Call of Duty has NO ICONIC CHARACTERS? That is the biggest bruh moment I've ever seen
I come here before this comment gets like 8000 likes.
Edit: This comment aged really well
Here pretty quick
Yo Act Man I’ve been watching since you were a semi small channel. Congrats on your amazing growth and success.
Act man and angry joe keep it real
It's time to take the gloves off...
Imagine not knowing who Captain Price is, and being in charge of a Call of Duty game. Unbelievable.
Results in this pile of diarrhoea. Whoulda thunk it.

This is what happens when you put Gen Z in charge of a nearly 20 year old legendary game franchise. You get dog shit.
I'd be more worried if they didn't know who Alex Mason was.
@@LethalByChoice these are millennials in charge of the game I'm pretty sure lmao
The whole 4th Reich idk was a huge missed opportunity. Imagine if once that happened, Vanguard team gets tasked w/ hunting down Nazi’s in actual countries that are known to or allegedly harbored Nazi’s after WW2 (Spain and Argentina for example). They would be performing the first unsanctioned missions into “neutral countries”, essentially becoming the first black ops unit which would tie in w/ the new story there telling in Warzone.
This sounds better than the whole vanguard story and would even make more sense lmao
Would have been nice
This is a great idea

A German soldier seeing a black British commando prisoner and then just laughing at him, would be 10 million times more effective than any shitty 5 minute speech about how racism is bad. It would immediately say what it need too. It would immediately give the player a reason to hate the enemy in less than 2 seconds.
It is still dumb and irretating. That has nothing to do with ww2
This forced inclusion and diversity just screams "I am inferior". It's self-defeating and insulting.
He could've just said:

I know who Price and Mason are and I only played 2 COD games. I’m in my 40s and play mostly sims and tactical shooters, those were absolutely iconic characters. They’re literally hiring people who don’t play video games.
What is sad about the death by dog is that in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare they actually have animations for when a dog attacks you and kills you. That game came out in 2007...
And you can escape from it too unlike this game where you just die on impact apparently
It’s evolving, just backwards.

And on top of that Vanguard didn’t change this by throwing out what isn’t even their first case of “we have Sniper Wolf at home”.

35:10 This is exactly why in any FPS game with weapon progression (camos, attatchments, etc), you absolutely NEED to have it be a purely points-based system, with no references individual k1lls or headsh0ts. Terms like weapon exp and say "critical hit points" could stand in perfectly, and be scaled based on the game mode, even dynamically for certain seasonal events, to promote new modes, or if the devs notice they were wrong about the real pacing of certain modes (because players will definitely find out and flock to it if they find any notable discrepencies). For example, the same pub-stomping player may get 70-80 elims in a frantic 10v10 mode, where they may only get 15-20 in a plant and defuse mode (even though each individual one was far more difficult and contributed far more to the outcome of the match)... so if any challenges are requiring any specific number of anything, playing plant/defuse modes is just wasting your time if your goal is to unlock things. Vague points systems let players experience more of the game or just do the things they enjoy most, without feeling like they're missing out by not playing the fastest TTK modes.

The fact is, almost all indie games never have these issues, it’s like the old days where you can just pick up a game regardless of cost or validity and enjoy it to your hearts content. It’s not to say all AAA developers are bad, but I wouldn’t mind some being out of business.
Seems like a lot of AAA developers are cheaping out because they know they have a reliable fanbase that will eat garbage up like nothing. It actually hurts me because they have the resources to develop amazing games but choose not to out of pure profit. I can't imagine what Escape from Tarkov would be like with AAA level funding and development.
Well, that's not true tbh. Almost all indie games are trash, so we don't know or hear their names.
As they don't have a budget for advertising, we don't play or even come across hundreds of stupid indie games.
We only hear the good ones, which is pretty few compared to the whole indie sector, and that's why we think indie games are likely to be more successful about innovation in the end.
But we hear almost every AAA, so... it's not accurate to criticize like that IMO.
Cough ACTIVISION cough
you can't just compare them to the 1% of the 1% of the indies that actually reach the mainstream and pretend that somehow if you have very few people working on it then no stupid decisions happen. A smaller scope and creative freedom surely help removing what's unnecessary to create a more focused, catered experience but the "indies are better" wagon is mostly full of ignorance.
All AAA devs not named Nintendo are terrible. Someone made a good video about it the but to save time, game companies nowadays can "update" a game after release, so releasing an unfinished product is ok.

Remember how in WaW how they introduced you to Reznov as Dimitri by escaping death, him teaching you how to snipe, then having the epic fight through the city?
That was the good time when they mimicked good, classic war movies like Enemy at the Gate's Stalingrad scenes. When video games stopped mirroring good ole classic cinema of the 2000s-2010s, they became a bore. Blacks Ops 1 ripped some of their best scenes from classic movies like Deer Hunter. Ah, I think I got it, not only do you need strongly written characters to make it good, we need a damn return to IN GAME CINEMATICS. None of the bs fully rendered cinematic bs. We need a COD where the player is going through the cinematic as we go, where we're not pulled out of the experience. 8:47 The fact a 2009 Call of Duty game did have an animation for when a dog attacks you, is just plainly sad how this game doesn’t even give you one 😂
2007.
Also in the jungle mission with the Japanese, there is no animation when they banzai charge you where you can get out. They just insta kill you. Cod World at war have that animation and it came out in 2008 Lol 😂
@@christianbethel LOL, even sadder
Ww2 and vanguard are an absolute disgrace to WaW
I was about to say that in og modern warfare they had actual animation on the dogs biting off your throat and also had a small QuickTime event to get away from them.
"Approach this game as if it was a movie."
So you basically made a movie instead. Ah yes... nice logic there
They did the same shit with the new Guardians game and people are so into the whole Marvel shit they don't even care.
I'd rather just watch saving private Ryan on repeat than play this shit.
@@adamrogers1233 very well said
What's funny is that it's been done to death by other games. So marketing this as a unique feature or concept just tells me that these devs are naive.
The thing is even movie are getting better they're also making show set on WWII and sometimes their female soldiers but it believable of why their there watch Warsaw 1944, downfall, and others on Amazon and Netflix
But cod wanna be stuck in the 90s with the Pearl harbor approach because big explosion if they're going back to their root everything would be more grounded

Not diverse or woke enough so that doesn't count.

The way they talked about it on that panel is just so bland and boring. That woman clearly had no idea what she was doing and was just talking out of her ass like a college student during presentations.

@@MetalGearBronya oh yes for sure mate. It seemed like they didn’t know what COD was, and what people expect from a COD game. I may get hate for this but MW2019 had a gut wrenching campaign, maybe too much at times but it showed that we hadn’t gotten that in a while, this campaign seemed sterile and almost too clean. Like they didn’t want to offend to cause controversy or stir up a discussion or debate. I remember that one Clean House mission in MW was heavy on me, I was playing that with my dad sitting next to me and I shot the lady with the detonator and he went “did you just shoot her!?!” And we had that reaction so many times. These writers need to look at WaW and how the writing there was impactful, gut wrenching and actually more realistic than what they make in 2021
@@viddykhaos2896 sludgehammer just sucks worse cod dev ever Activision should just drop them from releasing a cod title they wait til the last minute to do updates does the bare minimum

Man I wish this format of reviews comes back
Finally, a game that captures perfectly the true horrors that the german created, flying soldiers, poisonous dogs...
Truly DARK stuff
A game that's not scared to show what really happened in WW2
Nah. No game will never do that kind of thing. Just read history books
and speaking english like it's their native language.....
Yup, surprising they didnt mention that Germans was eating babies to breakfast aswell
The true horror was seeing a female sniper..
No memorable cod characters

Me: Good bye Deactivison-bLizard🦎
My name is VIKTOR REZNOV
RAMIREZ

Makarov: Remember, no rusian
Woods the damn onion
I think she meant iconic characters, but people don't go to COD for that. Yeah, you have memorable ones in the franchise but she wants 1 person people think of when they think of the franchise, someone who's in multiple COD, which explains why they wanna do multiple Vanguards. It's stupid and so out of touch of them.
"Call of Duty has never had any iconic characters."
Ye, let's just ignore Reznov's existence in World at War completely. Even Commissar Viktor Durasov at the beginning of COD Finest Hour had better presentation than this whole "Special" squad.
Makin Atoll, Little more than sand, trees and a small japanese millitary base
We all know why they're called special 😂
Personally, I think it would have been really cool if the campaign went into zombies with "Project Phoenix", showing how the other nations would react to zombies showing up on their front (zombies in the pacific, in Russia, crates of the things being airdropped onto enemy positions in Italy and France) and how the allies would have to battle against both the living and the dead. It would be like Zombie Army Trilogy, just with an international story. With how dead COD has been for the greater part of the last decade, I think Project Phoenix creating a messed up alternate timeline in the campaign would have been this game's saving grace.

Price, Soap, Ghost, Mason, Woods, Nikolai, Sgt Foley, Makarov… to name a few of MANY
It's funny that MW2 characters didn't have these cinematic introductions. You just played the game and the characters just stood out through the storyline themselves. RIP Ghost.
Because MW2 is a masterpiece while this game… is just simply bland
People these days need introductions for everyone because "muh story"
The MW2 campaign had a 90’s action packed story and with action packed levels, with alpha male characters that looked aesthetically badass.
They were socially inept, and didn’t say cringe Superman dialogues. All the spec ops characters were all serious and on that Sigma grindset to complete the missions they were tasked.
Long live Sgt. Foley & cpl.Dunn
It takes less effort and time to create cutscenes with motion capture to immerse the player, than to actually design playable levels. - Activision 2021
I mean this game only had less than 2 years of Development Sledgehammer games and Raven Software were supposed to make a Vietnam based game in 2020 but Treyarch took over that game and made it Black Ops Cold War.Thats why that game didn't run on MW Engine.I mean Vanguard is like COD 3 how COD 3 was made under 6 months.
I'm a True COD player not an Average COD player who plays Warzone and 6v6 MP.
Go watch Tom Hendersons leak on Vanguard now he's completely silent about BF2042.
And Didn't MW and Infinite Warfare have Cinematics like Vanguard?
So Battlefield can be 100/10 on Launch because it is a Battlefield game. But COD cannot be Broken on Launch 0/100 👍👌.It's like as if Battlefield2042 not having a Campaign is a good decision.
@@ChandranPrema123 This is kind of why Call of Duty just needs a massive studio to pump games out every 3 years instead of every year; we might get more Black Ops 3's if it were like that; Black Ops II and III were the peak of the franchise.
Okay so here's how you "approach a game like a movie" and succeed. Make those cool cinematics ,then find every part you can make playable /have happen while we are in control and have the more set up shots be short "we lose control, see the shot then gain control" moments and boom players love it.
@@ChandranPrema123 this game has been in “development” since 2017.

Yeah, you broke the wall holding Joe’s Rage back.
Ghost's death still haunts me to this day - I still see Gaz going down, Soap, the boys from Metal Zero One.....you haven't HAD any iconic characters since these because you're not into making ICONIC games.

I'm an avid campaign player, just as much as I am a multiplayer player. In a lot of COD campaign, I usually play multiple playthroughs, and have a few favorite levels I play over again. I played Vanguard's campaign once, and have no motivation to do another playthrough. There's nothing there, there's no levels that stuck out to me. It really is disappointing.
Remember the end of MW3 when Price and Yuri broke into Makarov’s penthouse and trashed the place in a crazy epic sequence where Price jumps onto a helicopter and crashes it, and you PLAYED THE WHOLE THING?
