cause problems. Apparently there needs to be a pressure differential between the venturi and the inside of the red tube.

      suchfunstuff thanks for the tips bud, honestly tecumseh mowers are a rarity, I hardly ever get them in.

    • @pontiachotshot
      @pontiachotshot Před 8 lety

      I know its kinda late but i found this out today.Sometimes you have to pull off that black plastic cap on the carb and adjust that jet for a smoother engine.

    • @suchfunstuff
      @suchfunstuff Před 8 lety

      That's not an adjustment, it's a removable jet orifice for the idle (when the carburetor is not drawing fuel through the power jet). I usually open them up a bit, but you need a fairly thin wire to get through the tiny opening in the small brass piece.

    • @pontiachotshot
      @pontiachotshot Před 8 lety

      suchfunstuff I just gave mine a couple turns out and it runs much better.

    • @suchfunstuff
      @suchfunstuff Před 8 lety

      I know what you mean. That's because when you loosen it away from its seat in the carb, you're allowing a space for fuel to bypass the fixed size hole. There's no spring behind the screw, so it might not stay in place (you don't want it to fall out while mowing).

    Did you ever get this engine running correctly, or better and if so, what more did you have to do to the engine?

    Some of those knockoff Tecumseh carbs have really bad reviews on Amazon. I found one that had good reviews and it was only $11.01 so I got 4 of them, still waiting on them in the mail. If they work well, I'll order up some more and keep them on hand. $10 for a brand new carb saves you the time of having to clean the old one out and then having a new carburetor is also a selling point when listing the mower. When a brand new carb is $10, it's hard to justify taking the time to rebuild the old one.

      hanksranger Thanks, those Tecumseh's can be problematic.

    • @25BEDFORD
      @25BEDFORD Před 7 lety +1

      Alan Marshall I know this is an old post, bit it may be beneficial for future inquiris. The Chinese knock offs are prone to leak in that the bowl dowel will not seal and restrict fuel from the tank from overflowing and leaking through filter. These carbs are good because they are cheap, and in this case good enough to sell so it will be someone else's problem. I used one on a Tecumseh 7hp and had leaking a month after installing, and with minimal use.

      What is a "Bowl dowel?"
      I am too honest to be a salesman. If something was wrong with anything that I am selling, I feel compelled to tell the potential buyer everything that I know about the item that I am selling.
      I tell them what is bad, going to go bad, as in it is beat up but has some time left, and I give a heads up on what's getting ready to go bad
      If I had to sell stuff to feed my family, we would all have starved to death quite a few years ago and I don't dicker or haggle over new items.
      A few of the local car salesman have found out that I don't dicker or haggle when I have asked the salesman for the best price they he/she can do.
      When I know that they didn't give me a good price or even try, I stand up and walk out and I know that I can do better somewhere else haaa

    • @earlbradbury3505
      @earlbradbury3505 Před 5 lety

      yes it is normal to be completely open the primer takes the place of the choke via raw fuel dribbling out the red hose into the throat of the carb when you push the primer
