They hated that Al was a traditional Minnesota left-wing Democrat (like the late Sen. Paul Wellstone was) and that he was smart and funny enough to criticize the Republican shiftshow in Congress and get away with it. He couldn't refuse to step down because that would have given Republicans the opportunity to compare him to the likes of Roy Moore.

Being a Texas Democrat, I had adopted Al Franken as my senator.
Having Lyin' Ted Cruz (and mostly useless John Cornyn), as our Texas senators, it was fun and therapeutic. Seriously - I liked Al from watching him in sessions of the Senate on C-Span. Our party is sometimes so politically correct that it cripples us!

I have always considered myself to have a claim of coming from Minnesota. My great great grandparents homesteaded in the area around Montevideo. They had 12 children and helped build the first church. My great grandmother, my grandmother, my mother and I were all born in Montevideo. We came to CA when I was 5 .I was so proud Al came from the state of my roots. Remember he wanted hearings regarding claims and was denied. He left. He is on utube a lot and I always watch him.

Still miss him as our Senator. I've seen him a couple of times in person and he always seemed pretty nice. Almost convinced me once to join the Democratic party and considering that I want nothing to do with political parties that's pretty good.
