I really look forward to learning from Rabbi Joe ❤

I have read the Book of Mormon every day for over 38 years only missing 65 days. I’ve probably spent more time in Alma chapter 30 than any other chapter as it’s been incredibly insightful for our day and instructive regarding not only what our adversary teaches but how to counteract those teachings. I truly appreciate Rabbi Joe’s insight into this today. After all these years, I can still learn something from someone who sees it from another perspective. Thank you!

Korihor’s story has always resonated deeply with me. The Rabbi’s take is an awesome pivot I hadn’t considered.

It is interesting that Korihor lays out Social Darwinism, and Alma debunks it on religious grounds. Yet Social Darwinism wasn't something being dealt with im Joseph Smith Jr.'s day. The Book Of Mormon was Copyrighted and published before Charles Darwin ever set foot on the H.M.S. Beagle to start his journey of discovery that would lead to his books Origin Of A Species 1857 and The Descent Of Man 1871, that would eventually lead to Social Darwinism in the late 1880s to early 1890s, which has been a major problem in our day and age ever since. Now if Joseph Smith Jr.'s made up the whole thing using sources around him, why and how did Joseph Smith Jr. include a theory created decades after his death, that was completely unknown in his time? Two possible explanations, either he had help from someone from the future and likely others from the past, meaning everything he wrote is true, or he had help from the one who knows the end from the beginning, namely God the Father, meaning everything he wrote is true.

This lesson was a gift. Toda raba Rabbi Joe. I'm not sure I shared this before, but the last few years I've been praying to God to open a way for me to find a rabbi to study Torah with. I've felt a strong prompting to deepen my understanding of the Gospel through Hebrew eyes. Everything I've learnt to date of Judaic thought has been nothing short of enriching. It dawned on me after watching your video last week, that I didn't need to go to synagogue to find a rabbi any longer - God has brought a rabbi to me! To us! And a rabbi who is willing to study our scripture with us! Now that is truly something remarkable and a very wonderful blessing that I do not take lightly. Your lessons always touch me very deeply. I know that I have to bury things/experiences in order to move forward to become closer to Christ. But equally I have to dig some things up and address them, so I can go forward on the covenant path. Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom.

Korihor taught an ancient version of Marxism. His arguments were these: 1) There is no God. 2) Because there is no God everything devolves into power and whoever can get it through their genius or management skills. 3) The Nephite society was built by men who laid down institutions, social structures, and beliefs that were calculated to keep them in power and keep others in oppression and exploitation. 4) Korihor was there to raise the people’s consciousness to the fact that they were not free, but rather they were really in bondage to these men and the institutions that they set up. 5) Coming to a consciousness of their bondage was the first step to their freedom. 6) Korihor was there to Liberate them and call them to a revolution against the societal norms and institutions. This is a perfect description of Marxism. Interesting that you brought up President Benson. He saw the warning against Marxism and Critical Theory in the Book of Mormon and he spoke out against it. Critical Theory is still one of the biggest threats of our time and it is growing in the Church and Church schools. Some are starting to realize this.

Before 1984 there was the Book of Mormon. I’ve actually been doing a 1984 theme in my study as I’ve read the Book of Mormon this time. I guess the spirit is showing the same thing to others.

Rabbi, your perspective of Korihor and how this applies to us plus the hope that comes because of your comments on Proverbs and the privilege of personal thought was impressive and enlightening. As you said, lots here to unpack. Thank you Rabbi!

Merely consulting the history of the U.S. and world over the past 300 years puts to rest the false doctrines of both of these organizations rather quickly. Both are fraudulent agents of deception that do not afford due respect to the Gospel and Our Lord. It makes a lot of sense that Joseph Smith was a Freemason.

I love the fact they never said that they didn't see the golden book and other things. Movies made from journals even saying how they had to come out more than once ,after leaving Joseph Smith, state Truthful facts!

March 1842 Smith was raised to Master Mason "on sight". Making one "A Mason on Sight" is generally reserved as an honor and is a rarity in occurrence. Having friends in high places helps too. 1843 Smith established 5 lodges. The lodges were voting on more than one candidate at a time, not requiring proficiency in each degree before proceeding to the next degree , in many cases, initiates were being passed to the Fellowcraft degree and raised to the Master Mason degree within two days of being initiated as an Entered Apprentice, not paying dues and engaging in criminal activity. The members and charters were suspended or revoked. Smith claimed he didn't borrow/steal/incorporate from the Masons for his temple ceremony. Smith claimed "God utilizes your culture and environment to reveal things to you in ways you’ll understand" Very smooth for a con man. I would say Gods truth is Gods truth regardless of your culture and environment.

King Benjamin's speech did not mention these parts. Is these mentioned in Alma's speech (Mosiah 27 or Alma 5)? 23:28 Ammon will talk about, I was in the darkest abys, or they were snatched. They saw a marvelous light. He talks about singing the redeeming love. These are all phrases from King Benjamin's speech.
