In fifth grade, we decorated clean milk cartons and made a little snow village for the whole school to look at. We put lights in them and the "neighborhoods" were separated by class. It's one of my favorite memories from elementary school. Your village is very cute!

I worked at a school as an teachers aide and this was one of my favorite memories. We used clean milk cartons, graham crackers, icing, and candy to make little gingerbread houses. This is one of my fondest memories. The students were so proud of their creations :)

A few silly ideas for you: Maybe use fish tank gravel for cobblestone paths? The tree/sleigh would look great trailing behind the Santa (I believe he has an outstretched arm behind him with an open/gripping hand? Use a leather lace to attach from the sleigh to his hand? Antiqued mirror always makes a great ice skating rink - cheap at Joann's, cut to fit or just lay in and surround with more of your "fluffy snow"! Looks great!

At a pass job, the boss's wife would build a Christmas village in his office on his credenza. For the ice skating rink, she would use a small mirror without a frame. She'd then cover the edges with the "snow". It really looked nice.

  • @debbiedouglas7439

Love your village. A little tip for you, if you use books under your snow you can elevate your houses so it they have different heights. The book tucked under snow can be staggered and made to look like steps going up to the house. Then when you add your trees you get different heights with your forest. Just a suggestion. Can’t wait for Sunday!

Your village is adorable ❤ if the craft store doesn’t have what you need for the stepping stones, you can look in the garden section for fairy garden stepping stones, and maybe even a little bridge , also I’ve used larger terrarium stones and made a pathway from those in my actual fairy garden ❤ Can’t wait to see the bedroom ! I’ve also used an old mirror as an ice rink for my village …

Looks lovely. In Spain there is a very strong tradition of setting nativity scenes, everyone has one in their house (plus in public buildings they are everywhere) and some get extremely elaborate, not only with lights but also with little fake fires, rivers with real water and moving figurines and parts. And this reminds me of a Nativity scene, I like it a lot.

My grandma used to have a Christmas village that she would put up every year! It was huge! It covered every windowsill in her living room and on top of her piano, onto the buffet. It was one of my favorite childhood Christmas memories. It had a little ice skating rink where the skaters moved and a santa sleigh that flew. Now that she is passed I really miss it, so watching this brought up so many fun memories. Maybe I'll have to pull out her collection and set it up again :')

MaCenna, I wanted to thank you so much for your holiday village inspiration. You helped me look at my holiday decorating with a new eye and I put together a holiday village with a light up church, Christmas tree and Santa on my hall table. I gave all my Christmas stuff to my son and gkids, and sized down from 4000 sf to 420 sf. I designed my own wall quilt which will hang over two oil paintings, but it is more of a Winter Solstice look... snow and evergreen trees. I have a 6' long cabinet, though, which is edged and covered in gravel with a horsehair ceramic seated Indian woman, a pothos ivy in a muted color ceramic vase, and a few rocks. Your village has me realize I could make a 6' Christmas scene. Full stop for seasonal decorations in this teensy home 😂
Realistically I would have trouble finding storage for too many seasonal items. Maybe just add a live garland and compost it after Christmas? A little late since the hill is snowed in!

I’m just starting a Christmas village too using houses from a brand called Lemax. I only have 3 items so far, the plan is to get a new one each year and build it over the years. Yours looks adorable ❤

Hobby shops for trains have little people and on their things to make it seem like a village. Park benches around the skate rink. Street lights you can probably find lots of ideas there.

I dont know who is cuter. You and your joy setting up the winter village or Romeos reaction to the winter village or Kinsley coming to you over your shoulder with her bottle cap wanting to play!

Watching you make your village was like watching little girls play with a dollhouse. So many memories come flooding back. 🥰. A small mirror piece of glass would make a frozen pond. Joann’s, Michael’s, and Hobby Lobby have all the little things.

You can always leave the plastic up on the doors so we can't see in, if you don't want to be as worried about revealing things! I love the little village. My grandmother and I would always set up her christmas village every year. It was so elaborate. We would make hills with books and things and the snow, and my FAVORITE part was the ice skating rink that actually had skaters what would skate around the rink. After she passed, one of my cousins took the whole village, and I still miss it.

When I married my hubby he owned a huge Christmas village they would set up on top of their kitchen cupboards since they had a cathedral ceiling in that area. Since we have moved to a smaller home we select some of the pieces and build a small village on top of one of our pieces of furniture much like you have. Since he had thumb surgery a few weeks ago we are foregoing the village this year so thank you for sharing yours so we can live vicariously through you!

If after you’ve painted your bedroom and you find the white door to much of a contrast, you could consider using the reteak ( think I’ve spelt this wrong ) product the you used on the vanity in the bathroom it would match the beams, give an old world charm and sadly stink you house out.
