We are restoring all the original doors, windows and hardware in our 110-year-old cottage as well as salvaging more from other homes in Texas. I knew paint removal and restoration process would take some time so during the April rain showers it was the perfect time to get started!

This series is my favorite thing on CZcams right now
Who else is so excited that she is almost at 1 million subscribers!!? She deserves like 30 million or even more!!❤️❤️
Omg you’re so sweet!! 🥰🥰🥰
I agree, sister. I love her videos and personality!
YES
Me, i became a fan when she started house hunting for her cottage.
So true💕she is such an inspiration!
Maybe a guest cottage in each colour? Xx
I really like the dark gray.
That was my thought too!
That's what I thought
@@RaeC5280 hey
3 guest houses + 3 siding colour choices = 3 different coloured houses with their own individual vibe instead of cookie cutter sameness. But I live on an island with pastel coloured houses as the norm. No two houses are the same.
MaCenna sounding like a Disney princess while being passionate about doorknobs is my favorite thing
What if you choose all 3 for the side paneling? Each one gets one of the 3 colors. When you held them side by side, I thought it was such a pretty color story. You’re also trying to keep each one unique inside so I thought maybe different exteriors would be cute too. Each color kind of compliments each other.
I thought the same thing!! They all coordinate so well together with her theme too 🤩
I also thought the same (:
YESS
Or stripe the three colors! (... don't actually do that)
Girl this just needs to be a tv show! I’m just so happy that you are providing this beautiful content each week!! Love you for it!! So good
My lovely Macenna, always wear glasses when you take off the paint with the striper on. I got a little peace of paint once in my eye, it burned like hell and I had to go to the hospital to make sure I didn't damage my eye! Much, much love from Greece!!
And gloves too.
Very true, I’ve damaged my eyes too and it’s not nice
Hi Macenna, you must be careful with old pictures you have. Hot water and others liquoid can damech it.
you put in so much effort in you work, ur editing, filming and everything else shows how much u love ur work and how hardworking u r, so damn motivating, ur videos helped me alot! thank you.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your comment 🥰🥰🥰
Me literally at the end of every episode:
"NO DON'T GOOOO! I want to watch more!"
🙋
Ugh saaame
same!!!
Same !!!
Hahahha same here!
Use thicker amount of paint remover and place plastic wrap over it to keep it from drying out. Good Luck. Love u
Get a small party tent, you know the ones with just a roof, then you can work outside when its raining. Thank you for all the inspiration! Love from Sweden ❤️
My ADHD truly admired your thorough organizational skills! Its inspiring 🌷
From Donna. I am 75 years old and always enjoy your videos. You are so talented, ambitious, enthusiastic and a joy to watch. Love how you pronounce mortice. It is actually pronounced mortiss, but you go ahead and be your unique self and do what you want. Look forward to seeing how the cottage turns out.
Im a 73 yr old fan. Her enthusiasm is so contagious
Watching you going over the glasses again and again is like watching myself trying to make a decision 😂
Girl, your Mom saved you on those glasses! I was going to leave you a comment to GO BACK AND BUY THOSE GLASSES!!! Great video. Thanks for bringing us with you on this fun project!
If you put on plastic wrap on the paint stripper and leave it overnight it literally comes off in chunks, it's so easy. Love your videos girl, keep up the great work 🥰 I can't wait to see the end result
Yes, plastic wrap is a great help when stripping. If the stripper dries out, it stops working. (Especially when it starts to get warmer in Texas.) Plastic wrap will prevent it from drying out too soon. It's a lot of work but it will be gorgeous.
Yes! Buy the roll at home depot. Super cheap and much more effective
All I can think about is that this home is going to be worth millions when you're done with it, you've got such a great eye for restoration and design. Well done with coming this far!
I know I absolutely adore you and your personality if I can watch you compare 7 different shades of white on the outside of your house and be genuinely interested ♥️
🤣😂😅
Hahaha thank you 🥰
You need Saran Wrap. Put the stripper on the section of the door thickly. Cover with Saran Wrap. Leave it for awhile. You will waste less stripper and will work so well. The stripper won’t dry out and will work much faster. Do not use the steel brush. It will really open the pores of the wood.
Glasses break doll! Having extras are always a bonus when that happens. Momma is always right!!!
you don’t know how much I love your CZcams and I rushed to this video I just watch every time u post u are truly one of my favorite CZcamsrs
Wow thank you so much!! That means so world to me 😭
@@XOMaCenna he didn’t lie 😩😩😭
@@XOMaCenna your welcome and I’m sure ur cottages will come together beautifully
I’m so excited for this journey lol. I strip/repaint often and use Citristrip. It works like magic and its non caustic so you don’t have to use a mask! It has a citrus smell to it.
She is so much better at both editing and diying than other huge diy youtubers she deserves 10 million subscribers!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love you Maccena😘
Omg you leaving 4 of the glasses for a complete set for somebody else is just the best, sweetest thing ever. After I wrote this you went back and got all of them that was so nice you thought about that ☺️
i had the exact same thought, haha! always great to have extra glasses though
you leaving a set of 4 glasses for someone else says a lot about you as a person.. thats so kind of you
I was thinking that too. So thoughtful.
Agree!! A person with a GREAT ❤️
lol.... And then she bought them.
Love you so much. What a heart you have. I can't wait till you have a whole door done. Hardware and all.
@@thewadsquad yes all 4 of them.. thats kinda the point
I'm glad you went back a bought the glasses. I'm closer to your mother's age, and I remember the days when we would entertain a large group of people, using our best china etc. My mother always told me to buy 13 of everything, because then you could serve 12 guests, and have one extra. I remember the very first time I had a dinner party, someone dropped a salad plate and broke it!! Now all these beautiful pieces live in my china cabinet. My mother passed away, and she had 13 pieces of every style of glassware possible. I used some pieces to decorate for Christmas....
I love that she's putting so much thought into even the smallest details!
Hey MaCenna!
For the doors you don’t have to pour the stripper into a metal can you can just pour it over the door and even it out with a brush. You also want to make sure you lather a lot of stripper onto the door and make sure it doesn’t dry out. This will take the pain of easier and you’ll be able to use the plastic scrapper with no issues. It should look gooey when you’re removing it.
For the metal plates try using Barkeepers Friend on them to clean and polish them and see how you like them!
Good luck 😊💜
I can't tell you how much I look forward to these videos🥰
Omg thank you!!!
LOL, get all four glasses! Remember things break! I recomend 12 of everything!
Look up the kind of paint stripper that "Chris Loves Julia" (on their blog) used when they painted their kitchen cabinets. The paint practically just fell off; you'll save so much time!
MeCenna, you have a lot of doors to strip. Maybe try looking for someone local that can sandblast the paint off of them. By the way, I love your channel! You’re so cute and fun to watch.
I feel like I'd be the type to make the picture chart And go back to the thrift store too... totally relatable :-)
A door spreadsheet!? You are my kinda girl🥰
Kinsley at the end “girl, you do your thing, imma do mine”🤣
Loving your cottage refurbishment and your work ethos. Every time you look at finished doors you will forever appreciate all the hard work and restoration 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Did anyone else go directly to the Devil wears Prada scene with the two belts when she was like “too dark and too green and they’re all pretty much the same colour”
Ohhh yeah!!! For a moment I thought o was color blind hahahahaha
Would leave the door plates the natural metal - is beautiful
I love love love that you are willing to restore old hardware rather than buy new. A woman after my own heart!
watching you leaving the 4 glasses behind was like: oh so sweet of her to leave a full set behind, but i think she just forgot she's about to be the owner of 4 cottages! 10 glasses aren't that many!
oh, i would love to come over and help out with the doors and knobs! It must be so fulfilling and therapeutic!
You are such a positive inspiration, such a beautiful soul!
Lots of love from Bolivia!

I’ve never clicked on a video so fast ♥️

MaCenna: trudging through restoring all those doors and hardware in the rain
Me: worrying about that poor picture getting steamed!😆
Same!
You need to apply a thicker layer of paint stripper. You'll know the paint is ready to scrape off when it has all bubbled up and it will come off very easy and quickly!
In a world of CZcams DIYers IKEA hacks and everything mid-century modern, seeing your care over finding and restoring antiques and one-of-a-kind pieces is beautiful and refreshing to watch. I love that you have such a passion for historic pieces and giving them the glory they deserve!
I saw a hack online that if you place a rubber band over the rusted screw it will create a tighter fit and more traction to unscrew the rusted nail. I love everything you are doing!!!!
Just what I needed, an update on the cottage!
Yes, trying to reuse as much as possible and have a great custom result, does need a lot of work and planning! Great job!
hi macenna, I can definitely recommend putting a thicker layer of the stripper on and it will come off so much easier
Yes I second this! And if it’s hot or you want to leave it on for several hours you can put cling wrap on top so it doesn’t dry and a lot of times the paint will come off when you pull off the cling wrap!
I also suggest using citrustrip, I’ve always had the most success using that brand
Oh yayyy!!! I’m living for this series!! 😍
Yay!!! Thank you so much 😘
I’m watching you scrape the paint off that door in the rain thinking oh poor MaCenna! I wish you could just drop them off somewhere and have them done for you but I know you’re trying to save money. And this appears to be quite the labor of love for you. ❤️❤️❤️ So happy for you and loving this series!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly... MaCenna you should make all three of the cottages those siding colors!!
All three of those colors complemented so well!
Can’t believe how hard you are working! It’s really paying off 🥰
I love that you’re restoring and using as much as you can instead of using new. I know with some strippers covering them with plastic keeps it from drying as it does it’s thing. It makes the paint come off without so much scraping. You can use old shopping bags too.
I love those doors and door knobs as well as vintage glass door knobs.Very detailed and organized MaCenna! Beautiful project.
I can't wait to see the whole house come together! The doors and all the hardware might be taking a long time but they are going to be the little touches that make your home stand out. The doors are going to be so beautiful when finished!
Every time I watch I think about how hard you work alone to make your dreams come true be safe and much success
I know you want to do it all yourself , but there is so much you'll be doing that taking the doors in to have them professionally stripped is a huge blessing. One you'll not regret. Also, since it's been damp there, storing the doors flat in a dry environment stacked for weight will keep them from warping.
Currently restoring an 1885 italianate by the the beach in New Jersey and the clips of you trying to get one doorknob off with no avail for 15 minutes then the other one coming right off made me crack up because our house is the same way haha.
MaCenna, I am living vicariously through you! 😂 Those door knobs are EVERYTHING! Great job so far! I’m glad you picked up the glass cups. I was speaking to you through my television, “oh no, what if a glass breaks and you can’t find them later?” You are such a beautiful soul and deserve this!
You are SO organized! You're amazing!
Be careful scraping that paint. It's probably lead based.
For rusted screws, spray on a penetrating oil (WD40), let set for half an hour. Penetrating oil is designed to work its way into tiny spaces.
WOW!!!! MaCenna you have your work cut out for you!! The time you have in all those photos just of the doors and flip pics of knobs.. is astonishing!! When it is all said and DONE, you girl need a HUGE APPLAUSE!! I know these cottages will be breathtaking beautiful!! No one could ever say you were lazy!! 🌿 keep going we are watching!!
Your dedication to recycling all the materials you possibly can is outstanding! Such tedious work but these beautiful pieces of history are so worthy of the effort! ❤
You need to put a lot more stripper on the doors. Make a thick layer, and it will scrape off like butter. There is also a citrus based stripper I use, I'm not sure what the name is in America but I know you can get it there, but it works an absolute treat. You won't regret it in terms of the time it will save you. I love stripping the paint off furniture and doors - it's so incredibly satisfying watching the wood come back. Have fun!
Tip...put plastic wrap on top of the paint stripper and leave overnight then it slides right off with the plastic scraper. Makes the process go much faster. Also if you use vinegar to soak the hardware it will take off the crude well too. 😊
I also use the Citrustrip which is not as toxic
This video really scratches a specific itch in my brain. I love obsessing over ridiculous details (but that totally make a difference). Man this was so satisfying
Can I just say. Not only am I utterly obsessed with all your videos but the LEVEL of editing and time and care that you put in is just something else. Keep doing you girl xx
You need to leave that paint stripper on longer than it says...also don't let it dry out because then it won't be able to penetrate through the paint. I used citri-strip on my cabinets and was able to use that stuff indoors. I hope this helps!
You are such a hard worker in terms of your cottage renovation process, editing the videos and keeping us engage with yourself... Your energy is really something I appreciate all the time and that cute real smile on your face... Best of luck for your cottage and guest cottage series... We are with you... Much love and appreciation ❤️
Macenna is putting so much effort and love in every details it's crazy :) She is even cooking her house xD
a tip to make stripping the paint off your doors a bit easier and make it go by quicker. Apply more of the stripper to the doors, use a very liberal amount. The goal is to keep the stripper wet, even after the 15 minutes are up. If you let it dry like you had in some parts in this video it will take more work to remove. Also, use a product called mineral spirits and that brush to clean off the residue left after you strip your paint. "that shabby guy" on youtube is a great resource to see how to do it. hope this helps!
I can not wait to see what every item will look like. This is a labor of love and you will have a beautiful home.
Just a quick fix for stripped screws. Place a thick rubber band over the head of your screwdriver and press hard straight down onto the head of the screw. Works like a charm. Good luck.
Every new video im let with a feeling that everything she wants to do it's going to take so long... But she is going so fast with this renos is amazing!!! I love it, im so engaged
I’m so glad you got the rest of the glasses it was bothering me 😂
So glad you went back for those glasses!!
Im SO GLAD you went back for ALL THE GLASSES!!!!
Hey! Unless the product you use tell you otherwise, apply some cling wrap on the door after you've apply the stripper. Some of the substance won't evaporate as quickly, and could work even more efficiently on the wood. Try using steel wool in to scrape off the paint in the smaller/detailed area of the door. I hope these tricks will help you same a bit of time!
Don’t you just love those blue flowers? I’ve been in Texas for 3 years and this is my first year seeing them! They’re so pretty dried, too!
Cobblestone 100%. It's softer and more inviting.
I really wish I could hit the “👍🏻” more than once!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 the glass saga. But your mum is right, with vintage glassware finding replacements is difficult nigh impossible. This is how restoration and reuse should be done, amazing 🤩
Love the door plates and I absolutely agree with your mom - $8 (really the difference of $4) isn't worth the regret! I highly recommend Bar Keepers Best Friend to clean your plates that are brass after you remove the paint. It will help restore them to the original glory and over time will still tarnish beautifully.
These doors are a labor of love! Looking forward to seeing them all done.
HOW ARE YOU SO PUT TOGETHER!! It's literally amazing, I'm in a trance. Love this series!!
So random but you remind me of the Olsen twins and I freakin loved them when I was young! Super comforting 😂😂😂
I absolutely love watching your channel..I like how carefree and cheerful you are...your channel makes me happy thank you
Wow.... LOVED how easy the paint came off. I absolutely LOVE WATCHING your videos, I brought a old home and move in 6 weeks and I am sooooo excited to be able to renovate. You are like my soul sister at heart x
Quick tip, try putting on lots more paint stripper! You can just pour it straight from a can and spread it around with the brush, but the coat should be very thick. Also btw mortise is pronounced MOR-tiss! :)
For the doors apply a little bit more of stripper and add plastic wrap after application. Use also a metal scrapper instead plastic.
I restored furniture and that how easy I make it works. The metal plates it is so short time of you boiled them 50/50 water and white vinegar mix. Then buff with bar keeper.
I think you should go with the cobblestone siding for the new builds since you are using white for the main house. That way they are still light but not competing with the main house or looking too matchy.
Using a rubber band for stripped screws is a good way to unscrew them. If you need this in the future!
YaY!!!so glad you posted a video today💕😋been sooo excited to see all the renovations on the cottage
I sometimes watch your videos 2-3 times. I just need calm and cuteness in my life.
I like the cobble stone hardy plank color. I love what you are doing, you have great taste, looks so fun!
Have a great week!
seeing you restore and build this home is my absolute highlight of the week, i love your videos! and it's so lovely to see someone salvage and reuse as much as possible. you are an absolute champion renovating, filming and editing it all! 💪🏼❤️
“Number one goal is to inspire people”........so well said. Just became a convert to your channel.
I love the fact that you restore everything instead if buying some New. That will give to the house what we call in french (du cachet) 👍👏❤️
Hey Macenna! I have a jewelers’ trick for removing tarnishing/oxidation from metal things: you can put them in a solution of 1cup distilled white vinegar : 1 tbsp of sea salt in that crock pot you have. It removes tarnishing really quickly!
