I look forward each week to your lessons. You should know that this seemingly "small and simple" step I took to watch the first lesson you both teach from Come Follow Me has indeed deepened my understanding and love of the Book of Mormon. I thank you so much for your time and insights each week. How blessed I have been by your selfless sacrifice in helping me and countless others better understand this miraculous book and how it applies to our everyday lives. God bless you both.

While serving a mission for the Church in the late eighties I had a companion who told me an amazing story about how chiasmus converted him to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We were serving in the Canada, Montreal mission which was French speaking and he was from France. He was also a Jew. His father was a Rabbi and he had been in training to follow in his father’s footsteps, so his conversion to another faith resulted in his expulsion from all family ties. Considering the price he paid, I think his testimony bears significant weight.
He told me that he had spent three years in Jerusalem at the finest rabbinical schools learning to become a Rabbi. In the course of their studies he had read in depth the canonical books of all the major world religions. He was back home working in his father’s synagogue when two Mormon missionaries knocked on the door of the synagogue. During their conversation he was introduced to the Book of Mormon, so he saw this as a chance to really show these missionaries a thing or two. He asked to have a copy to read, with the intent to apply the critical analysis to it that he was taught to do with those “sacred” texts he studied at Rabbinical school in Jerusalem. Well, the more he read of the Book of Mormon, the more he became convinced it had to have been written by a Jew! The style of writing so closely mirrored ancient Hebrew literary styles. (Chiasmic pun :-) He then showed me several places were chiasmus was clearly used and how it was a regular theme throughout the book. It is interesting to think about how unique every conversion to the restored gospel is. The Spirit knows our hearts and what moves us, and something of this nature, the literary structure of the Book of Mormon that I would never even have noticed, was just the right incentive to get my companion’s attention in order for him to seriously consider the book. To think that God has accounted for all such possibilities in the coming forth of the Book of Mormon is just astounding!

As I look back on my conversion to the restored gospel, I am amazed at the simple and small things/means that were placed before me that lead to my conversion and baptism. A Joseph Smith pamphlet that was given to my sister-in-law (non-member) who happened to be staying the night with us, a weekend visit with my wife's grandmother (convert) who shared some basic tenets of belief she held regarding Joseph Smith, the 3 degrees of glory in Heaven, and the preexistence. Those and other small and simple things lead my wife and I to get baptized back in 1989 and we have never looked back since. What beautiful and amazing and merciful things Heavenly Father provides for His children.

I have seen multiple presentations by professors and instructors I admire and enjoy - Jack Welch enters the room, and these scholars, eminent and intelligent and entertaining presenters in their own right, are transformed by his presence. The rapport and obvious respect and adoration they have for this mentor and friend of theirs...it's precious to see, every time.

I am so grateful for these two videos this week because of the comprehension I attained. I was even able to get additional insights into how this is the language of our God - even the Plan of Salvation is a chiasmus. Thank you so much for the hard work all of you do to bring this information to us.

He has directed me to do certain things that I would not have ever done. Similar to your job situation. Marrying my husband, joining the church, having children (my second child was, what I would consider, a miracle to an answer of a prayer), jobs, people that were brought into my life, the fact that I had cancer when I did, and so many other situations. Thank you for bringing this "small and simple" things to my mind. I have been truly blessed.

Thank you again brethren! Excellent as usual! Brother Welsh, really has been an instrumental pioneer in discovering Chiasmus in the Book of Mormon. It is significant for the church, since it adds evidence that the Book of Mormon is true, and Joseph Smith could not have made up this ancient Hebrew form of poetry. I remember watching that wonderful video on how the revelation came to Brother Welsh, and how this discovery would be his "life's work" so humbling and inspiring. Thank you brethren and thank you Brother Welsh!

Thank you for inviting br. Welsh and would like to thank him for his extensive presentation. For me, reading in chiasm is so much clearer because it excludes everything that the goal would miss if you read a part. Well, my dear prophet Joseph Smith could never have found this writing style by himself.
Yes, when our H.Father wants to protect you or to steer you in a certain direction, He clearly does that. That's how He put words in my mouth that I never thought I'd ever have to say this. My life then resolutely took a different turn because He had so decided
. I know He love me and us of cause!

Powerful discussion on this specific Scripture Block. Wow, what a treat to hear Jack Welch discuss in detail Chiastic writing with Alma 36 as the backdrop. After hearing him in this broadcast, I went back and re-read Earl Wunderli's article on "Critique of Alma 36 as an extended Chiasm." For me, the SIGNIFICANT detail that Mr. Wunderli's critique missed was "The Message" of centering around Jesus Christ at the Turning Point or Crossing. Jack Welch emphasized this very well, especially in the podcast. One other point that MAY be relevant from Chapter 38 with Corianton, one of the First problems leading up to his immoral behavior was PRIDE. I think PRIDE is a denial of the FALL and the NEED for the ATONEMENT or our DEPENDENCY on CHRIST. Corianton and some of today's youth can realize that in vs.12, Satan is the King of Idleness, BUT he is NEVER Idle !! Thank you T&T Brothers.

I love how Alma emphasized the small & little things which will lead to greater principals. I am grateful how Alma the Younger counseled Shiblon to bridle all his passions (exercise restraint) in all things) too frequently we can become overzealous in various things that are important to us & we need to moderate our enthusiasm so that we don't offend others.

We have watching your "Come Follow Me" presentations since we have been confined at home this year. We have greatly appreciated the insights you give in your discussions of the week's readings. In our study, we watch your video and some of the KnoWhy's, I read a section in the Book of Mormon in the Grant Hardy formatted of the Book of Mormon or the Scripture Plus version with its sections, my wife will then read commentary for her The Book of Mormon Study Guide, and then we will discuss what we have just read. A few weeks ago we found your John Welch's notes at Book of Mormon Central. I have loved his notes to give additional insights.
I loved your having John Welch there to talk about Chiasmus in Alma 36 and the Book of Mormon.
This past December, when I knew we were going to reading the Book of Mormon this year, we were at Deseret Book and I saw Grant Hardy's Maxwell Institute Study Edition of The Book of Mormon. I told my wife I need a copy of it. It had the things that I had been looking for in a format for the Book of Mormon for over 40 years. (Your Book of Mormon Central version has many of these same features,)
    1. Written in paragraphs
    2. Sections with section headings to let us know what we will be reading in the next section
    3. The poetry formatted as prose
    4. Original chapters as in the 1830 edition.
Additional things I wish it had:
1, All of the chiasmus formatted with indentations (Like you showed today.) (Can you do this with your electronic Book of Mormon Central edition?)
    2. Printed on scripture paper with a nice binding.
Thanks for all you have been doing for us.

I appreciate the diagramming of Chiasmus. I had learned about this maybe 20 years ago in a Gospel Doctrine class. The visual of the block is text, then highlighting the repeated words and assembling them in order, was visually stimulating.

Brother Griffin, you probably don't remember me, but I remember you. I was one of your students at Box Elder High School, and I am SOOOOOO happy to have found this channel. It was in fact by something small and simple that my husband came across it, and I have enjoyed watching immensely. It's been pretty amazing to be able to be a "student" again and learn in a way that I haven't had the opportunity of learning in a long time. It gives me a different perspective and a better way of letting the spirit wash over me and teach me deeper and more profound gospel principles. Thank you so much, you and Taylor are amazing and I look forward to everything to come.

I have been impressed with the memory of Alma and others in the Book of Mormon.
For example after hearing Abinadi, Alma writes down evidently from memory what Abinadi said. Alma then uses what he wrote to teach others.
It seems that since they had an oral tradition, part of the reason they organized their comunications as they did was to help people remember what you said.
The history of people in cultures like that were often past down orally from one generation to the next.
But it's also enfisized, in The Book of Mormon how important it was to have a written record.
I have wonder how well I would have done if I had had to write down every thing Abinadi had said, I'm glad it was Alma & not me, who was given that task.
Thank you for this wonderful lesson. I learn so much from your lessons. It was wonderful to learn from your guest today. I'm greatful for Book of Mormon Central. 💒

These three chapters are amongst my favourites from the entire Book of Mormon. I am reminded of my father's conversion story in 1961 here in Scotland. His many years of faithful service through a multitude of small and simple things. I'll never forget his regular, patient words of wisdom and counsel to me throughout my life - just like Alma to his sons. There is lots of powerful counsel in those chapters for all of us to live by today. Thanks again!

Tonight before watching this video, when I started my scripture reading had this impression, why am I reading the book of Mormon? The thought came to mind, I want to draw close to God, I want to learn truth.
Because I have this idea that I have to read it daily a check box to tick off. I'm missing the purpose and reason because the real need isn't internalized.
There is power in the Book of Mormon when our intent for reading it is internalized thus the natural approach is a serious study of it.
As Alma has said ye shall reap the rewards of your faith, and your diligence, and patience, and long-suffering through discovering the Lord through the Book of Mormon.

Smack dab in the middle of the Book of Mormon (pages 265-266) is the answer to the geography question. The symmetry of the region's geography is evident there.
